Numerical modules based on a conventional thermo-hydrological numerical model, TOUGH2, are developed to provide a numerical modeling technique for a standing column well (SCW). Cooling and heating operations for two different types of SCW are then simulated using these modules. Modeling showed these operations to be significantly influenced by heat exchange and fluid mixing between the SCW and the adjacent geologic formation and groundwater. The results also reveal that heat exchange between the oppositely flowing outflow and inflow in the PVC or PE pipe and the SCW borehole is an important factor. Overall, the numerical modeling technique developed here can reasonably simulate fluid flow and heat transport phenomena in the complex internal structures of a SCW. The proposed technique can be used practically for the quantitative analysis of heat exchange in a SCW at the design, construction, and operation stages.

In this study, a digital particle holographic system and its application to channel-flow measurements were investigated. A double-exposure hologram recording system that is capable of recording digital holograms in a short time interval was developed. A correlation coefficient method was used to determine the focal plane of particles. The Wiener filter was used to remove noises and improve image quality. Two-threshold and image segmentation methods were used for binary image transformation. The cross-correlation method was used for particle pairing. The developed system was employed to study channel flow fields, and the axial velocities of channel flow were measured. The measurement errors are acceptable, and this proves the feasibility of using the digital particle holographic system as a good tool for flow-field measurements.

Spray angle of dual swirl injector is established according to the velocity ratio at orifice exit. Due to the internal mixing at recess and lack of correlation for the combined two fluid injection, prediction of spray angle is very difficult. This study deal with experimental work and numerical simulation on spray angle with different recess length. Among the multiphase flow models, the VOF model was selected to simulate the spray angle. Feasibility of numerical analysis are confirmed by comparing the results with the experimental data, and the effect of recess on spray angle are analyzed for single and combined spray case.
The fission gas release model used In the SPEAR-BETA fuel performance code was modified by use of effective thermal conductivity for cracked fuel and by laking Into account axial fission-gas mixing between the fuel-clad gap and the plenum. With use of this modified model the fission gas release was analyzed under various power ramping conditions of P$_{max}$ and $\Delta$.fP. Effective fuel thermal conductivity that accounts for the effect of fuel tracking was used in calculation of the fuel temperature distribution and the Internal gas pressure under power ramping conditions. Mixing and dilution effects due to axial gas flow were also considered in computing the width and the thermal conductivity of the gap. The effect of axial gas flow w3s solved by the Crank-Nicholson method. The finite difference method was used to save running time in the calculation. The present modified fission-gas release model was validated by comparing its predicted results with experimental data from various lamping tests In the literature and calculated results with use of the models used In the SPEAR-BETA and FEMAXI-IV codes. Results obtained with use of the present modified model showed better agreement with experimental data reported in the literature than those results with use of the latter codes. The fuel centerline temperature calculated with introduction of effective thermal conductivity for centerline temperature calculated with Introduction of effective thermal conductivity for cracked fuel was 200 higher fission gas release predicted with use of the modified model was nearly 6% larger on the average than that calculated by use of the unmodified model used in the SPEAR-BETA code.e SPEAR-BETA code.e.
This numerical study aims at analyzing the effect of flow characteristics, caused by geometrical features such as intersecting angles, on solute mixing at fracture junctions. It showed that not only Pe, the ratio of advection to diffusion, but also the intersecting angles played an important role in solute mixing at the junction. For the intersection angles less than 90°, the fluid flowed to the outlet in the same direction as the injected flow direction, which increased the contact at the junction with the streamlines coming from the different inlets. On the other hand, for the intersecting angles greater than 90°, the fluid flowed out to the outlet opposite to the flow direction in the inlet, leading to minimizing the contact at the junction. Therefore, in the former case, solute mixing occurred even at high Pe, and in the latter case, solutes transport along the streamlines even at low Pe. For Pe < 1, the complete mixing model was known to occur, but for the intersecting angle greater than 150°, no complete solute mixing occurred. Overall, the transition from the complete mixing model to the streamline-routing model occurred for Pe = 0.1 - 100, but it highly depended on the intersecting angles. Specifically, the transition occurred at Pe = 0.1 - 10 for intersecting angles ≧ 150° and at Pe = 10 - 100 for intersecting angles ≦ 30°. For Pe > 100, the streamline-routing model was dominant regardless of intersecting angles. For Pe > 1,000, the complete streamline-routing model appeared only for the intersecting angles greater than 150°. For the intersecting angles less than 150°, the streamline-routing model dominated over the complete solute mixing, but solute mixing still occurred at the fracture junction.
This study was conducted to investigate the situation of ICT apply to plastic greenhouse, and the results be apply to design of new one. A CFD analysis were conducted to monitering the ventilation and energy saving of the single span greenhouse newly designed. The causes of delay to apply ICT to plastic greenhouse are the high cost for installation(24%), insufficiency of after services(19%), often disorder(16%), unskillful management of soft ware(15%), insufficient ICT efficiency(13%) and unsatisfying of income increase(12%). The parts of problem occurred in ICT plastic greenhouse are the structure, actuator, environmental control system and sensor(approximate 14%, respectively), remote control technique(13%), plant management technique(12%), energy saving technique(10%) and utilization of software(8%). In the condition of lateral window closed, the average wind speed changed to slow, but it was faster in the condition of leeward side window opened than in the condition of lee and winward side window opened. The air movement in the condition of lateral window closed occur by air moving fan not by out air. It is not affect the room temperature but effective the uniformity of room temperature. The average temperature of low height greenhouse was uniform than high height one. The average temperature in condition of 3rd curtain opened become same with outside temperature after 2 hours, but take more 5 hours in condition of 3rd curtain closed.
A modified model was developed for solute transport in porous media that can consider the movement of an LNAPL above the water table. From the results of sensitivity analyses with and without considering LNAPL movement, there are some differences according to the hydraulic gradient, the quantity of oil leakage and dispersivity. The mean deviation between the model in this study and a conventional model without LNAPL movement increases as the hydraulic gradient decreases and the quantity of oil leakage increases. Variation of dispersivity has no influence on the magnitude of the mean deviation. However, the spatial distribution of the deviation between the two models is wider as dispersivity increases. Furthermore, groundwater is at high risk of contamination in the vertical direction in the case that transverse dispersion value is large. A conventional model underestimates the concentration of solute in an aquifer where the movement of an LNAPL cannot be negligible: Based on the study results, it is important to understand how fast the LNAPL moves on the water table for realistic prediction of solute transport in an aquifer with the movable LNAPL on the water table.

