디젤엔진의 출력 및 배기가스에 미치는 EGR의 영향 (Effect of EGR on power and exhaust emissions in diesel engine)

  • 디젤 엔진은 출력 및 연료소비율이 우수하여 많이 사용되고 있다. 그러나 디젤엔진은 가솔린엔진에 비하여 배출가스 저감 기술 등에서 아직 해결해야할 문제점들이 많고, 대기오염의 주범이다. 디젤엔진에 있어 배기가스 재순환(EGR; Exhaust Gas Recirculation) 기술은 여러 촉매 기술에 비해 질소산화물(NOx) 배출 저감을 위한 가장 효과적인 기술이며 또한 경제성, 적용 가능성 측면에서도 많은 장점을 갖고 있다. 본 연구에서는 EGR 시스템을 장착한 디젤 엔진을 대상으로 EGR이 디젤기관의 출력 성능 및 배기특성에 미치는 영향을 고찰하였고, 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. EGR율이 증가함에 따라 IHP 및 BHP는 감소하며, 순수EGR에 의한 영향은 엔진회전수에 따라 차이는 있지만, 순수 EGR에 의한 BHP는 저속 운전에서는 약 9%, 고속운전에서는 3.5% 정도 감소하였다. 그리고 NOx는 EGR율이 증가함에 따라 감소하고, 엔진회전수 증가할수록 증가한다. 또한 매연(smoke)은 EGR율이 증가함에 따라서 증가하고, 엔진회전수가 증가할수록 감소한다. EGR율에 따라 NOx와 매연 배출을 동시에 최소로 할 수 있는 최적의 운전 상태가 존재하며, EGR율이 증가할 수록 NOx 및 매연을 위한 최적운전 속도는 증가한다.

  • 가솔린 자동차의 내연기관 배기가스 처리를 위한 촉매로 삼원촉매가 널리 사용되고 있다. 반면 디젤 자동차의 배출 오염 물질 처리를 위해서는 다양한 기술들이 연구개발되고 있다. 디젤 자동차의 특징인 희박연소 조건에서 발생하는 질소산화물의 저감과 제거를 위해 티타니아에 담지된 바나듐 촉매가 상용화되어 있다. 바나듐 촉매를 이용한 질소산화물 저감기술은 암모니아를 환원제로 이용함으로써 대형 디젤 차량에 효과적으로 적용할 수 있다. 최근 활발하게 연구개발이 이루어지고 있는 구리가 이온 교환된 제올라이트 촉매는 초고연비 자동차 개발의 필수 기술로 인식되고 있다. 본 총설에서는 디젤 엔진의 배기가스 중 질소산화물을 효과적으로 제거하기 위한 후처리 기술 중 하나인 암모니아를 이용한 선택적 촉매 환원 반응의 촉매로 사용되는 구리가 이온 교환된 제올라이트 촉매와 관련한 최근 연구개발 동향을 소개하고자 한다.

초음파에너지가 간접분사식 디젤기관 성능에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the Ultrasonic Energy on the IDI Diesel Engine Performance)

  • 본 연구에서는 수송용 경유를 연료로 사용하고 있는 간접분사식 디젤기관에 있어서 연료에 초음파 에너지를 조사하였을 때의 기관성능 및 배출물질 특성 변화에 대해 조사하였다. 실험은 경유에 초음파 에너지를 조사한 연료와 상용 경유를 간접분사식 디젤기관에 적용하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 본 운전조건하에서, 초음파 에너지를 조사한 경유로 디젤기관을 운전하였을 경우,상용 경유 운전 시에 비해 지압선도, 열발생율 및 출력이 상승하고 질량연소율이 단축되었으며 제동연료소비율과 매연은 감소하였다. 또한, 보다 안정화되면서 완전한 연소가 이루어졌으며 질소산화물은 증가하였다.

직분식 디젤기관의 메탄올 흡기분사에 의한 기관성능과 배기배출물에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Engine Performance and Exhaust Emission with Intake Port Methanol Injection in a DI Diesel Engine)

  • In order to investigate the effectiveness of methanol, which has high latent heat of evaporation and oxygen contents, for DI diesel engine performance and exhaust emission, the methanol was injected at the suction port of DI diesel engine. The injector used for test was conventional gasoline engine injector and controlled the quantity of methanol per cycle by the power supply controller which designed specially for injector. The results shown that the maximum pressure point was delayed, the value of maximum pressure was decreased, and the concentrations of both NOx and Soot were decreased, as the methanol injection quantity increased, and also the thermal efficiency of engine injected methanol under the high load condition was similar to no methanol injection but under the medium load condition was decreased within the experimental conditions.

