Overview and Suggestions on the Direction Guidance System on Traffic Sign in Suwon City (도로안내표지의 안내지명 체계에 관한 실태분석 및 개선방안)

  • Recently, there are increasing needs to provide sufficient information on road signs for expanding cities and traffic networks. Improving efficiency of direction guidance information from road signs not only requires criteria for but also systematic approach to selecting place names that appear on road sings. As such, this paper looks at road direction information from existing road signs that leads to Suwon and investigates whether the current system of road sings provides efficient, systematic and continuous direction information for road users to easily reach their destination. In this paper, Suwon's city hall is set up as the final destination, which is linked from five other cities, Euiwang, Ansan, Hwaseong, Osan and Yongin. The paper attempts to find out whether there is continuity and suitable number of road signs for direction information by analyzing the road signs between these 5 cities and Suwon with respect to direction, direction advance notice and direction guidance. It is found that road users cannot easily find the needed information on their destination from the existing road signs and that continuity of selected place names that systematically appear on road signs is insufficiency. That is to say, the findings of the paper are that while it is easy for road users to find place names that are classified under land marks or the first-class selection of place names on road signs, it is difficult to obtain information from road signs on place names that are grouped under the second or third class. In addition, direction guidance on road signs is problematic, because the appearance frequency of road signs is not adequate and the continuity of road signs is not effective. Moreover, there is insufficient information on local direction guidance for immediate destinations on road signs with respect to turning left or right or going straight. Hence road signs in urban area need systematic improvement to find easily some destination.

  • As the quality of life grows, the role of cultural facilities in urban areas is becoming more important. However, due to various reasons, the location of these facilities shows the geographical imbalance between urban regions. Even though provision of road network can improve this kind of urban problem, in many countries, the provision of urban infrastructure plays a role which is magnifies the cultural gap between regions and socio-economic classes. The findings of this study are as follows. First of all, the inequality of accessibility to cultural facilities is shown over the period. Cross-sectional data shows that the higher the income of a region, the higher the accessibility index(AI) of the zone to cultural facilities at any time. Next, the provision of road network contributes the improvement of AI of high income region. Finally the provision of new facilities has a tendency that these kind of facilities are located to make AI of high income zone better. It means that the decision making by city government intensifies the geographical inequality. This result would be very useful in the decision making process for determining the number and the location of cultural facilities and other similar urban infrastructure as well. Also it will be helpful for the selection of optimal location which considered not only physical distances but also social equalities.

  • 최근 도시화에 따른 도로구역의 증가는 도심지의 불투수면적의 확대 및 도로의 수로화를 야기하여 집중호우 발생 시 노면 및 저지대의 침수를 가중시키고 있으며, 이로 인한 인명피해 및 재산 피해는 점차 증가하는 추세이다. 이에 기후변화에 따른 강우량의 변화 및 국지성 집중호우 등을 고려하고 도심지 침수 방지 및 방재성능 강화를 위하여 과거에 간선 10년, 지선 5년에서 간선 30년, 지선 10년으로 관거의 설계빈도가 상향조정 되었다. 도심지의 도로 및 유역 유출량의 배수에 상당한 영향을 미치는 빗물받이 및 빗물받이 유입구는 도심지의 방재성능강화 목적에 맞는 설계가 이루어져야 하나 현재 국내의 빗물받이 설치기준은 하수도시설기준(2009, 환경부)에서 '빗물받이 크기별, 도로 차선별 적정 빗물받이 설치간격' 으로 설계빈도 5년을 반영하여 제시된 설치기준이므로 이에 대한 수정 및 개정이 필요한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 관거시설의 설계빈도 상향을 고려한 도로 빗물받이의 유입량 산정을 위해 빗물받이 유입구 크기별 유입량을 도로의 차선, 종경사, 측구 횡경사 및 설계빈도의 변화를 고려하여 도로에서의 유출량을 산정하였으며, Froude 상사법칙을 이용하여 수리실험모형을 제작하여 실험을 실시하였다. 빗물받이 제원은 현재 대부분의 국도에 설치되는 크기인 $40{\times}50cm$, $40{\times}100cm$$40{\times}150cm$를 축소 제작하였다. 측구의 유량은 도로의 차선(2~4차선), 경사(도로 종경사 2~10%, 측구 횡경사 2~10%) 및 설계빈도(최대 30년)을 고려하였다. 실험 결과 측구의 횡경사가 커질수록 빗물받이로 유입되는 유량은 증가하였으며, 빗물받이 유입부의 길이가 증가함에 따라 유입부 측면부를 통한 횡유입량을 증가시켜 빗물받이 유입부의 차집율을 증가시켰다. 또한, 도로의 조건 변화 및 유입량의 변화에 따라서 흐름폭이 감소할수록 차집율이 증가하였다. 수리실험결과를 토대로 도로의 조건변화(차선, 도로 종경사, 측구 횡경사) 및 설계빈도 변화를 고려한 빗물받이의 차집율을 제시하였고 이를 회귀분석 하여 빗물받이 유입구 크기별 유입량 산정식을 도출하였다. 이는 설계빈도 상향에 따른 국내 빗물받이 유입부의 설계 기준 제시에 기초자료로 활용이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