Both numerical analysis and cold tests for the swirl coaxial type injector were performed to obtain the influence of spray angle, velocity ratio and liquid film thickness for pressure drop and recess. The basic experimental and numerical data obtained in this study can be applicable to the performance design of swirl coaxial type injector. Spray angle was not affected by the applied test pressure drop, but spray angle was affected by tangential velocity ratio and shape factors. Feasibility of numerical analysis for the liquid film thickness and spray angle was confirmed, and the change of liquid film thickness by tangential velocity ratio affected more seriously than pressure drop, and liquid film thickness was decreased with increasing tangential velocity ratio.
The paper proposes alternatives for fire safety in architectural planning through heat-smoke distribution related to openings so that we decrease casualty and property loss by fire and lay a great emphasis on building high-rise apartments with consideration of fire safety in Korea. An analysis program(HFA-Heat Fluid Analysis) is built to perform simultaneously numerical analysis and experimental analysis on rooms, units and buildings. In consequence, on the first, fire prevention methods are required to be set up related to openings for design rooms since the flow of heat and smoke is influenced by the type of openings in high-rise apartments. Second, the numerical analysis showed that different planning types cause to show differences in the spreading time of heat and smoke to design the units of high-rise apartments. On the third, each unit building showed different fire behavior depending on openings by numerical analysis and small scaled experiment on heat and smoke flow.

A two color PIV technique has been developed for visualization of complex and high speed flow in a ramjet combustor. Two color PIV has the advantages that velocity distribytions in high speed flowfields can be measured simply by varying the time interval between two different laser beams and a directional ambiguity problem can be solved by color separation, and then a singnal-to-noise ratio can be increased through nearly perfect cross-correlation. As a basic research of the ramjet engine, a 2-D shaped combustor with two symmetric air intakes has been manufactured and an experimental study has been conducted using a two color PIV technique. The flow characteristics such as recirculation zones and two intake air mixing have been investigated varying inlet angles and dome heights. It is found that the size and air mass ratio of reciculation zones are affected mainly by an inlet angle, but not much by a dome height.
