The aim of this study is to explore the purpose and method of reading by examining relevant research from various academic fields. According to the reading theory in the Cho-seon Dynasty, reading was classified as either a way of gaining fame, becoming a gentle man, or solving problems. However, this views have been largely replaced by the belief that reading serves two main purposes: self-discipline and practical usage in this study (Confucian perspectives have been excluded from this approach). The traditional reading method, known as sukookdok-jeongsa, influenced by Chu-tzu's reading, emphasized a fluent reading and a deep reading. A fluent reading (sukookdok) method involved a reading aloud, memorizing, and a repeated reading for the literal decoding. After decoding, a deep reading (jeongsa) involved a reading while taking notes, a reading with reference and a repeated reading for the optimal comprehension. A fluent reading in the traditional reading theory is succeeded by 'a reading for liberal arts' and a deep reading is succeeded by 'a reading for learning'. The sukookdok-jeongsa's various reading methods are useful enough to apply to reading education in the school library. But 'a reading for fun' did not appear in the traditional reading theory.

The Purpose of this study is to consider the characters of reading theory in the age of Yi dynasty. Accordingly It is analyzed to the reading theory in work materials of the intellects at the age of Yi dynasty that the purpose, process and methods of reading. We have to succeed traditional reading mind that reading(learning) is life namely. Moreover We have to enlighten as to proper reading theory today. The purpose of this study is to check the educational influence and accountability of school library and to derive implications for the improvement of public education, using raw data of OECD PISA 2009. To do this, the reading achievement as well as questionnaire of 4,989 Korean students' data in OECD PISA 2009 were used. It analyzed how the visit of library can affect reading achievement, reading attitude and behavioral through structural equation modeling method. The results were as follows. The library use factor is a cause-effect relationship among reading achievement, reading attitude and behavioral factors. In addition, the reading attitude is a cause-effect relationship between reading behavior factor and reading achievement. In the part of reading behavior is a cause-effect relationship reading achievement. In the results of applying this causal relationship of whole population, in some individual cases, they are activated as moderating variable.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends of reading research in Korea. A total of 191 research articles were selected from 3 journals in Library and Information Science. Articles were analyzed in the aspects of research subjects, research methods, author types, and research funds. The writer discussed the problems shown in the articles and suggested some recommendations for the development of reading research.

In this study, the effects of reading strategy, which is a combination of reading methods on high school students' reading ability were investigated using action research methodology in order to provide practical support in educational fields. Also, the effects of reading strategies on adolescents' reading attitudes and the correlation between text comprehension and change of reading attitudes were investigated. This study is unique for its adoption of reading method combinations as reading strategies to enhance the effectiveness of reading in terms of text comprehension. Also, this study is meaningful in dealing with the cognitive abilities of high school students.

Regardless of previous educational attempts in youth career education, there are not specific methods for reading to improve career maturity yet. This study aims to identify the reading method based on cognitive aspect which impacts career maturity and the mediation effect of self-efficacy in this process. This study tries to understand the roles of reading by applying the various reading methods suggested in the 2015 Revised National Curriculum. Data was collected through interviews and statistical analysis from a survey completed by middle school students. Findings showed that critical reading affected the decisiveness as well as the confidence of career maturity. Also, emotional reading and creative reading influenced the preparation of career maturity. Critical reading impacted all subvariables of self-efficacy - confidence, self-regulating efficacy, and task difficulty preference. Findings also showed that emotional reading affected self-regulating efficacy. Ultimately, the confidence of self-efficacy partly mediated critical reading and decisiveness. This study contributes to guiding reading instructions for practitioners and school curriculums to develop career maturity and self-efficacy.

초등학교 학생들의 독서능력과 수준을 고려한 독서교육을 위해 본 연구진이 선행연구로 개발한 멀티미디어 기술을 활용한 수준별 독서지원 시스템에서는 학생들의 독서능력을 진단할 수 있는 진단지, 독서능력에 알맞은 도서 및 독서방법 안내, 멀티미디어 기술을 활용한 다양한 감상표현활동 등을 개발하였다[4]. 그러나 독서교육 방법과 도서는 수준별로 제시하여 주었으나 독후 활동은 수준에 관계없이 동일한 활동을 제시함으로써 수준에 알맞은 독후 활동의 어려움이 제기되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 제7차 초등학교 국어과 하위목표와 교육부 ICT 기준안을 고려하여 독서에 흥미를 가질 수 있도록 학생들의 독서능력에 알맞은 멀티미디어 기술을 활용한 수준별 독후활동을 개발하고자 하였다.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the perception of records for reading activities in high schools and to make a suggestion for improvement of reading activities records. Data for 120 high school students were collected and analyzed for this study. This study showed negative response results in terms of the satisfaction of the 'reading activity situation' record, the necessity of the reading activity record, and the method of recording the reading activity. It is, however, necessary to improve the current recording method to invigorate high school students' reading activities. Since it is not easy to identify students' development in reading by the titles which they provides for the reading activity records, a variety of reading activities need to be recorded for understanding students' development process and interaction activities with teachers. It is expected that the findings in this study will be significant data to improve evaluation methods of reading activities for college admission and to cultivate proper reading culture in high schools.