  • During practices of traffic management, the performance achieved was determined by traffic practitioners' ability of decision and knowledge as well as traffic equipments assisting the practitioners. Therefore, sometimes self-evaluations done by the traffic practitioners in a specific traffic organization can be used to indirectly evaluate the traffic management organization. The present paper is to evaluate a specific highway agency using self-evaluations performed among different highway agencies including one Japanese highway agency. The result indicated that the agency is superior to other agencies in characteristics such as performance, activity, preparation for the future, and customer orientation. For more detailed-branch based study, the responders were divided into their belonged branches like headquarter, regional headquarter, maintenance office and research center. The results provided that various deficiencies of traffic management were found and could be improved in the future.

A Study on Arterial Road Network Improvement Based on Networking Analysis (Networking 기반의 간선도로의 망기능 분석방법론 연구)

  • The present study proposed a methodology to analyze the networking efficiency of arterial road networks. The methodology was motivated to design three-dimensional networks and to analyze the networking ability quantitatively, which is a novel approach compared to existing methods depending on the two-dimensional network definition and the qualitative analysis for improving arterial road networks. The method considered the interdependence between high-level freeways and low-level highways, the ITS-based information for traffic and road conditions, and the physical networking. These three factors were quantified by a networking index (NI), and the networking efficiency was measured by a networking rate (NR). The present study proved that the networking efficiency (NR) was influenced by travel information sharing (i.e., ITS) and physical factors. This supports the fact that the integrated improvements of physical and ITS factors are necessary for an arterial road. The proposed method was applied for an actual arterial road network. It was found that the nation-wide NR was higher than that for the metropolitan area, which might be due to the difficulty in switching between high- and low-level networks and the lack of ITS functions in the metropolitan area.

  • VMS which provides information about real-time traffic situation to the drivers is operating 41 places in 204km section at 2003 present time. Contrary to VMS which is constructed in freeway or highway, VMS in Roadway is increasing the demand of relocating according to development of environment. However there is not any definite standard for ITS field devices' relocating. That would be many problem such as re-relocating in the near future. This study presents optimal VMS relocating methodology using the concept of Decision Problem considering budget and number of drivers given information.

A Path-Volume Simulation Method to Select Arterial Section of Road Network (경로 교통량 시뮬레이션 기법을 이용한 간선구간 설정 방법론 연구)

  • In this study, the purpose behind this research is to propose index to be used for classification of functional the urban streets and to select the feasible length of special management link by the index. This special management link help decision makers found a transportation policy. In order to perform functional classification, index such as average traveled distance, link VKT and VKT per length-lane are use at the study. Average traveled distance index is average traveled distance divided by length of Path k and VKT per length-lane is trip volume characteristic considering lanes and length of Path k. Special management links on which major part of the vehicle are selected with using Path-VKT which represents how many long-distance touring vehicles are on the arterial road. The selection of special management links are performed with network composed of 14 paths (arterial roads) in seoul The total distance of special management links resulted from the above analysis is 141km(35.0% of the whole paths length) and total VKT of the special management links is 4,152,475 VKT(45.2% of the whole paths VKT)

