  • 광집적회로의 등장으로 그 설계에 있어서 다양한 구조의 광배선은 필수적 요소가 되었다. 일반적으로 전기적 배선 및 소자간에 전자기파의 간섭으로 인해 신호의 왜곡이 야기될 뿐 아니라 기생정전효과 등에 의해 소자 시간지연이 유발되듯이, 광 집적회로에서도 광배선간 감쇄필드의 겹침으로 인해 원하지 않는 광결합이 발생하게 된다. 이러한 광집적회로내에서의 이러한 불필요한 광결합을 줄이기 위해서 곡선형 구조의 광배선들이 이용되며 대부분의 경우 이러한 곡선형 도파로 부분의 광결합은 무시된다. (중략)

  • Quasi-phase-matched (QPM) second harmonic generation (SHG) waveguide devices for a green light generation were fabricated by a periodically patterned electrode on the +Z crystal surface and homogeneous LiCl solution using a 5 mol% MgO doped congruent z-cut lithium niobate crystals. Using selective chemical etching, we confirmed the periodic (${\sim}6.8{\mu}m$) domain inverted structure and measured SHG properties of fabricated periodically poled MgO : $LiNbO_3$ ridge-type waveguides.

  • The propagation characteristic of an optical waveguide was investigated by measuring with a near-field scanning optical microscope (NSOM) the evanescent field formed at the neighbor of its core-cladding interface. For this purpose, the NSOM system was developed specially as a form of Photon scanning tunneling microscope. The evanescent field distributions of several channel waveguides were measured at the wavelength of 1550 ㎚, and the usefulness of the system was verified by comparing experimental results with simulation results. In particular, the interference phenomena of the guided modes during their propagation along a multimode channel waveguide could be observed directly from the measured evanescent field distribution.

  • Exertion has been made to develop high-temperature (about $250{\sim}650^{\circ}C$) immersion ultrasonic sensor for the visualization of objects, temperature measurement, dimensional check, or nondestructive testing of welds under liquid sodium. In this study, the feasibility of the ultrasonic sensor taking advantage of a strip waveguide was confirmed by water-experiment. The lowest order of antisymmetric Lamb wave was used in the frequency range with negligible dispersion. This plate wave was excited in the stainless steel strip waveguide of 1.0mm thickness and 13mm width by the comb-structure transducer of 2.3MHz frequency. Its attenuation coefficient was 1.2dB/m in air and 380dB/m in water. The signal to noise ratio of 25dB was obtained from a planar reflector 270mm away from the beam aperture of $13mm{\times}39mm$ size.

  • 목적 : 상지, 상백피, 상엽은 모두 뽕나무에서 유래한 것으로 한의학에서 수천 년 동안 사용되어왔다. 최근 이들의 미백효능이 발견되면서 더욱 주목을 받고 있다. 피부의 멜라닌 색소 침착은 자선에 대한 정상적인 방어기전이다. 그러나 비정상적인 색소침착은 심각한 미용적 문제를 가져온다. 최근 약침이 피부 미백에 이용되고 있다. 또한 발효와 열처리는 미백화장료 가공의 최신 경향이다. 이 연구에서는 상지, 상백피, 상엽 약침액이 발효와 열처리 후에 피부 미백에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 한다. 방법 : 상지, 상백피, 상엽을 각각 4개의 그룹으로 나누었다. (1) 비발효, 비열처리, (2) 비발효, 열처리, (3) 발효, 비열처리, (4) 발효, 열처리한 그룹들에 타이로시나제 활성 및 도파 산화 활성, 그리고 멜라닌 함량을 측정하여 비교하였다. 결과 : 타이로시나제 활성 및 도파 산화 활성, 그리고 멜라닌 함량에 있어서, 발효, 열처리가 대체로 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 멜라닌 함량에 있어서 발효, 열처리한 군이 대조군에 비해 유의성 있는 감소를 보였다. 결론 : 주근깨, 흑색종, 간반(肝斑) 등 비정상적인 색소 침착 질환을 치료하기 위한 상지, 상백피, 상엽 약침액 제조에 있어, 발효 및 열처리 방식을 적용하면 보다 나은 미백효능을 발휘할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

Fabrication and characterization of XPM based wavelength converter module with monolithically integrated SOA's (SOA 집적 XPM형 파장변환기 모듈 제작 및 특성)

