Embedment Properties of Reflective Beads for Thermoplastic Road Markings (열가소성 차선도장에서 반사유리알의 함침특성)

  • Thermoplastic road markings are one of the most widely used road markings in the world. However, the durability of domestic road markings is relatively shorter than that of the global average of, approximately, three years. To overcome it, the conventional thermoplastic road markings were prepared by adding polyolefin and oxidized PE wax to conventional petroleum resin. In addition, the melting viscosity was designed below 500 cP at $220^{\circ}C$ as well as the optimum viscosity for spray painting, and embedding ratio of glass beads were controlled about 50~60% by spraying in an interval of 1 second. Also the glass bead adhesive ratio was improved by reducing the amount of $CaCO_3$ below 40 wt%. The retroreflectivity was tested under four different conditions to evaluate the abrasion resistance of thermoplastic road markings. The retroreflectivity coefficient satisfied the international standard ($150mcd{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}lux^{-1}$) in this study, and TPRM-7 was determined as an optimal ratio.

Analysis of Productivity Differences in Steel Bridge Manufacturing Plants According to Resource Allocation Methods for the Bottleneck (병목공정 자원할당 방식에 따른 강교 제작공장 생산성 차이 분석)

  • In this study, we proposed resource allocation methodologies to improve the productivity of steel bridge manufacturing plants based on the constraint theory which is very popular in the area of manufacturing industries. To this end, after defining the painting process as a bottleneck, three resource allocation methodologies were developed: Operation Specific Resource Allocation (OSRA), Product Specific Resource Allocation (PSRA), and General Resource Allocation (GRA). As a result of experiments for performance evaluation using a simulation model of the steel bridge supply chain, GRA showed the best performance in terms of the Number of Work-In-Process (NWIP) and Waiting Time (WT), in particular, as workload itself and its variability were increased, the performance gap with the specific resource allocation became further deepened. On average, GRA reduced NWIP by 36.2% and WT by 34.6% compared to OSRA, and reduced NWIP by 71.0% and WT by 70.4% compared to PSRA. The reduction of NWIP and WT means alleviating the bottleneck of the painting process, which eventually means that the productivity of the steel bridge manufacturing plant has improved.

  • Electrochemical methods have been widely used to study the performances and mechanisms for the degradation of organic and inorganic coatings. In this study, EN(Electrochemical noise) measurement was applied to the protective properties and review the parameters analyzed noise signals in the time and in the frequency domain for epoxy resin based coated steels during exposure to hot sea water($40^{\circ}C$) and salt spray for 200 days. It was also found that $R_n$(Noise resistance), $R_{sn}$($f_{min}$)(Spectral noise resistance) and 2H(Hurst exponent) represented the performance of epoxy coated steels. $R_n$ can be determined as the ratio of the standard deviations of potential and current noise signals and is decreased to exposure time. Data qualities can be easily checked by PSD(Power Spectral Density) plot and $V_{psd}$, $I_{psd}$ and $R_{sn}$($f_{min}$) is useful to research the protective performances and mechanisms of coated steels. Hurst exponent represents the degradation of coated steels. But, it is difficult to directly apply the protective criterion to the evaluation of epoxy coated steels used the shipbuilding processes.

Binary Image Watermarking for Preserving Feature Regions (특징영역을 보존한 이진영상의 워터마킹)

  • In this paper, an effective digital watermarking method for copyright protection of binary image data is proposed. First a binary image is grouped into feature regions which has geometrical features and general one. The watermark for authentication is embedded in general regions in order to preserve geometrical features regions. We have used run-length code and special runs for grouping feature regions and general one. For invisibility of watermark, we have embedded the watermark considering transition sensitivity of each pixel in general regions. The proposed method is applied some binary image such as character, signature, seal, and fingerprint image to evaluate performance. By the experimental results, the proposed method preserve feature regions of original image and have higher invisibility of watermarks.

Estimation of fire Experiment Prediction by Utility Tunnels Fire Experiment and Simulation (지하공동구 화재 실험 및 시뮬레이션에 의한 화재 설칠 예측 평가)

  • The utility tunnels are the important facility as a mainstay of country because of the latest communication developments. However, the utilities tunnel is difficult to deal with in case of a fire accident. When a cable burns, the black smoke containing poisonous gas will be reduced. This black smoke goes into the tunnel, and makes it difficult to extinguish the fire. Therefore, when there was a fire in the utility tunnel, the central nerves of the country had been paralyzed, such as property damage, communication interruption, in addition to inconvenience for people. This paper is based on the fire occurred in the past, and reenacting the fire by making the real utilities tunnel model. The aim of this paper is the scientific analysis of the character image of the fire, and the verification of each fire protection system whether it works well after process of setting up a fire protection system in the utilities tunnel at a constant temperature. The fire experiment was equipped with the linear heat detector, the fire door, the connection water spray system and the ventilation system in the utilities tunnel. Fixed portion of an electric power supply cable was coated with a fire retardant coating, and a heating tube was covered with a fireproof. The result showed that the highest temperature was $932^{\circ}c$ and the linear heat detector was working at the constant temperature, and it pointed at the place of the fire on the receiving board, and Fixed portion of the electric power supply cable coated with the fire retardant coating did not work as the fireproof. The heating tube was covered with the fireproof about 30 minutes.

