  • An "equivalent homogeneous, orthotropic" model that includes edge effects and an accompanying finite element analysis is presented for elastomeric bearings. The model is developed for two-dimensional configurations with horizontal layers, and for linear, elastic, small deformation conditions. The equivalent homogeneous theory, in addition to capturing the overall response characteristics of the layered elastomeric bearing system, approximately models the important edge effects, which occur at and near boundaries that cut the layers, and the stress concentrations at layer interfaces. The primary dependent variables for the theory have been selected such that the highest derivatives appearing in the strain energy function are first-order, thus requiring only $C_0$ continuity of the finite element approximations. As a result, the finite element analysis is simple and computationally efficient. Numerical examples are presented to verify the theory and to illustrate potential applications of the analysis.

Feeding Habits of Juvenile TakifugU niphobles in the Eelgrass (Zostera marina) bed in Kwangyang Bay (광양만 잘피밭에 서식하는 복섬 (Takifug niphobles) 유어의 식성)

  • Feeding habits of juvenile Takifug niphobles collected from the eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay were studied. T. niphobles (2$\~$8 cm SL) was a carnivore which consumed mainly amphipods (gammarid and caprellid amphipods), crabs, shrimps and gastropods. Its diets included minor quantities of polychaetes, copepods, tanaids and isopods. T. niphobles showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. Small individuals preyed mainly on gammarid amphipods, caprellid amphipods and gastropods. However, crabs and shrimps were heavily selected with increasing fish size.

  • The growth of GaN on the patterned substances has proven favorable to achieve thick, crack-free GaN layers. In this paper, numerical modeling of transport and reaction of species is performed to estimate the growth rate of GaN from tile reaction of TMG(trimethly-gallium) and ammonia. GaN growth rate was estimated through the model analysis including the effect of species velocity, thermal convection and chemical reaction, and thermal condition for the uniform deposition was to be presented. The effect of shape and construction of microscopic pattern was also investigated using a simulator to perform surface analysis, and a review was done on the quantitative thickness and shape in making GaN layer on the pattern. Quantitative analysis was especially performed about the shape of reactor geometry, periodicity of pattern and flow conditions which decisively affect the quality of crystal growth. It was found that the conformal deposition could be obtained with the inclination of trench ${\Theta}>125^{\circ}$. The aspect ratio was sensitive to the void formation inside trench and the void located deep in trench with increased aspect ratio.

  • In this study, we utilized various type of GPS observation measurements to get a camera projection center of the aerial triangulation and consequently to determine which type is acceptable. For the accuracy and the error analysis, comparison between a projection center from the conventional model adjustment and the result determined by the kinematic DGPS positioning which is fitted to the conventional model adjustment using 3D conformal transformation method has been made. The camera projection center is located within a $\pm{2m}$ for C/A code range measurements, $\pm{14cm}$ for L1 phase measurements and $\pm{10cm}$ for L1/L2 phase measurements with $1\sigma$. In this way, the accuracy of the camera projection center by the bundle block adjustment can be predicted.

  • Feeding habits of Pholis nebulosa collected from a eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay from January 1994 to December 1994 were studied. Pholis nebulosa was a carnivore which mainly consumed epiphytal amphipods. Its diets included minor quantities of caridean shrimps, isopods, copepods, tanaids and polychaetes. It showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. In an initial feeding stage, copepods were major food organisms. However, gammarid and caprellid amphipods were heavily selected with increasing fish size. Although gammarid and caprellid amphipods were major prey organisms for all seasons, the relative proportion of these two food items changed with season.

  • Wegmann's method has been known as the most efficient one for the Theodorsen equation that is needed to solve conformal mapping. It was researched in the earlier studies (1). However divergence was revealed in some difficult problems by numerical experiment using Wegmann's method. We analyzed the cause of divergence and proposed an improved method by applying a low frequency pass filter to Wegmann's method. Numerical experiments using the improved method showed convergence for all divergent problems using the Wegmann's method. In this paper, we prove theroretically the cause of convergence in the Numerical experiment using the improved method by applying a low frequency pass filter to Wegmann's method. We make use of Fourier transforms in this theoretical proof of convergence.

  • This work is a general treatment of added mass calculation of two-dimensional cylinders with straight-framed sections and chines oscillating in the free surface of an ideal fluid with high frequencies. Two and three parameter families in vertical oscillations are treated by employing Schwarz-Christoffel transformation. The results are presented with regards to geometrical parameters such as chine engles, sectional area coefficient and beam draft ratio.

  • To grasp the characteristics of hydrodynamic pressure distribution on the hull surface of the chine-type ship in vertical vibration of high frequency the hydrodynamic pressure on the surface of two dimensional cylinders of the curvilinear-element section with chines is investigated in comparison with those of the rectangular section, of the circular section, of the elliptical section, of the triangular section, and of the Lewis form of hypotrocoidal character. The results on the chine-type show markably different characteristics in the pressure distribution from the others.

  • Feeding habits of Pagrus major collected in the coastal waters off Busan from January to December 2004 were studied. P. major ranged form 8.5 to 44.6 cm in standard length. P. major was a carnivore which consumed mainly hermit crabs, amphipods, crabs, shrimps, polychaetes, echinoderms, and fishes. Its diets included small quantities of gastropods, bivalves, stomatopods, cephalopods, cnidarians, and isopods. It showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. Small individuals (8~15 cm SL) preyed mainly on shrimps. However, individuals from 15 cm to 25 cm SL preyed mainly on hermit crabs and polychaetes. Individuals over 25 cm SL preyed mainly on fishes and echinoderms.

  • The MCS(Micro-coplanar strip) line has been analyzed. The conformal mapping method is used to calculate the quasi-static effective permittivity and characteristic impedance of this MCS line. The computed results of the present work are found to be in good agreement when compared with the results obtained using commercial S/W, IE3D. And in this paper, the stepped-impedance low pass microstrip filter is designed and fabricated with MCS lines for improving the frequency responses. The LPF proposed structure has been also designed and implemented to have the sharp attenuation characteristics in stop band. The agreement between simulation and measurement results verify the implemented LPF.
