  • The ecosystem of the Library has been radically changing in the advent of ubiquitous information service technology. We are already aware of the digital library due to popularizing digital information resources and we are impressed with Library 2.0 and Social Semantic Digital Library of user-centered, service-oriented library. We summarize the ultimate goal of the evolution of library systems as knowledge services and propose a logical model of library system for the realization of knowledge services. This local model can be applied for a library framework to harmonize the diverse knowledge resources, active users with participation and collaboration, the innovation of library business and ubiquitous information service technologies to achieve the missions of library in knowledge-intensive society.

  • 지난 8월 16일에서 24일까지 영국 글래스고에서 개최된 제68차 국제도서관협회연맹 대회 총회에서는 '도서관, 정보서비스 기관, 지적 자유에 관한 글래스고 선언(The Glasgow Declaration Libraries, Information Services and Intellectual Freedom, 원문은 http://www.ifla.org/faife/policy/iflastat/gldeclar-e.html 참조)'과 'IFLA 인터넷 설명서(The IFLA Internet Manifesto, 원문은 http://www.ifla.org/III/misc/internetmanif.htm 참조)'가 채택되었다.

  • This study focused on current status of Korean public library services for people with intellectual disabilities, as well as problems associated with managing the services, in order to suggest future directions for implementation. To analyze the current status, the researcher conducted a case study of current Korean public library services for people with intellectual disabilities. This research also conducted a focus group interview with librarians experienced in providing such services. The results show that the services are provided with the support of a community welfare center, in the form of a program over short periods of time. The librarians agreed on the appropriateness of the services but emphasized various difficulties associated with service management. Based on the results, we suggest possible points of consideration, including support for increased funding, more qualified personnel, adequate policies, and development of a model service for people with intellectual disabilities.

  • There has been almost studies focused on public library in the provision of the use and needs of library services for persons with disability. However, the number of disabled students are rising steadily in university library. So university libraries must make reasonable efforts to give disabled people the same access to information, programs and resources enjoyed by those who are not disabled. The study result showed that despite most university library already is recognized the necessity offering service for disabled, however, due to lack of understanding of services for disabled, legal standards rather than to have made only partial support to them. Therefore, librarians for the disabled in every sector(library-related organizations, groups, and association) have to play an important role in policies and financial support them. Also, active guidance and public relations about library services, improvement of accessibility for the disabled by using homepage, and the arrangement of librarians for the disabled and education for them should be supported for improving library services for the disabled student.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes and developments in the administrative system, status, and role of public libraries in our country, and to analyze the spatial composition status according to the inter-cooperation system of public libraries located in Gwangju Metropolitan City. For this purpose, the study referenced the required space and area standards according to the status and role presented in the 2022 Public Library Construction and Operation Manual. Floor plan analysis and spatial composition analysis were conducted on the central libraries of the five districts in Gwangju Metropolitan City. The analysis results revealed redundancies and inefficiencies in the spatial composition of public libraries with similar purposes. It was found that securing the area of public libraries according to the hierarchy of administrative districts is necessary to provide smooth library services to local residents. Additionally, with the opening of the representative library in Gwangju Metropolitan City, the reconfiguration of the existing central library spaces was deemed necessary. This study can be used as a foundational resource for the efficient operation and construction of public libraries in the future.

  • This paper aims to seek ways of optimizing the operations of Collaborative Digital Reference Service(CDRS) in Korea. CDRS tries to specialize the reference service through world-wide collaborative service. In this study seven international CDRS services including "QuestionPoint" operated by ALA and one national service, "Ask a Librarian" by the National Library of Korea were surveyed. A focused analysis of CDRS in Korea shows not only a sharp increase in use by the public, but also much application in research and academic activities by university students and workers.
