  • Due to rapid urbanization around the world, various social problems and side effects are occurring. Accordingly, the creation of smart city is being promoted to improve the quality of life of citizens and promote sustainable urban development. In Korea, visions and strategies for the creation of smart city have been presented for each ministry within the government. But they are proposed from the standpoint of each ministry, not from the national level. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a vision and core strategies at the national level. In this study, the problems of Korea smart city were derived, and a smart city vision was established as a solution. In addition, STEEP analysis was conducted through Korea and overseas smart city status analysis and literature review, and based on this, CLDs (Causal Loop Diagrams) were drawn up to derive major smart city strategies. The smart city vision and major strategies proposed in this study are expected to be helpful in setting the direction for future successful smart city creation.

  • The purpose of this study is to diagnose problems by analyzing the status of system and user in order to activate the Urban Planning Information System(UPIS). The UPIS has been distributed to all local governments through pilot and expansion projects since 2003 to utilize spatial information in urban planning and administration. The original purpose was to use GIS to support planning and to support scientific decision making, but now the main task is to designate and manage zoning districts related to land use. Therefore, the UPIS is responsible for the production (preparation procedure) and management of the local district information for use in the Korea land use information system, which is an upper concept defined by the law, but it is evaluated that its identity is ambiguous and utilization rate is low. This study is conducted to investigate the four aspects (business process, database, system, citizen service) of UPIS, and suggest concrete improvement measures. To summarize, each individual system exists in the Korea land use information system, but they all share similar data and have a linked work flow. Therefore, we suggested that the DB current plan should be established to improve the reliability of data and to redefine the business process around the UPIS.

  • There is growing significance in securing urban parks and enhancing their accessibility due to irrational residential developments and apartment construction. Accordingly, Daejeon Metropolitan City has carried out urban park management projects to improve the quality of parks and create new parks. Daejeon Metropolitan City generates and manages park data for the purpose of management by the administrative district. However, these datasets take different forms in each administrative district. This study integrates the park data in Daejeon, generated by administrative districts, into the same format and generates geographic information data with the area information of each park for analysis. Analysis results show that urban parks are severely imbalanced across administrative districts, requiring new policy measures. In addition, by normalizing the park analysis results and, then, creating their rankings, this study compares them with the actual park information in detail to confirm the soundness of the dataset. The analysis results provide implications to improve the management of urban parks. This study proposes integrated datasets and the continued management of them in each administrative district by including essential data that can feature the objective information of the parks along with park evaluation indicators based on previous studies.

  • The dissemination of commercial satellite images. which have the high spatial resolution such as aerial photos, are the active trend in remote sensing community because of the recent development in satellite and sensor technology. Such high resolution satellite images provide a unique tool for the monitoring of ongoing urban land use change. Especially KOMPSAT-1, which was launched at December 1999 and successfully operated up to now, provides repeatedly panchromatic images over Korean peninsula, which has the spatial resolution of 6.6m. Based upon this KOMPSAT-1 EOC image data we can try to analyze and assess the temporal urban land use change, which could not be done because lack of such data. The aim of this paper is to analyze and assess the spatial land use characteristics of Daejeon Metropolitan City based on KOMPSAT-1 EOC data. The land use map of year 2001 is generated through the modification of the year 2000 land use map, which is published by National Geographic Information Institute, using visual interpretation of KOMPSAT-1 EOC image which is acquired in year 2001. This study can be the start point of the time series analysis of the long term land use change monitoring mit KOMPSAT-1 EOC data.