  • Mach-Zehnder interferometric wavelength converters with monolithically integrated semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA's) have been fabricated and characteristics of wavelength conversion at 10 Gb/s have been investigated for wavelength span of 40 nm. The devices have been achieved by using a butt-joint combination of buried ridge structure type SOA's and passive waveguides. In the integration, a new method has been applied that removes p+InP cladding layer leading to high propagation loss and forms simultaneously the current blocking and the cladding layer using undoped InP. The module packaging has been achieved by using a titled fiber array for effective coupling into the tilted waveguide in the wavelength converter. Using the module, wavelength conversion with power penalty lower than 1 ㏈ at 10 Gb/s has been demonstrated for wavelength span of 40 nm. In addition, it is show that the module can provide 2R (re-amplification, re-shaping) operation by demonstrating the conversion with the negative penalty.

Stress-Free Pyrex-Based Optical Waveguide for Planar Lightwave Circuits on Silicon Substrate (실리콘 기판의 광집적회로를 위한 Pyrex 무응력 도파박막)

  • We developed aerosol flame deposition method and made stress-free Pyrex-based optical waveguide on silicon substrate using this method. Zr is doped to control the refractive index of Pyrex waveguide layers. The refractive index of the film changes from 1.460 to 1.475 as the content of Zr changes from 0 to 3 wt%. Er is doped to see the possibility of applying this Pyrex waveguide as PLC-type (Planar Lightwave Circuit) optical amplifier. The refractive index of the film changes from 1.460 to 1.465 as the content of Zr changes from 0 to 1 wt%. Light launching using a prism coupler to the fabricated waveguide showed good quality for application to PLC. The polarization dependence of refractive-index of the Pyrex film is measured to be less than $2{\times}10^{-4}$.

  • We demonstrate the operating characteristics(center wavelength, bandwidth, TE/TM polarization, tuning range) of grating-assisted co-directional coupler(GACC) filter fabricated with InGaAsP compound semiconductor. A design of waveguide structure has been focused on the narrow bandwidth characteristics of the filter. Reactive ion etching technique was employed for the uniform waveguide formation. The bandwidths(FWHM) and center wavelengths of the fabricated GACC filter were measured by 1.5 nm and 1530.6 nm for TE polarization and 1.3 nm and 1494.0 nm for TM polarization. This is the one of the narrowest bandwidth at 1530 nm region ever reported. The center wavelength shifted form 1530 nm to 1538 nm when the current of 100 mA was injected at 4.5 mm-long device. Good agreement between the designed and measured operating characteristics for some waveguide structures is demonstrated.

Measurement of Behaviors of Optical Filter using Evanescent Field Coupling between Single Mode Fiber and Multimode Planar Waveguide (단일모드 광섬유와 다중모드 평면도파로의 소산장결합을 이용한 광필터의 동작특성 측정)

  • In this paper, we proposed a simple measurement method to find the behaviors of the fiber-to-waveguide coupler. The polished fiber blocks and planar waveguides on silicon dioxide were fabricated independently and then optically coupled by physical pressure. Several kinds of polymer with different refractive indices were used for waveguide films. The proposed method makes it possible to measure the center wavelength, bandwidth, extinction ratio, and polarization dependence of the coupler during fabrication procedure. The wavelength sensitivity increased with refractive index of polymer. The symmetric planar waveguide structure and isotropic property of guiding materials reduced polarization dependent property. Insertion loss of the coupler was less than 0.5dB. It is expected that our measurement method is useful for developing various optical devices using evanescent coupling between polished fiber and planar waveguide such as optical modulators and filters etc.

  • In this study, an optical PCB was proposed which can overcome the limitations of the conventional PCB, and a new structure with pluggable lens was considered for a high-efficient passive alignment. The structure was a lens-added optical waveguide for the improvement of misalignment between the lens and the waveguide in the alignment. Also, as it had a barrier-type structure to prevent the surface damage of the lens by desorption, the high-efficient passive alignment can be realized. The structure was designed by optimizing the simulation and the fabrication process of the pluggable lens structure was conducted using the repetitive photolithography and the thermal reflow. The optical waveguide with the lens-integrated pluggable interconnection was fabricated by the imprint process using the polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) replica mold. Therefore, we confirmed the possibility of pluggable lens-added optical waveguide structure fabrication for high-efficient passive alignment.
