  • In this study, an experimental study was performed to evaluate the shear resistance of cast-in-place(CIP) anchors reinforced with hairpin and stirrup bars under static and dynamic loads. The reinforcement was developed using D6 bars, and the anchors were installed with 20mm diameter and 120mm edge distance. Three tests were conducted for each type of reinforced anchor under static and dynamic shear load with a pulsating frequency of 1 Hz, respectively. It was found that the strength of hairpin-reinforced anchor was affected by the concrete cover and the dynamic tests showed no capacity reduction of anchors compared with static tests. The stirrup-reinforced anchor showed little increase of resistance compared with unreinforced anchor and the resistance under dynamic loading showed nearly same strength by static loading.

  • The shear behavior of four different interfaces consisting of four types of geosynthetics was investigated, and both static and dynamic test for the geosynthetic interfaces were conducted. The monotonic shear experiments were performed by using an inclined board apparatus and large direct shear device. The interface shear strength obtained from the inclined board test was compared with calculated values from large direct shear tests. The comparison results indicated that direct shear tests show high possibility to over-predict the shear strength in the low normal stress range where direct shear tests are not performed. Curved failure envelopes were also obtained for interface cases where two static shear tests were conducted. By comparing the friction angles measured from three tests, i.e. direct shear, inclined board, and shaking table test, it was found that the friction angle might be different depending on the test method and normal stresses applied in the research. Therefore, it was concluded that the testing method should be determined carefully by considering the type of loads and the normal stress expected in the field with using the geosynthetic materials installed in the site.

  • Undrained cyclic simple shear tests and undrained cyclic triaxial tests were performed on silt containing sand in order to investigate the effects of silt contents on the liquefaction strength and shear characteristics of the sand. From the view that the difference of liquefaction strength for different content of silt stems from dilatancy characteristics of the sand, stress-dilatancy relation of the sand was obtained from drained triaxial test in which the mean stress was kept constant. Considerations on liquefaction behaviors were made by comparing the drained and undrained behaviors of sands during static shear test. It is concluded that ${\lambda}$-value of the stress-dilatancy relation will be closely related to the liquefaction strength.

  • This study evaluates the dynamic tensile behavior of HPFRCC according to compressive strength levels of 100, 140 and 180 MPa. Firstly, the compressive stress-strain relationship of 100, 140 and 180 MPa class HPFRCC was analyzed. As a result, the compressive strengths were 112, 150 and 202 MPa, respectively, and the elastic modulus increased with increasing compressive strength. The static tensile strengths of HPFRCC of 100, 140 and 180 MPa were 10.7, 11.5 and 16.5 MPa, and tensile strength also increased with increasing compressive strength. On the other hand, static tensile strength and energy absorption capacity at 100 and 140 MPa class HPFRCC showed no significant difference according to the compressive strength level. It was influenced by the specification of specimen and the arrangement of steel fiber. As a result of evaluating the dynamic impact tensile strength of HPFRCC, tensile strength and dynamic impact factor of all HPFRCCs tended to increase with increasing strain rate from 10-1/s to 150/s. In the same strain rate range, the DIF of the tensile strength was measured higher as the compressive strength of HPFRCC was lower. It is considered that HPFRCC of 100 MPa is the best in terms of efficiency. Therefore, it is advantageous to use HPFRCC with high compressive strength when a high level of tensile performance is required, and it is preferable to use HPFRCC close to the target compressive strength for more efficient approach at a high strain rate such as explosion.

  • Weathered soil slope loses its shear strength if it is exposed in the air for a long time or in contact with water. And this kind of strength loss is remarkable in dam slope which has very big difference in water level according to the season. In this study, shear strength loss of weathered soil due to saturation had been found out through dryness and wetness repetition direct shear test. Also relation between penetration blow number(Nc) and shear strength parameter had been found out through small sized dynamic cone penetration test device and the correlation equation of Nc had been proposed through artificial neural network analysis to estimate shear strength parameter easily.

  • In this study, flowable backfill made with weathered granite soil is tested to provide basic engineering properties that can be used as design input to overcome settlement problems in road pavement due to low stiffness of backfill which is generated by porosity of the soil. For design purpose, a proper mixing ratio is developed first. Then several test methods including FF/RC, PMT and LDWT including axial compression test are adapted for checking stiffness and measuring axial strength of the material separately that can be used for design values.

  • This paper described a results of dynamic stability by using wheel tracking test and unconfined compression test, in order to evaluate behavior characteristics on the developed pocketable expansion material for emergency restoration of ground cavity. The wheel tracking test result showed that the settlement increment ratio of the recovered ground by the expansion material was decreased compared to the sandy ground in high load condition. That is, it was confirmed that the expansion material was able to restrain the settlement due to the material stiffness, and the same results were obtained for the dynamic stability evaluation results. From the results of unconfined compression test, the pocketable expansion material was found to be able to fully support load on the restored cavity.

  • Dynamic properties of materials by shock loads such as rock blasting and earthquake are recently attracted in the design of aboveground and underground structures. The advance of measuring devices enables to obtain the whole histories of stress and strain in rock specimen of which the failure is completed in several hundred microseconds. The SHPB has been a popular and promising technique to study the dynamic behavior of rock. And the dynamic compressive, tensile and other test with this experiment system are planned to be Suggested Methods of ISRM. This technical paper is to introduced one study article which focuses the design of 3S (special shaped striker) to produce the half-sine wave to eliminate the problems of the rectangular wave. This article is also describing the advantage of half-sine incident wave and size effect of rock dynamic strength.

  • For experimental study on the effect of particle size distribution on the liquefaction resistance strength, particle size distribution curves of the dredged soil were investigated. In this process, four mean particle sizes and three uniformity coefficients were defined representatively and twelve representative particle size distribution curves which have different mean particle size and uniformity coefficient, were defined and manufactured by using the real dredged river soil. Cyclic triaxial tests and resonant column tests were carried out to analyze the effect of mean particle size and uniformity coefficient on the liquefaction resistance strength and dynamic characteristics.