  • The effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) on the characteristics of NOx emissions and specific fuel consumption rate have been investigated using an eight-cylinder. four cycle. direct injection diesel engine operating at several loads and speeds. The theoretical NO formation concentration is calculated with the equivalence ratio as a parameter of flame temperature to study the effect of EGR on NOx emissions in the diesel combustion. The experiments in this study are conducted on the fixed fuel injection timing of $38^{\circ}$ BTDC regardless of experimental conditions. It is found that the specific fuel consumption rate is slightly increased with EGR rate. and NOx emissions are markedly reduced owing to the drop of the incoming oxygen concentratio and the increase of equivalence ratio as the EGR rate increases.

  • Engine cycle simulation using a two-zone model was performed to investigate the effect of the engine parameters on NO and soot emissions in a DI diesel engine. The present model was validated against measurements in terms of cylinder pressure, BMEP, NO emission data with a 2902cc turbocharger/intercooler DI diesel engine. Calculations were made for a wide range of the engine parameters, such as injection timing, ignition delay, Intake air pressure, inlet air temperature, compression ratio, EGR. This parametric study indicated that NO and soot emissions were effectively decreased by increasing intake air pressure, decreasing inlet air temperature and increasing compression ratio. By retarding injection timing, increasing ignition delay and applying EGR. NO emission was effectively reduced, but the soot emission was increased.

  • Environmental protection on the ocean has been interested and nowadays the International Maritime Organization(IMO) has advanced on the prevention of air pollution from ships. This study presents the performance and the emission characteristics of 4 stroke marine diesel engines for generation application in D2 cycle(IMO mode). The effects of important operating parameters, such as intake air pressure. intake air temperature and maximum combustion pressure on NOx emissions were also described. Emissions measurement and calculation are processed according to IMO Technical Code. The results show that the maximum combustion pressure by fuel injection timing control and intake air temperature has strong influence on NOx emission production. But NOx emission is not affected by intake air pressure and exhaust gas back pressure.

  • Recently, the world is faced with very serious problems related to the air pollution due to the exhaust emissions of the diesel engine. So, many of researchers have studied to reduce the exhaust emissions of diesel engine. This study was investigated for various exhaust emissions according to operating conditions in a turbocharged D.I. diesel engine. As a result of experiments in a test engine, the $CO_2\;and\;NO_x$ increased with increasing load, the $CO_2$ and CO decreased with increasing charge air pressure in manifold, the CO decreased with increasing cooling fresh water temperature, and the $NO_x$ decreased with worming cooling fresh water before engine start.

  • The direct injection diesel engine is one of the most efficient thermal engines. For this reason DI diesel engines are widely used for heavy-duty applications. But the world is faced with very serious problems related to the air pollution due to the exhaust emissions of diesel engine. So, that is air pollution related to exhaust gas resulted from explosive combustion should be improved. Exhaust Gas Recirculation(EGR) is a proven method to reduce NOx emissions. In this study, the experiments-were performed at various engine loads while the EGR rates were set from 0% to 20%. The emissions trade-off and combustion of diesel engine are investigated. Hot and cooled EGR are achieved without cooling and with cooling respectively. It was found that the exhaust emissions with the EGR system resulted in a very large reduction in oxides of nitrogen at the expense of higher smoke emissions. Also, the reduction rates of NOx emissions for hot and cooled EGR are similar at load 20%.

  • In this study, a cycle simulation using a two-zone model is carried out to investigate the effect of intake charging conditions such as oxygen concentration, temperature and pressure on NO emissions in a DI diesel engine. The model is validated against measurements in terms of cylinder pressure, torque, BSFC and NOx emissions with 2902 cc DI diesel engine. Calculated results can be summarized as follows. The oxygen concentration in the intake charge is decreased with increasing of EGR rate and equivalence ratio. As the intake oxygen concentration is reduced, the combustion pressure and the burned gas temperature decrease and, as a result, NO formation decreases. Also, the results show that as the intake pressure increases and the intake temperature decreases, NO emissions are effectively reduced.
