The purpose of this study is to investigate the selection mechanism of the Science Citation Index(SCI) in domestic journals. Analysis has been carried out specially on the \"Journal of the Korean Nuclear Society\", which is a leading journal in the nuclear field in Korea. It is published in English and meets the basic standards of technical journal, however, does not meet the SCI selection criteria in many aspects. Major problems are; 1) Small number of research institutes and universities submit articles to the journal. 2) The impact factor is 0.097, far less than 0.764, the average value of SCI, and the rate of self-citation approaches only to 50%. 3) The journal is not distributed to the libraries in universities and research institutes that have nuclear engineering programs in foreign countries. 4) It does not have editor from international communities, only domestic editors serve for the journal. The study made recommendations for ways to be selected by SCI and utilization of this study for selection criteria of SCI.

The purpose of the study is to build a general cost a counting model for university libraries, to clarify the possible areas of its a n.0, pplication by employing job cost accounting and process cost accounting methods. System analysis is performed as to the fields of acquisition, processing (cataloging & classification), and book shelving system. The existing operation processes and time required for each operation of these three systems are analyzed, from which detailed system flowcharts were drawn and job descriptions and the content of job were identified. Public library legislation is the essential means of providing for all the citizen in modern society with a standard public library service. We can trace the origin of that back to the Public Libraries Act 1850 in England. This paper is reviewing all the measures concerning public libraries of England since then in order to find out some guidelines for revision of the Korean Library Law enacted in 1963. Although Public Libraries Act 1850 was an output of a series of social reform movement in the 19th century, it established first the provision of public library service su n.0, pported by public funds. However the Act had several restrictions hindering public library service from making progress. These are: 1. Adoptive legislation in nature 2. Limitation of the size of population and rate income 3. Small library authorities 4. Procedure for adoption by public meeting 5. Restrictions on the ways in which rate income might be spent 6. No governmental organization to direct or control for a standardized public library service 7. No cooperative schemes among libraries. Subsequent development was directed largely to removal of those limitations. The present Public Libraries Act 1964 as a model of public library legislation was enacted on the basis of such reports as Kenyon, McColvin, Roberts, and Bourdillon. All but the problem of small library authorities were removed with this new Act. The final object could be achieved by the Local Government Act 1974 which reorganized existing 383 small authorities into new 115 ones the average population of which was 280, 000. Now, McColvin's dream of 30 years could be fulfilled in the late 70's. He argued that the minimum size of population of a viable authority should be 300, 000. Although the effect of the 1964 Act on the development of public library services in England was great, there must be some considerations as to the provisions of public library objective, government funding for library services, free use of library materials to all regardless of residence, and placement of library committee within the authority.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the search pattern and search outcome of the National Central Library OPAC users by measuring their success rates and identifying the factors of failure and the personal background which bring about the differences of the search outcome. Various methods have been used for the study. Personal interview was used to find the pattern of the search, observation method was used to investigate the search process and the failure factors, and a questionnaire was used to survey personal background of searchers. The data were collected during the period of 7 days from April 17, 1995 through April 23, 1995. The search of 1, 217 cases, sampling systematically 25% out of the whole users, were collected and analyzed for the study. The findings of the study can be summarized as follows : First, in regard to the pattern, known-item search(72.6%) was preferred to the subject search(27.4%) and in case of known-item search the access point used were in the order of title, author, title and author. Second, the overall success rate of known-item search was 50.3% and the success rates were in order of author and date, title, and author. The failure factors of known-item search were divided into users factor of 67% and the database factor of 33%, respectively. Third, in case of subject search, its overall success rate was 44.1% and the keyword was the major access point, and the average of precision ratio was very low. Fourth, the analysis of the personal background related to the search outcome has shown significant differences by sex, the experience of using OPAC, education level, and the frequency of using other information retrieval systems. Based on the results the following suggestions can be made to improve the search outcome : First, the system should be su n.0, pplemented online help function to assist users to overcome the failure during search. Second, user instruction in group or individual should be implemented for the users to understand the system.

This study intends to 1)conform the possibility to transform the enumerated scheme into the faceted scheme, 2)review general theories on facet structure employed in DDC 780, and 3) analyze the facet structure of music. Findings are 1) The facet structure of DDC synthesize the standard subdivisions or specific facet indicators with basic facet. 2) facet indicator 0 is in use to indicate standard subdivision or general principle of music. and facet indicator 1 to general principles and musical forms. DDC has transformed the entire system into the facet structure through its revisions. Especially the music transformed into the facet structure employes the facet indicators and applies them to all the systems in music. But the notation have sometimes twofold meanings, and no ability to differentiate the meanings in the same notation.

