Effects of Film Thickness and Moisture Absorbing material on Ginger Quality during MA Storage (필름두께 및 흡습제 처리에 따른 생강의 MA 저장효과)

  • The effects of film thickness and moisture absorbing materials(MAM) on the ginger qualities were investigated during MA storage for 150 days. LDPE films of 0.04, 0.06 and 0.08mm thicknesses were applied to select the adequate film in gas permiability. MAMs of sheet and sachet type were applied to 0.06mm-LDPE film bag to prevent moisture condensation during storage. Thickness of film used affected neither weight loss nor firmness of gingers during U storage. But the thinner in thickness showed the less changes in sprouting, spoilage and reducing sugar. Moreover, compared with MAP alone, MAPs with MAM of both sachet and sheet styles led to the weight loss of gingers increasing by more than 3-4 times, but sprouting rate, spoilage rate and reducing sugar decreasing by 3.3, 1.4 and 2.3 times, respectively. These results showed that MAP with UM was significantly effective to prolong the freshness of ginger by longer than 2 times, compared with MAP alone.

  • Separation of plutonium species was studied by ion chromatography installed in a glove box for the determination of plutonium element. The plutonium species, $PuO_2^{2+},\; PC^{4+}\; and\; Pu^{3+}$, were stably separated on dynamically equilibrated cation exchanger using 1-octanesulfonate and ${\alpha}$-HiBA eluant after controlling the plutonium oxidation states with KI, $NaNO_2\;or=;KBrO_3$ based on the oxidation-reduction potentials. For the separation of plutonium from other matrix, $PuO_2^{2+}\; and\; Pu^{4+}$ were reduced to $Pu^{3+}$ with KI and $NaNO_2$ followed by cation exchange chromatography.

  • The study is to find the possibility of cooperation between civil servants as a mediators for changing a society in a region into community of practice. "Community" is the value-oriented concept and exists in a local community, a community of practice and a organization that have the characteristic of "Community." Public libraries as "Community" have both characteristics of local community and community of practice. And public libraries as community gives public services for neighborhood region problem-solving to people. But in Korea, Residents autonomy system in Dong gives the service to people. They all conducts the business for changing a society in a region to community of Practice. Therefore the study conducted a survey about sense of community and necessity of cooperation in the business. The results are following: The group of higher awareness on community feels less needs to corporate the work in community than the group of lower awareness on community; The group of higher awareness on community or the group having more experience on community have lower job satisfaction. Therefore the motivation on working for community is needed for the mediator.

  • Exfoliated graphite oxide (EGO) was prepared by graphite oxide in an aqueous solution of TMAOH. The hybrid graphene/Zn-Al LDH material was fabricated by the hydrothermal reduction of the solution of EGO, $Zn(NO_3)_2{\cdot}6H_2O$, $Al(NO_3)_3{\cdot}9H_2O$, urea, and trisodium citrate. That is, metal ions were absorbed on the surface of EGO, and Zn-Al LDH material was randomly dispersed on the surface of graphene along with a reduction process of EGO to graphene by hydrothermal treatment. The composition, morphology, and thermal property of the obtained graphene-based hybrid material were studied by FE-SEM, EDX, TEM, FT-IR, XRD, TGA, and DSC.

  • In the cement industry, NOx emission is recognized as an important problem, and NOx reduction technologies can be divided into process change, staged combustion, low NOx burner, selective non-catalytic reduction and selective catalytic reduction method. The operation of the selective non-catalytic reduction method, which is the most used in the cement industry, is expected to make it difficult to meet the emission standards to be strengthened in the future, and it is necessary to improve equipment such as SCR and secure technologies. Recently, we are developing technologies for simultaneous application of SNCR and SCR, dust and denitrification filter technology, and removal technology using NO oxidation.

  • In this study, the filtering characteristics of sulfur gases were investigated from a number of respects. For the purpose of this study, a standard gas containing a single oxidized S ($SO_2$) and five reduced S compounds (RSCs) including $H_2S$, $CH_3SH$, DMS, $CS_2$, and DMDS was prepared. After flowing this standard gas through a glass fiber filter, its removal efficiencies were examined by comparing the concentrations between prior to and after its passage. The results indicated that almost complete removal of $SO_2$ was achieved by this filtering, while the patterns for RSCs were distinguished by such factors as molecular weight or reactivity. It was found that about 60% of the most reactive RSC, $H_2S$ was removed by filter, while the heavy RSC generally showed removal rate of about 5% or less.

