Historically, the Industrial Revolution has always had a significant impact on the function and form of cities, so it is very necessary for modern Christianity to establish the right cultural perspective in urban settings and seek ways to contribute socially in the public domain. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find the right role of Christianity in new urban spaces and structures based on the following three questions. Third, what role should Christianity in the city play for co-prosperity and community? In response to the third question, the study presented the following applications: First, it is necessary to restore and practice Christian civic culture. Second, Christianity should also take the lead in restoring morality in the market economy. Third, it is necessary to implement Christian values beyond caring and charity. Fourth, the church needs a role and cooperation as a civil society that restores humanity and faith.

  • The idea of global cities were widespread in the 20th century, but now in the 21st century the paradigm has changed into creative cities. They are trying to develop the creative contents in which economy and culture are connected to promote their global competitiveness. This thesis focuses on the three main points represented in the projects of publishing journals of Namyangju city. Firstly, the project held 'community-based lectures of humanities,' and 'literary contest' to induce participation of the citizens. The results of the events, however, were not successful because of the narrow extent of creative groups of the city and not enough campaign of the city. Secondly, there was the education of citizens to promote their participation, as they are so much the main parts of publishing journals that theory and practice of reporting on their own is essential. Thirdly, the project committee established citizen publishing committee and encouraged them to do their parts at each department. As a result, citizens succeeded in building cultural infrastructure for shaping the creative city and had the initiative to publish journals about masters, masterpieces, and attractions in Namyangju city. The city and the citizens should practice the culture contents projects in both sides' cooperation.

The truth is that the improvement of residential environment in this country has resulted in high-rise apartment buildings of the same form, without regard for vestiges of previous residents and regional characteristics. If redevelopment should be continued in a proper way to improve the right to adequate housing, a new form of urban design will be required, solving existing problems. For this, the cultural and ecological elements of the redevelopment site to be conserved and developed should be found and designed. Consequently, this study focuses on the cases of domestic and overseas urban design that cultural and ecological elements have been applied to redevelopment, and suggests Hwamyeong-dong, a deteriorated area in Busan, to design from a cultural and ecological point of view.

  • As city tourism has recently been evaluated as a major indicator of urban competitiveness, strengthening the role of cities as tourist destinations has received more attention. However, industrialization and urbanization of many cities lead to population decline, extinction of traditional industries, and deterioration of living environments, weakening urban functions and competitiveness. Thus, it is essential for declining cities to build a measure to restore urban competitiveness by enhancing urban functions. Accordingly, this study focused on socio-cultural urban regeneration by exploring physical spaces for tourism destinations in declining cities. Different from general tourist destinations, tourism destinations of urban regeneration have a temporal perspective covering the past, present, and future. How does the temporal perspective of urban regeneration tourist destinations affect tourists' satisfaction and behavioral intention? In order to address these questions, this study conducts an empirical analysis based on structural equation modeling (SEM) using the sample of tourists who have visited urban regeneration tourism destinations. With SEM, this paper investigates structural relationships across variables by testing the hypothesis established in the proposed research model. The results show that precious memories of the past are the most important factor for tourists to visit urban regeneration tourist destinations. The empirical findings of this study will contribute to the research areas of urban tourism, urban regeneration tourism, and urban regeneration tourism destinations. In addition, this study can provide practical implications to develop socio-cultural contents of urban regeneration areas as tourism resources to establish plans for urban regeneration projects and achieve sustainable development strategies.