Study on the Fire Risk Prediction Assessment due to Deterioration contact of combustible cables in Underground Common Utility Tunnels (지하공동구내 가연성케이블의 열화접촉으로 인한 화재위험성 예측평가)

  • Recent underground common utility tunnels are underground facilities for jointly accommodating more than 2 kinds of air-conditioning and heating facilities, vacuum dust collector, information processing cables as well as electricity, telecommunications, waterworks, city gas, sewerage system required when citizens live their daily lives and facilities responsible for the central function of the country but it is difficult to cope with fire accidents quickly and hard to enter into common utility tunnels to extinguish a fire due to toxic gases and smoke generated when various cables are burnt. Thus, in the event of a fire, not only the nerve center of the country is paralyzed such as significant property damage and loss of communication etc. but citizen inconveniences are caused. Therefore, noticing that most fires break out by a short circuit due to electrical works and degradation contact due to combustible cables as the main causes of fires in domestic and foreign common utility tunnels fire cases that have occurred so far, the purpose of this paper is to scientifically analyze the behavior of a fire by producing the model of actual common utility tunnels and reproducing the fire. A fire experiment was conducted in a state that line type fixed temperature detector, fire door, connection deluge set and ventilation equipment are installed in underground common utility tunnels and transmission power distribution cables are coated with fire proof paints in a certain section and heating pipes are fire proof covered. As a result, in the case of Type II, the maximum temperature was measured as $932^{\circ}C$ and line type fixed temperature detector displayed the fire location exactly in the receiver at a constant temperature. And transmission power distribution cables painted with fire proof paints in a certain section, the case of Type III, were found not to be fire resistant and fire proof covered heating pipes to be fire resistant for about 30 minutes. Also, fire simulation was carried out by entering fire load during a real fire test and as a result, the maximum temperature is $943^{\circ}C$, almost identical with $932^{\circ}C$ during a real fire test. Therefore, it is considered that fire behaviour can be predicted by conducting fire simulation only with common utility tunnels fire load and result values of heat release rate, height of the smoke layer, concentration of O2, CO, CO2 etc. obtained by simulation are determined to be applied as the values during a real fire experiment. In the future, it is expected that more reliable information on domestic underground common utility tunnels fire accidents can be provided and it will contribute to construction and maintenance repair effectively and systematically by analyzing and accumulating experimental data on domestic underground common utility tunnels fire accidents built in this study and fire cases continuously every year and complementing laws and regulations and administration manuals etc.

Characteristics of Combustion by Varying Different Coolant-temperature in a Hydrogen Engine for HALE UAV (고고도 무인기용 수소연료엔진의 냉각수 온도변화에 따른 연소 특성)

  • Using hydrogen fuel is expected to be suitable as a reciprocating internal combustion engine with heightened interest in HALE(High Altitude Long Endurance) UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). Hydrogen is hightest energy density per mass so it can continue to charge for long periods of time and have positive part of the environmental effects. However, it is estimated that there is less research on hydrogen fuel engine currently applied, and many studies need to be done. Depending on the operation, there are factors that result in supercooling due to reduced radiation or reduce cooling performance due to low air density. Therefore, the experiment was to change the temperature of the cooling water and investigate the effect on engine combustions. The limitation of the stable operation range due to backfire is dominated by the excess air ratio rather than the effect of the cooling water temperature change. When the cooling water temperature increases, the volumetric efficiency decreases and the torque decreases. As the cooling water temperature decreases, the heat loss was increased and consequently the thermal efficiency was decreased.