It has been observed that the purpose of education is poorly coordinated with the school library. Consequently a healthy growth of the library has been very rare, and educational process has been rather inefficient. Therefore this study attempts to define the role of a school library and the necessasity of its growth, examine principals' concepts of the library, find out the adverse causes for its growth, and make some suggestions to rectify them. A questionnaire was designed to get information on the principals' conceptions about the nature and the role of a school library, a librarian, and adverse causes for the growth of the library. This study is largely based on the analysis of this questionnaire. The results of this study may be summarized as. follows: 1) The school library is not generally considered as the center of educational activities. It is rather variously regarded as a subsidiary organization for education, a place where reading materials are offered, a place where books are kept, or a reading room. 2) This was largely due to the misconceptions of the principals as to the true nature and the role of the school library. 3) The degrees of their misconceptions varied depending on the amount of their exposure to the library science. Those principals who studied library science more hours had better understanding of the library. 4) Although the principals showed rather much concern for the library, the school library was not up to the expectation largely due to their misconception of it. 5) Most of the principals felt that they needed more knowledge on library science to carry out their job. This feeling was stronger for those who spent more hours in a library science course. 6) Most of the principals wanted to offer a position for a dual function: a librarian and a teacher. This was largely due to their lack of knowledge as to the duties of a librarian-which were considered as secondary to the duties of a teacher. 7) The majority of the principals thought the librarians were not paid well enough, but some of the principals o n.0, pposed their pay raise. The former generally took more courses in library science than the latter. 8) Many principals agreed that the adverse causes for the growth of the school library originated from the regional or governmental school authorities. This seemed to indicate that the legal requirements for the library were inadequate and that there was no administrative organization to take care of the library. 9) Most of the principals considered the insufficient funds as the major reason for the present poor condition of the library. But considering the fact that some libraries are better equi n.0, pped that others, financial matter cannot be the deciding factor. It rather seemed that there is some serious problems in the current educational system. For further studies in this field and for the libraries to function properly, the following suggestions are made here: 1) The major adverse cause for the healthy growth of the school library was found in the misconceptions on the school library by the principals, and these misconceptions were largely due to their lack of knowledge. Therefore they should be given more o n.0, pportunities to take courses in library science. 2) The librarian should not be overburdened with other duties than what his job duly calls for, and they should be properly compensated for their own job. They should also be encouraged to grow as librarians. 3) Education itself should be improved so that the library becomes the center of learning. 4) An administrative department should be created to oversee the school libraries, and legal measures should be enacted for better school libraries. 5) Financial su n.0, pport should be provided for a period of time in order to upgrade the school library to a certain level. Finally it is strongly felt that more detailed and inclusive studies in this field should be carried on and further experimental studies should be done.

In ordinary modern wester expression 'the Renaissance' was used to denote the impact made by dead Hellenism civilization in western Christendom, particularly Italian literary and artistic movement at Northern and central Italy in the late medieval period. However, A.J. Toynbee examined the renaissance from the different aspect of view. In his great work "A Study of History" in vol. IX, he succeeded in establishing the theory of historic civilization encounters in space and in time; and in time, civilization of the present and the past or between dead and infant successor contacts on the analogy of parenthood and sonship in the relation of A n.0, pparentation-and-Affiliation. The distinguished his view of 'Renaissance' was illustrated in the sense of encounters between a grown-up civilization and the 'ghost' of its long-dead predecessor. The renaissances (by the process of evocation of ghost of its parent society) has not only one single aspect of literary and artistic field but also in politics, law, science and philosophy, languages and literatures and visual arts, and religion. The main theme of this study is to examine the development of libraries and its historical meaning through Toynbee's literary renaissance. His renaissance of Languages and Literatures has three typical steps: They are: 1st step-to restive the dead literature's remains: 2nd step-to remaster their meaning: 3rd step-to reproduce them in counterfeits... Through its first and second steps, collecting and editing, annotating by compiling an anthology, thesaurus, lexicon or encyclopedia, and in its third step publishing mostly imitation of classics took place. Toynbee depicted the five outstanding eminent representatives of literary renaissance who had a n.0, ppeared on the state of history down to the time of writing. They are: Assurbanipal, Constantine prophyrogenitus, Yung Lo, K'ang Hsi, and Ch'ien Lung and the last four had all been emperors of imperia rediviva. As the result of the examination of these five emperors with three steps of literary renaissance, the common result may be summarized as follows: 1. Those emperors of imperia rediviva interested in intellectual work and study, they also were deeply involved in collecting classics in an ostensible reason. 2. There were strong political intention of collecting materials as an a n.0, ppeasement policy of civilization by transferring scholars energies to an intellectual field. 3. Under the rulers of a resuscitated universal state, the literary renaissance were a product of political plane and that the total size of collection and work were huge. 4. Since there were strong exercise of sovereign power, an active censorship by distortion and elimination was inevitable. 5. There existed newly developed strained atmosphere between grown-up and long-dead parent civilization, whenever the book collection movement had occurred. 6. Over adhesion to the parent civilization caused imitation of classic work and the creative activities were stagnated.stagnated.