철도의 환경 친화성 분석에 대한 연구;대기오염물질 배출량 및 에너지 소비율 중심으로

  • 1. 철도, 도로, 항공, 해운 등 교통수단별 현황을 조사한 결과, 현재까지의 교통정책이 도로교통 우선 위주였기 때문에 철도는 뛰어난 환경성 및 경제성을 가지고 있음에도 불구하고 수송분담율이 비교적 저조한 편이었다. 그러나, 향후 정부의 사회기반시설 구축에 있어서 국가 기간 철도망 확대와 대도시 지하철 및 경량전철 건설을 통한 도심철도망과 간선철도망의 연결 등을 통하여 철도의 이용이 훨씬 용이해질 것으로 보이며 이에 따라 철도의 이용률도 크게 상승할 것으로 예상된다. 2. 교통수단별 일반현황은 다음과 같다. 1) 철도교통은 여객수송량이 다소 증가하고 있는 추세였는데, 2004년 KTX의 개통으로 인하여 여객수송량이 급증하였으나, 화물수송은 약간 감소하는 추세이다. 2) 도로교통은 공로의 경우 이용량이 크게 감소하고 있으나, 자가용의 경우에는 승용차의 급증에 의하여 도로의 분담률이 증가하고 있다. 그러나, 도로망의 확충이 자동차의 증가량을 따르지 못하는 것과 자동차가 도시에 밀집됨에 따른 교통체증에 따라 자가용 차량의 1일 평균 주행거리가 짧아지는 등 수송량이 크게 증가하지는 않고 있다. 3. 각 교통수단별 환경경제성을 조사한 결과는 다음과 같았다. 1) 단위수송량당 에너지 소비율은 여객의 경우 철도가 75.97kcal/인 km에 불과한 반면에 버스는 415.43, 택시는 1,192.24kcal/인 km에 달하여 각각 철도의 5.5배 및 15.7배나 많은 에너지를 소비하는 것으로 나타났다. 화물의 경우에도 철도는 105.98kcal/톤 km에 불과한 반면에 도로는 1,674.21kcal/톤 km에 달하여 철도의 무려 15.8배의 에너지를 사용하는 것으로 나타나, 철도가 에너지 효율성 면에서 도로 교통수단보다 월등히 앞서는 친환경적이면서 경제적인 교통수단임을 알 수 있다. 2) 도로와 철도의 단위수송량 당 CO의 배출량은 도로가 1,531.2kg/백만인 km로 철도의 167.4kg/백만인 km에 비하여 9배나 되었다. 그러나, 탄화수소의 경우는 도로가 216.5kg/백만인 km으로 철도의 68.0kg/백만인 km의 3배를 넘는다. 미세먼지의 경우는 도로가 철도보다 약간 더 많은 수준이었으나, NOx와 $SO_2$는 오히려 철도가 오히려 약간 더 높게 나타났다.

A Study on the Application Technology of Multi-dimensional Urban geo-spatial Simulation using Digital Image (디지털 영상의 다차원 도시공간 시뮬레이션 적용기술연구)

  • The technique of birdeye image generation of terrain through the use of satellite digital images and digital maps are very important elements and have applications in planning establishment as well as the actual design of several construction work in complex fields. This paper studies stereo perspective image generation as a possibility through 3-dimensional analysis combined with digital elevation data and remotely sensed images. For this, first of all, ortho-images generated by very accurate GCP and DEM from contour file makes 3-dimensional terrain analysis possible and allows stereo-viewing at the highway construction planning sites. So, we developed the technical methods for the 3-dimensional approach on the planning sites of highways by use of perspective orthoimages. From this research diverse terrain analysis is possible through stereo perspective image generation, and can leads to various application in road construction through gain study results from access to realtime virtual spatial on the objects area in korea.