Effect of Dietary Vitamin A on the Status of Antioxidants in Ethanol-Treated Rats (비타민 A 섭취가 에탄올을 급여한 흰쥐의 체내 항산화 영양소 상태에 미치는 영향)

  • The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary vitamin A on the antioxidant status in ethanol-treated rats. Weaning rats were fed a basal diet until they reached about 160-180g body weight. Thereafter, four experimental groups were fed a liquid diet containing 36% ethanol of total calorie and four pair-fed groups were fed isocaloric sucorse instead of ethanol. Additionally, the liquid diet contained adequate amount of ${\beta}-carotene$, retinyl acetate, or 13-cis-retinoic acid except vitamin A deficient diet. The rats were sacrificed after 7 weeks of feedng periods. Significant decrease in hepatic vitamin E content was found in rats treated with chronic ethanol. However, dietary supplementation of retinyl acetate modified the change to some extent. Total vitamin C content of liver increased in vitamin A-deficient or ${\beta}-carotene$ groups with ethanol feeding. The ratio of reduced/oxidized vitamin C increased in the plasma and liver of ${\beta}-carotene$ group with ethanol feeding. Chronic ethanol intake did not change the total glutathione content of rat liver, but increased reduced glutathione(GSH)/oxidized glutathione(GSSG) ratio. This increase in hepatic GSH after chronic ethanol treatment. The changes of Se content in plasma and liver was not consistant. Fe content of liver increased by ethanol treatment, but this increase reduced in rats fed dietary retinyl acetate or 13-cis-retinoic acid. Fe content of plasma increased in vitamin A-deficient and ${\beta}-carotene$ supplemented groups with ethanol intake.

Suppression of Nitrate Accumulation in Vegetables by Foliar Application of Micronutrients (미량원소 엽면 처리에 의한 엽채류의 질산태 질소 축적 억제)

  • Suppression of nitrate accumulation in vegetables through foliar application of micronutrients was investigated. Spinach and lettuce were grown in pots under greenhouse condition. Micronutrient solutions containing Cu, Mn, Mo, and Zn were used; chitosan was added into one and the other contained chitosan oligomers. The micronutrient solutions were sprayed on the leaves at 3 and 4 weeks after transplanting of 20-day-old seedlings. Plants were harvested at 5-weeks after transplanting. Yield, contents of chlorophyll, Brix value, micronutrient, and nitrate, and nitrate reductase activity were measured. Fresh weights of lettuce and spinach were significantly increased by the foliar application of micronutrients. Contents of chlorophyll and micronutrients were higher in micronutrient-treated plants, while those of nitrate were reduced by about 10 and 14-23% in lettuce and spinach, respectively. Compared to the control plants, nitrate reductase activity was higher in plants treated with micronutrients. Results of this study indicate the effect of micronutrients on the suppression of nitrate accumulation was relatively small in comparison to the contents of nitrate in leaves of spinach and lettuce. To maximize the effect, nutrient composition in solution, application time, and frequency should be further examined, taking into consideration nitrogen level in soil and other environmental factors including light condition.

Optimum Conditions of Enzymatic Reactions for Production of Isomaltooligosaccharides from Rice Flour (쌀가루로부터 이소말토올리고당 제조를 위한 효소반응 최적 조건)

  • This study investigated the optimal conditions of enzymatic reaction for production of isomaltooligosaccharides (IMO) using rice flour. To manufacture IMO, commercial enzymes (Termamyl 2X, Maltogenase L, Promozyme D2, Fungamyl 800L and Transglucosidase L) were used. The sugar composition and amount of IMO were examined by HPLC with charged aerosol detector (HPLC-CAD) in each manufacturing process. Liquefaction reaction was performed according to different Termamyl 2X concentrations (0.025%, 0.05%, 0.075%, 0.1%) and reaction times (1 h, 2 h). As a result, the reducing sugar content was the highest at 138.26 g/L when 0.075% Termamyl 2X was added for 2 hours. In order to optimize simultaneous saccharification and transglucosylation, experiments on enzyme selection, enzyme concentration and enzyme reaction time were conducted. Reaction with 0.0015% Maltogenase L, 0.05-0.1% Promozyme D2 and 0.1% Tansglucosidase L was effective in decreasing glucose content and increasing content of IMO with a high degree of polymerization. A change in sugar content was observed every 6 hours to determine the optimal reaction time, and the highest IMO was produced after 36 hours of reaction (75.36 g/L). The IMO prepared under optimal conditions showed isomaltose, 35.11 g/L; panose, 11.97 g/L; isomaltotriose, 19.95 g/L; isomaltotetraose, 7.46 g/L; isomaltopentaose, 1.05 g/L at 18 brix and the ratio of IMO in the total sugar was 56.37%.

Finance and Persona: a Philosophical Understanding of Modern Finance (금융과 페르소나(persona): 금융의 정치 철학적 이해)

  • According to F. Nietzsche and A. N. Whitehead, the fatal error of the modern Western ontology is to mistakenly assume that the structure of reality is the same as the structure of language, and to misplace the fictional linguistic subject as a realistic subject. This fictional concept of the subject is the concept of person. This paper will analyze how this fictional concept of person forms the basis for the development of modern finance. The historical period and place of analysis of the paper is England in the late 17th century. At this time and place, the modern form of banking began, and the concept of person was developed philosophically by English intellectuals, especially by John Locke. And at the same time, joint-stock companies and the English nation state acquired their independent abstract personhood. The fictional concept of person has reduced social relations to "exclusive property rights" and "creditor-debtor relations," and this reduction forms the ontological basis of modern finance. In modern finance where property rights and creditors' rights are mixed, property owners excercise exclusive property rights but avoid responsibility for the exercise by being transformed to creditors. Furthermore, property owners' privilege were extended when the modern groups-joint-stock companies and the nation state-who are endowed with eternal and independent personhood are reduced to debtors for the property owners.
