  • This study investigated up-styling techniques as related to wedding dress image. To find up-styles that fit well with a wedding dress, a questionnaire survey was conducted targeting hairdressers in the beauty industry, and new styles were created and suggested based on the survey results. For this, hair was slicked back without parting and combed upward. Then, using braiding techniques needed to produce a top point, styles were created to create attractive images. For up-styles that go with an elegant wedding dress, hair was parted in a ratio of 3 : 7. In addition, a roll technique was applied based on natural points by keeping the ears half-covered to create elegance. For up-styles that are perfect for a classic wedding dress, hair was parted in a ratio of 2 : 8, keeping the ears half-covered. Based on the back point, a twisting technique was applied to create classic images. It is anticipated that the study results would provide basic data needed for creating and understanding up-styles that go with various wedding dress images and make a contribution to their development.

  • The objectives of this study are to select and analyze unpublished wedding dresses in the 19th century, to investigate the design characteristics and making techniques of Victorian wedding dresses, and to examine the correlation between the wedding dress style and the fashion style in those days and the influence of the wedding dress style on contemporary's styles. The materials of this study were 9 wedding dresses owned by the Historical Costume and Textile Collection at the University of Connecticut in USA. The dresses were made during the mid and late Victorian Age. As for silhouette, the bustle style was popular in the 1870s and 1880s, and the hourglass style in the 1890s, and different from contemporary dresses there were no big differences in structural pattern and details between ordinary dresses and wedding dresses. In addition, colored wedding dresses were used until the mid and late Victorian Age, but since the wedding ceremony of Queen Victoria in 1840, white wedding dress was widely accepted and settled as the tradition of today's wedding dresses. While the Western dress style had been basically a one piece style, there appeared simple two piece designs in which the upper garment was separated from the lower one, from the mid Victorian Age. This is considered the reflection of those days' pragmatic social trend in dress style. It seems around 1875 when asymmetric design was first introduced in the Western dress style, which had been mostly symmetric. The asymmetric style that pursued atypical beauty, though not common during the late Victorian Age, shows a change in the typical Western dress style. With regard to dress making techniques, sewing machines were distributed widely during the early Victorian Age but they were not used in all parts of dress. Most of details and trimming works were done manually and some parts were attached and detached by hand sewing. In addition, not like today, there were no generalized rules of making such as the form of closings and composition.

  • Young people have got to like 'party' and 'attending parties' is considered 'reflection of trendy lifestyle' nowadays. The more party experiences they have, the more party wear styles get various and detail. They want different styles for the next party and it stimulates designers to create something new. We now realize that the party has become popular with an increased market demand for party wear. In addition, we analyze dress styles according to party types to suggest a new dress style to satisfy consumer needs. We suggest two ways to research party wear industry conditions in Korea. Off-line shop managers need to offer practical and various designs for a good price according to party types that make distinctions between on-line and off-line shops. On-line shop managers need to use better materials and develop better service. Considering an analysis of dress style according to party types, an elegant style is good for a formal dinner party and an evening party. A romantic style is good for a season party (such as a New Year's party, a Valentines party and a Christmas party) and a chic style is good for a music party (such as a classic party, jazz party and pop-era party). In addition, the result of a dress style analysis according to party types can be used for the tip for the development of designs to come in the party wear market as well as for a dress style guide to the partiers.

Domestic women celebrities attending Seoul Fashion Week build their image as a fashion leader by exposing their own fashion aesthetics to the public. This promotes PR and sales of the brand of fashion designers in the collection. This study considers the fashion trends of women celebrities by analyzing the fashion style of women celebrities in Seoul Collection over the recent five years. The results of this study on contents analysis are as follows. First, straight silhouettes, achromatic colors, and an absence of a pattern or decoration comprised a high proportion. Celebrities preferred a modern and minimal style. Second, they preferred a feminine style that shows traditional feminine beauty through slim and princess silhouettes, one-piece dress or skirts, soft materials, and decorations with ruffles. In addition, as a matching jacket on one-piece dresses also appeared, it showed that celebrities attempted to change the chic feminine style with masculine beauty. Third, boxy silhouettes, multi-color mixed with colorful colors, graphic or lettering patterns, glittering materials and lots of details comprised a high proportion.
