A Study on an Analysis of Core Information Literacy Competencies for Information Literacy Instruction of Undergraduate Students in Design Discipline (디자인분야 대학생의 정보문해 교육을 위한 핵심 정보문해능력 분석에 관한 연구)

  • Design discipline requires more specialized and sophisticated information literacy competencies necessary to effectively find and apply the information that students need for their teaming and the future independent designer than are outlined in general information literacy competencies. Therefore, The goals of this study is to identify specific information literacy competencies within the Design Discipline. This research analyzed design-specific core information literacy competencies through the literature analysis on the design goals & curriculum of four domestic universities and the NASAD standards & guidelines and verified those by Delphi Survey. The result showed that design discipline requires commonly 26 specific core competencies in seven broad categories and the these competencies are related to the time for information literacy Instruction. Also, The result analyzed that such majors in design as product design, visual design, need additionally more specialized and detailed competencies with specific focus and that design discipline requires commonly the information literacy competencies about general studies & fundamental ability.

  • This study aims to suggest a development process for the interior design major course at K University's school of design to educate specialists who can answer the needs of the industrial field. The study procedure first analyzed the internal and external environment to establish queries and development direction. A job model for the interior design industry was constructed while course modules were deducted based on job characteristics and was used to form a curriculum based on a 4 year course. Required personnel includes 'Interior Design Business and Marketing Specialists', 'Interior Design Space Planning Specialists' and 'Interior Design Construction Management Specialists'. 40 modules were drawn following the detailed job model structure. 1st year students are to follow a common curriculum, 2nd years the major foundation, 3rd years major intensive, and the 4th years major application. The practical importance of the research is to suggest a development process of major modules based on the standard job model and the organization structure of the interior design industry.

  • 멀티미디어 디자인 분야는 21세기 국가경제력을 주도해 나갈 미래 산업분야로 최근 컴퓨터 기술의 발달과 함께 사회전반에 걸쳐 그 중요성을 인정받기 시작했다. 그러나 현실적으로 엄밀한 의미에서 멀티미디어 디자인이란 아직 학문적 정의조차 명확히 내려지지 않고 있으며, 또한 연구내용과 방법 등이 체계화되지 않은 초기 상태에 머물고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 시각디자인, 컴퓨터 과학, 인간공학을 기본 축으로 하는 새로운 멀티미디어 디자인 교육과정을 제시하고 그 성과물을 예로써 전시해 보고자 한다.

A Study on the Direction of Cultural Goods Design Education in korea (우리나라 문화상품디자인 교육의 방향에 관한 연구)

  • As cultural goods have been taken notice of as an area that may contribute to the creation of national profits, there have been attempts to construct infrastructure for the area. Contrary to the trend, however, design education has not performed in-depth researches and studies on the professionalism and characteristic of subjects. Resultantly it has hardly prepared systematic educational curricula and contents. In this situation the present study purposes to set the right direction of design education and to draw the outline of systematic educational contents for cultural goods design. For this purpose, it defines the scope of cultural goods design based on the concept and contents of cultural goods design, examines the functions, the roles and the conditions of cultural goods designers, and based on them, propose the direction of cultural goods design education as the ground of detailed methods of teaching cultural goods design.

  • In this study, convergence art education which Based on the overall understanding of color, which is a field of science, the lecture model was constructed in order to operate a fusion curriculum which can be practically expressed by applying it to the artistic field of floral design. The learner was satisfied with the composition of the two lectures (floral design, color) and the way of conducting theory and practice. In addition, they felt that was able to access various areas through one subject. This indicates that learners themselves perceive the purpose and necessity of this study. On the other hand, it is pointed out that the background knowledge level between the majors and the non - majors is different. therefore Continuous feedback and adjustment of the degree of difficulty of the training seems to be necessary to enhance the learner's understanding. In order to develop the floral design, the curriculum development and education model should be built through convergence of various sciences. It is expected that this study will be used as basic data for the development of the curriculum for the artistic design education.

  • Along with the development of the video-film related industry, the need for establishing the education of the video image design is now rapidly growing in a variety of video art institutes. The video image design IS therefore being more classified and systematized than ever to maxImize its effectivity and facilitate its creativity. This paper is thus aimed to suggest the basic curriculum and project class schedule on the video image design which can be utilized in class activities.

  • In 21st century, with the rapid development of Information technologies, a new form of postgraduate courses on multimedia has emerged. The curriculum of that course is consisted of a combination of design related fields and computer science. In this thesis, I analyzed problems of design education come from multimedia departments of 2-year colleges. This form of departments result in the reduction of design related courses and that is also reduction of basic design rather than multimedia. But, for the desirable multimedia design education, the functional aspects of multimedia must be harmonized with the artistic aspects. For these reason, I developed a course of study on multimedia design. It consists of theoretical studies about design principles, actual training on flash application, and individual projects accomplishments. And on the basis of this results, case studies of 3 subjects were done in a semester.

  • This study was intended to analyze the present condition and problems of education by examining the curriculum of departments relating to IT design in community colleges in the environment of IT that more rapidly grew than any other sector due to the development of information and communication and smart device, focusing on the actual condition. And it was intended to present a scheme for the improvement of IT design curriculum in community colleges in preparation for the surveyed industry demand in IT sector. First of all, this study attempted to check how IT designers' work changed according to the change of technology in industrial scene through a survey of job in IT industry and an analysis of IT industry trends. As a result, it was shown that the work of IT designers who had carried out web design work extended to mobile design, and school education also required mobile education according to the change of the times. Here, through task analysis, it was possible to find that web design and mobile design was not fundamentally entirely different, but was within the range where it was perfectly possible to carry out mobile design work if mobile environment and condition was understood and an education was given together with the existing curriculum.

  • Nowadays, novel and innovative technology including 3D printers, internet of things (IoT), and wearable devices are rapidly emerging. As we must constantly keep up with the most recent trends, words like convergence, multidisciplinarity, and design revolution indeed define society today. Due to the expansion of such diverse technological, industrial, and academic convergence trends, the role of design is becoming evermore essential in development of products as well as creative services. Even the government is pushing towards a 'creative economy' by encouraging ICT convergence to create novel industries as well as advanced jobs. In order to adapt flexibly to such changes in global trends, a solid academic curriculum centered around 'ICT+Design' must be developed. In the current research, we analyzed various literature and benchmarked the major universities both domestic and foreign. Also we utilized a survey-based approach against subjects who are experts or design specialists working in environments related to industry and research. In our proposed integrated ICT+Design educational curriculum, students familiarize themselves with design perspectives and methodology to creatively carry out the course. Moreover, experts from design and ICT came together in an act of 'Radical Collaboration' in which they shared their unique 'Design Thinking' in order to promote understanding and cooperation. Furthermore, industry experts have also taken part as mentors in order to create a workplace-oriented course with various integrated projects. Most importantly, the course was designed so that in addition to research, students can really get hands-on with their ideas in the creativity-integrated workplace.
