  • This study investigates the characteristic properties of strength, flowability, durability and drying shrinkage to control strength and to reduce heat of hydration of high performance concrete using crushed stone fines. According to the experimental results, when crushed stone fines are increased every 10%, $10{\sim}15%$ of compressive strength is decreased and flowability of high performance concrete is effectively improved due to the decrease of modulus of deformation and confined water ratio. When crushed stone fines are replaced every 10%, $4^{\circ}C$ of the highest adiabatic temperature rise is decreased by reducing the unit cement. However, 5% of drying shrinkage is increased in the same condition In the meantime, durability of high performance concrete is excellent, having over 100% of good relative dynamic modulus of elasticity due to fineness of formation mused by the increase of the unit powder content and the improvement of flowability, without regard to the replacement of crushed stone fines. Therefore, It can be said that the usage of crushed stone fines can control the strength of high performance concrete by replacement and reduce heat of hydration.

  • Hydration and physical characteristics of chemically-bonded phosphate ceramic (CBPC) binder based on dead-burned Mg-O with six different blends are investigated for efficient repair construction material by retarding set phase with $H_3BO_3$. The test specimen of the blender with silica fume shows higher compressive strength after 75 days. The CBPC with silica fume results in higher modulus of rupture that others. The test specimens of CBPC eludes lower calcium ion than that of OPC (Ordinay Portland Cement). The X-ray diffraction pattern shows that hydration results in the formation of magnesium hydroxide, M-S-H gel and $MgCO_3$ for the specimen with silica fumes. Combination with calcium for MgO is not desirable due to no formation of chemical bond between two components. Based on the experimental program, the mixture of MgO and silica fume shows efficient performance in strength and durability.

  • The properties of recycled fine aggregates which had different source concrete were examined by mortar test. With higher strength of source concrete, specific gravity of recycled fine aggregate was higher and absorption of recycled fine aggregate was lower due to reduction of the volume of adhered cement paste. The compressive strength and flexible strength of mortar with recycled fine aggregate were affected by the interface boundary of new mortar and the strength of adhered mortar. Strength development of mortar with recycled fine aggregate reduced because recycled fine aggregate become a porous material with the smaller strength of source concrete. The drying shrinkage of mortar was about$800{\sim}2000{\mu}m/m$. It was about 1.5 times than that of mortar with natural fine aggregate. Relative dynamic modulus of elasticity was a similar level with that of mortar with natural fine aggregate.

  • This study is to analyze effect of exposure environment and mode of ASR on the engineering properties of synthetic lightweight aggregate concrete, such as dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity. The results of this study are summarized as foflows ; 1. The expansion rate of each exposure environment in 380$^{\circ}$C and NaCI 4% solution was shown higher than in 20$^{\circ}$C and normal water. The expansion rate of each exposure mode was largely shown in order of fjill immersion, wetting/drying, half immersion. 2. The dynamic modulus of elasticty and ultrasonic pulse velocity of each exposure environment in 38$^{\circ}$C and NaCl 4% solution was shown less than in 20$^{\circ}$C and normal water. The dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity of each exposure mode was shown smaller in order of full immersion, wetting/drying, half imersion.3. The relation between dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity was highly significant. The dynamic modulus of elasticity was increased with increase of ultrasonic pulse velocity. The decreasing rate of the dynamic modulus of elasticity was shown 2.1~3.4 times higher than the ultrasonic pulse velocity at each age, exposure environment and mode, respectively. 4. The expansion of each exposure environment and mode was increased with increase of curing age. The dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity of those concrete was increased with increase of curing age. At the curing age 28 days, the highest properties was showed at each type concrete, it was gradually decreased with increase of curing age. Specially, at the curing age 98 days of full immersion, the rate of expansion of type D was shown 3.95 times higher than the type A. But the dynamic modulus of elasticity and ultrasonic pulse velocity was decreased 17% and 8.3%.

  • PURPOSES: The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between the FWD back-calculated modulus and dynamic modulus of asphalt layers for existing asphalt pavements. METHODS: To evaluate the dynamic modulus of the asphalt mixture in the existing and new asphalt layers, the uniaxial direct tension test was conducted on small asphalt specimens obtained from the existing asphalt-covered pavements. A dynamic modulus master curve was estimated by using the uniaxial direct tension test for each asphalt layer. The falling weight deflectometer (FWD) testing was conducted on the test sections, and the modulus values of pavement layers were back-calculated using the genetic algorithm and the finite element method based back-calculation program. The relationship between measured and back-calculated asphalt layer moduli was examined in this study. The normalized dynamic modulus was adopted to predict the stiffness characteristics of asphalt layers more accurately. RESULTS: From this study, we can conclude that there is no close relationship between dynamic modulus of first layer and back-calculated asphalt modulus. The dynamic moduli of second and third asphalt layers have some relation with asphalt stiffness. Test results also showed that the normalized dynamic modulus of the asphalt mixture is closely related to the FWD back-calculated modulus with 0.73 of R square value. CONCLUSIONS: The back-calculated modulus of asphalt layer can be used as an indicator of the stiffness characteristics of asphalt layers in the asphalt-covered pavements.

