  • This paper describes the implementation of a precise underwater navigation solution using a multi-sensor fusion technique based on USBL, DVL, and IMU measurements. To implement this precise underwater navigation solution, three strategies are chosen. The first involves heading alignment angle identification to enhance the performance of a standalone dead-reckoning algorithm. In the second, the absolute position is found quickly to prevent the accumulation of integration error. The third one is the introduction of an effective outlier rejection algorithm. The performance of the developed algorithm was verified with experimental data acquired by the deep-sea ROV, Hemire, in the East-sea during a survey of a methane gas seepage area at a 1,500 m depth.

  • The temperature field of a counterflow non-premixed flame is investigated using thermocouples of two sizes. A thermal balance is performed on the thermocouple in order to calculate the magnitude of the radiation corrections involved. Both the thermocouple wire and bead are separately considered to be the relevant thermal surface to which convective heat transfer takes place, and from which radiation lasses occur. The flame is also simulated by using a detailed chemical kinetic mechanism in a previously developed computer code. The local thermo-physical properties of the gas mixture, required to calculate the corrections, are determined both from the simulation, and by approximating the properties of the mixture as those of molecular nitrogen at the measured temperatures. It is concluded that the thermocouple wire is the appropriate thermal surface to which radiation corrections apply, in the absence of information about the gas mixture, its properties can be reasonably approximated by those of nitrogen rm ($N_2$), and the radiation corrections are very sensitive to misalignments in the temperature and velocity fields.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of swirler angle and the aspect ratio of swirl chamber of nozzle on the characteristics of single and twin spray. The characteristics of sprays have been investigated by measuring the spray angle, droplet size and velocity. Visualization of spray was conducted to obtain the spray angle and breakup process. The spray characteristics such as droplet size and velocity were measured by Phase Doppler Anemometry(PDA). It was found that the spray angle was increased with increasing the swirler angle. For both sprays, the axial velocity and SMD were decreased with increasing the swirler angle. It was also shown that the axial velocity and SMD were decreased with increasing the aspect ratio of swirl chamber, but for the twin spray, the axial velocity and SMD were not influenced significantly by the changing the aspect ratio of swirl chamber. The effect of swirler angle on the spray characteristics was greater than the aspect ratio of swirl chamber for single spray. The nozzle pitch was one of the important factors affecting the spray characteristics of twin spray.

  • A one dimensional neutron kinetics program, BIK which is applicable to the safety analyses of PWR's is developed to analyze the reactor core in axial dimension. The BIK employs the finite difference technique in space and $\theta$-time integration method in time. Detailed models for the Doppler and moderator feedbacks and control rod motion are included. The benchmark of the nuclear model is carried out through the ANL benchmark problem and the time dependent nuclear power change in the rod ejection accident of KNU1 is calculated by BIK code. The results indicate that the BIK can predict the neutron dynamics with fair accuracy within the limits of one dimensional analysis and it is useful for the safety analyses of PWR's.

  • A noncontact optical system that can measure displacement or vibration of an object is designed by employing the oblique ray method. By using a single convex lens which serves as both the input and output lenses, we made the optical system very compact and reliable. In addition, the bandwidth of the vibration measurement is more than 100 KHz by using the position-sensitive detector as the beam position sensor. The resolution and capture range of the system are $\pm$1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 1100 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, respectively. As a sample test, the vibrations of a speaker and a rotating compact disc surface were measured.

  • The GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System) provides important information such as Position and Navigation, Timing(PNT) to various weapon systems in the military. as a result, applications that employ satellite navigation systems are increasing. therefore, a number of studies have been conducted to deceive the weapon systems that employ GNSS. GNSS spoofing denotes the transmission of counterfeit GNSS-like signals with the intention to produce a false position and time within the victim receiver. In order to deceive the victim receiver, spoofing signal should be synchronized with GNSS signal in doppler frequency and code phase, etc. In this paper, Civilian GPS L1 C/A spoofing signals have been evaluated and analyzed by SDR receiver.

  • During the test operation period of the wind profiler prototype, radio frequency interference (RFI) contamination occurred in the spectrum. The reference of the RFI that removed the algorithm appearing in the wind profiler spectrum were investigated, and a new algorithm was developed to remove the RFI. First, it was filtered with a threshold value of 0.1 m/s of the spectral width, and the range of the number of gates with the same radial velocity was determined according to whether the beam was a vertical beam or an oblique beam. RFI contamination was removed through filtering and scanning of non-weather signals, and the continuity of wind vectors calculated from the improved spectral radial velocity was verified.

  • To obtain the system requirement specification in the beginning of the precision guidance system development, the effectiveness and reliability analysis for the system are necessary. The main purpose of this research is to obtain the system requirement specification for the high speed unmanned underwater vehicles by carrying out the effectiveness analysis using the modeling and simulation scheme. The effectiveness is position error for target position. Reaching accuracy is expected to be affected by the navigation sensor parameter. Assume that the navigation sensors that is consist of inertial navigation system(INS) and doppler velocity log(DVL) is the parameter. To analyze the effectiveness of each parameter, Monte-Carlo numerical simulation is performed in this research. The effectiveness analysis is carried out using circular error probability(CEP) and variance analyze scheme. Considering the cost function, the specification of the navigation sensor is provided. The cost function is consist of the INS and DVL specification and the price of those sensors.

  • Since the range and Doppler resolution of the synthetic aperture radar(SAR) image becomes very high, the target detection accuracy can be significantly increased, but the computational burden is also increased. The conventional single-cell based CFAR detector performs the target detection on every single cell basis, thus it causes the serious increment of the computational load. In this paper, the improved two-step MCA-CFAR detector is proposed for the improvement of the target detection as well as the reduction of computational load: the first step is to use the MCA-CFAR, and the second step is to use the single-cell based CFAR detection in the expected target area for final decision. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with the conventional single-cell based CFAR and MCA-CFAR on SAR images.

  • This paper describes a method for overcoming the motion artifacts inherent in synthetic aperture(SA) imaging. based on the investigation results as to the influence of a target motion on synthetic aperture techniques. This method uses a region-based motion compensation approach in which only the axial motion is estimated and compensated for a given region of interest(ROI) under the assumption that the whole ROI moves uniformly The estimated axial motion is calculated with a crosscorrelation(CC) method at the Point where the focused signal has the maximum energy within the ROI. We also presents a method for estimating the axial motion using the autocorrelation(AC) method that is widely used to estimate average Doppler frequency Both computer simulations and in vivo experiments show that the proposed methods can improve greatly the spatial resolution and SNR of ultrasound imaging by implementing the SA techniques for two-way dynamic focusing without motion artifacts. In addition the AC-barred motion compensation method provides almost the same results as the CC-based one, but with a dramatically reduced computational complexity.