  • 철강은 기본적으로 강도가 우수하고 그 매장량이 풍부할 뿐만 아니라 대량생산이 가능하다 또한 다른 금속과 합금을 구성하여 또 다른 특성을 부여할 수 있기 때문에 현재 전 세계 금속 생산량의 95%를 차지할 정도로 많이 사용되며, 각종 산업과 기술이 발달함에 따라 그 중요도는 점점 더 커져가고 있다. 하지만 철강은 사용 환경 중 부식에 의해 그 수명과 성능이 급격히 저하되기 때문에 내식성을 향상시키기 위하여 도장이나 도금 등의 표면처리를 포함한 다양한 방법이 적용되고 있다. 그 중 철강재의 도금 표면처리방법은 주로 아연을 이용한 용융도금이나 전기도금 등과 같은 습식 프로세스가 널리 사용되고 있다. 여기서 아연은 철보다 이온화 경향은 크나 대기 환경 중 산소와 물과 반응하여 Zn(OH)2와 같은 화합물을 형성함으로써 철강재 표면상 부식인자를 차단(Barrier)함은 물론 사용 중 철 모재가 노출되는 결함이 발생하는 경우에는 철을 대신하여 희생양극(Sacrificial Anode) 역할을 하기 때문에 철의 부식방식용 금속으로 가장 많이 사용되고 있다. 한편 최근에는 철강의 사용 환경이 다양해짐은 물론 가혹해지고 있어서 이에 따른 내식성 향상이 계속해서 요구되고 있는 추세이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 철강재의 내식성을 향상시키기 위한 일환으로 현재 많이 사용되고 있는 용융아연도금 강판 상에 아연보다 활성이 높은 마그네슘(Mg)을 건식 프로세스 방법 중에 하나인 PVD(Physical Vapour Deposition)법에 의해 코팅하는 것을 시도하였다. 일반적으로 PVD법에 의해 진공증착하는 경우에는 그 도입가스로써 불활성가스인 아르곤(Ar)을 사용하는 경우가 대부분이나 여기서는 상대적으로 비활성이면서 그 크기가 작은 질소(N2)가스를 도입하여 그 증착 막의 몰포로지는 물론 결정구조도 제어하여 그 내식특성을 향상시키고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 철강재의 내식성을 향상시키기 위한 방법으로 마그네슘(Mg)를 PVD(Physical Vapor Deposition)법 중 진공증착법(Vacuum Deposition)을 사용하여 용융아연도금 강판 상에 마그네슘 증착 막을 형성하였다. 즉, 여기서는 진공증착 중 질소(Nitrogen, N2)가스를 도입하여 진공챔버(Vacuum Chamber)내의 진공도를 $1{\times}10^{-1}$, $1{\times}10^{-2}$, $1{\times}10^{-3}$, $1{\times}10^{-4}$로 조절하며 제작하였다. 또한 제작된 시편에 대해서는 SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) 및 XRD(X-Ray Diffraction)을 사용하여 형성된 아연도금상 마그네슘 막의 표면 몰포로지 및 결정구조의 변화를 분석함은 물론 침지시험, 염수분무시험, 분극시험을 통해 이 막들에 대한 내식특성을 분석 평가하였다. 상기 실험결과에 의하면, 진공 가스압이 증가됨에 따라 마그네슘 막의 두께는 감소하였으며, 그 몰포로지의 단면은 주상정(Columnar)에서 입상정(Granular) 구조로 변화하며 표면의 결정립은 점점 미세화 되는 경향을 나타냈다. 이때의 표면의 결정배향성(Crystal orientation)은 표면에너지가 상대적으로 큰 면이 우세하게 나타나는 경향이 있었다. 또한 본 실험에서 형성한 진공증착 막은 비교재인 용융아연도금강판보다 우수한 내식성을 나타냈고, 본 형성 막 중에는 마그네슘 막 두께가 작음에도 불구하고 질소 가스압이 가장 큰 조건일수록 내식성이 우수한 경향을 나타냈다. 이상의 결과는 철강재의 내식성 향상을 위한 응용표면처리설계에 기초적인 지침을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • MS(Mild Steel), HTS(High Tensile Steel), HYS(High Yield Steel), AL(Aluminum Alloy) and Composite Materials are used for vessels. Steel Materials are mostly used for vessels because body of a ship have to perform the basic functions such as watertight, preserving the strength and supporting the equipments. The vessels primarily carry out a mission at ocean, so that body of a ship is necessarily rusted. There are several methods to protect the corrosion of vessels such as painting, SACP(sacrificial anode cathodic protection) and ICCP(impressed current cathodic protection). For the sacrificial anode cathodic protection, Al and Zn alloys are normally used. Heavy metals are added to the Al and Zn Alloys for improving the corrosion properties but they are so harmful to the human and environment. Therefore, the use of these heavy metals is strictly regulated in the world. In this paper, Al and Zn Alloys are made by adding the trace elements(Ma, Ca, Ce and Sn) which is not harmful to the human and environment. SEM, XRD, Potentiodynamic Polarization test and Current Efficiency test are conducted for evaluation of Al and Zn Alloys. As a result of the experiment, Al-3Zn-0.6Sn and Zn-3Sn Alloys are more efficient than other Alloys.