  • The pavement performance model is the most important factor to determine the pavement life in the mechanistic-empirical pavement design guide (MEPDG). As part of Korean Pavement Research Program (KPRP), the Korean Pavement Design Guide (KPDG) is currently being developed based on mechanistic-empirical principle. In this paper, the rutting prediction model of asphalt mixtures, one of the pavement performance model, has been developed using triaxial repeated loading testing data. This test was conducted on various types of asphalt mixtures for investigating the rutting characteristics by varying with the temperature and air void. The calibration process was made for the coefficients of rutting prediction model using the accelerated pavement testing data. The accuracy of prediction model can be increased when by considering the effect of individual rutting properties of materials rather than shear stresses with depths.

  • It has been known that acetylation improves the dimensional stability of wood. Liquid phase acetylation is more popular than gas-phase acetylation for the effectiveness of weight gain of wood. In this study domestic red and Korean pine specimens were liquid phase acetylated and their physical properties, such as density, bending strength, dimensional stability etc., were investigated. Acetylation increased the average weights of red and Korean pine specimens by 10.4% and 9.2%, respectively, and their average oven-dry densities were increased by 6.9% and 4.6%, respectively. Acetylation did not influence on modulus of rupture (MOR), modulus of elasticity (MOE) and dynamic MOE (DMOE). The average percentage reduction in hygroscopicity (PRH) of red and Korean pine specimens were respectively 20.6% and 13.8%, while the average percentage reduction in water soaking (PRW) were respectively 20.0% and 8.5%. Thus it can be concluded that the liquid acetylation improved the dimensional stability of red pine specimens more than that of Korean pine specimens.

  • Integral fire shutters are installed indiscriminately, regardless of evacuation. There is always the risk of an accident because integral shutters are applied mainly to corridors, passages, and stairs of schools This study evaluated the problem of integral shutter's entrance, evacuation, construction management, and maintenance control through a fire shutter accident case, including present condition of fire shutter installed at school of Okgil, Bucheon and Dongtan, Hwaseong. The results suggest that emergency lighting or signs for passage be set up to check location of entrance easily and install obstruction sensors at fire shutter to reduce life damage. In addition, the number of efficiency tests of fire shutters should be increased by running a trial test monthly or weekly to maintain the performance of fire shutter. Schools need to install a fire shutter- applied sprinkler at the entire floor.

  • Domestic area of most be happened chloride deicer damage. Because daily mean temperature is below 0$^{\circ}C$ from the area of domestic most. Concrete durability influence Air Content. Presently, We used to AE(air-entraining agent) for increase freeze-thaw durability. So, on concrete Air Spacing ratio used $200{\mu}m{\sim}230{\mu}m$ in Canada and under $250{\mu}m$ in Japan institution. Use of Air content has been and will continue to be a major part of concrete durability and scaling. Chloride-containing chemicals such as calcium chloride or rock salt are main deicers for the road. The prepared optimum mix concrete in this study show that freeze-thaw and scaling resistance of Non-AE(air content 1.5%) and AE (air content 4.5%, 7.2%). Solution concentrations of deicing agent were good result, and the pore system and change of hydration products is not difference comparing before freeze-thaw test.

  • Until now, in planning and constructing KTX and the Express Way, the connectivity and transfer between these facilities have not been considered. In this study the effect of mode choice behavior by connecting KTX and the Express Way is analyzed through estimating Multinomial Logit Model and Binary Logit Model. The SP and RP surveys to develop these models were carried out and the data were selected from the passengers using the KTX station, Express Bus Terminals and Rest Areas in the Express Way. To test the effect of connectivity and transfer in the field, the case study for Dongtan KTX station was carried out. According to the results, connecting the KTX station and the Express Way has the effect of increasing the demand by 30%. And this is caused by saving about 120 minutes of traveling time from Seoul to Pusan. This study shows that the connectivity and transfer can increase the efficiency of transportation system and the improvement in the mobility and accessibility will maximize the usages of these two facilities.