This study is a survey of collection development policies in the 40 university libraries among 42 in Korea as of 1984. The survey used a questionnaire with 36 questions concerning the basic elements of the collection development policy. The survey results revealed many problems demanding correction. The measures to correct the problems in the university libraries are as follows. 1. It is desirable that the libraries should have a collection development policy statement written and adopted for the systematic collection building. 2. It is advisable that the libraries should include a function of the materials selection among other various functions of the Library Committee for the purpose of informing administrators of the goals of the libraries and the validity of the budgetary allocation. 3. It is desirable that each library should organize the Collection Development Committee for minimizing the possibility of personal bias on the part of the individual selectors. 4. It is advisable that the primary responsibility for materials selection should be delegated as follows: for the materials for faculty research, to the faculty members; for the other collections, to the professional staff of each department; for the final review of whether or not to purchase, to the Collection Development Committee. 5. It is desirable for the purchase priority of materials to be set up in accordance with the order of 6 levels of collection development. 6. It is advisable that the libraries should, as top priority, purchase materials in direct su n.0, pport of the undergraduate and graduate academic programs, and in subject matter areas other than languages and literature, Korean materials should have not only the higher priority than the foreign language materials, but also maintain the comprehensive collection level. 7. It is desirable that the special collections should be purchased by special funds from the authority, and the special collections librarian should have the responsibility of the materials selection under the advice of the faculty members relating to the subject area. 8. It is advisable that duplicate copies should be bought only for high use items, but for reserve books, by the program enrollment, and textbooks should not be bought in general, except as su n.0, pplemental materials for course work in which they are necessary and heavily used. 9. It is reasonable that the material budget should be distributed as follows: by the ratio for distributing funds, about 60-70% for the library and 30-40% for departments; by the type of materials, about 50% for books, 40% for periodicals and 10% for other materials, or when not bought other materials, about 50-60% for books and 40-50% for periodicals. In addition, it is desirable that undergraduate class enrollment, graduate class enrollment, undergraduate majors, graduate majors, average book cost in the discipline, number of faculty, and use rate by subject should be considered as the factors for the allocation of funds by department, and special consideration should be given to newly-founded departments so the library holdings can be adequate to su n.0, pport them.

Through this study, some considerations to be taken into account in order to construct the user model for the user friendly system which can provide each individuals user armed with varied intellectual level with the relevant information, can be summarized as follows : (1) The user' ability to use the system and users' subject knowledge, the distribution of the users' level knowledge should be considered for the decision of the typed of interaction between the users and the system. (2) the knowledge of the user models should include the following kinds of knowledge inharmony with one another, 1. Standard user knowledge which represents a general characteristic of user group, 2. individual user knowledge which represents an individual's unique characteristic, 3. Long-term user knowledge which represents the education level and subject background of users, 4. short-term user knowledge which represents the purpose of information science and information need by users (3) As knowledge generation technique, both the implicit method and explicit method should be a n.0, pplied, observation of the system during the interaction, and explicit method generates the knowledge by the user's answering the questions already made by the system. (4) The frame technique as the knowledge representation for the user-modelling in which user-knowledge is represented in a limited situation and in a qualitative aspects, can be recommended. The frame is adequated for the explanation of structured situation, and for the processing the present situation by inferring the previous experiences.
Purpose: This study attempts to find how the cultural marketing activities utilizing cultural space affect firm's brand image and brand loyalty, and whether this culture marketing technique is recognized as a social contribution activity by potential customers and thereby influence brand image and loyalty. Methods: The data was collected by using the structured questionnaires to consumers who have experience using the Naver Library, Starfield Library, and Hyundai Card Library. The proposed research model is tested using 178 valid questionnaires using Smart PLS 2.0. Results: This research indicated that among cultural marketing factors, cultural support and cultural promotion have little impact on brand image, whereas culture firm influence brand image. Brand image also had an impact on brand loyalty, but it was found that public libraries operated by companies were not recognized as corporate social contribution activities, nor did they have an impact on the formation of the company's brand image. Conclusions: The study offered a theoretical and empirical foundation for future research by empirically identifying the relationship between cultural marketing and brand image and loyalty and confirmed the coordinating effect of social contribution activities between a cultural firm and its brand image.
