  • This research aims to explore the possibility of open source software for creating digital archives of small organizations or ordinary people that run short of budget and professional workforce and may easily create digital archives without the help of a professional. To do so, this study suggested three open source software, AtoM, ArchivesSpace, and Omeka, for such use, and conducted usability tests with system designers and users who had no experience with open source software. The results of the usability testing was that AtoM, which was developed to support the records management system and user services of small organizations, proved satisfactory to both system designers and users. ArchivesSpace had too many required fields with it to create archives. Omeka greatly satisfied the system designers because it is possible to create archives with simple inputs on the item level. However, Omeka, which focuses on exhibition functions while neglecting search functions, registered low satisfaction among the users. Based on the results of the usability testing, this study suggested selection criteria of open source software for small organizations or ordinary individuals, namely, purposes, license, characteristics, service creation environment, advantages and disadvantages, functions, metadata, file type, and interoperability.

  • This study presented the factor analysis on constructing the new factors affecting the middle school students' online learning behaviors from the questionnaires employed among middle school students. A total of 204 students participated and the data were collected in South Korea. The sample of middle school ninth-grade students was selected and used through purposive sampling. Findings from the factor analysis provided evidence for the eight-factor solution for the 35-items accounting for 66.15% of the shared variance. A wide range of factors has been considered to identify students' online learning behaviors. The appropriate experience and use of e-learning in the middle school period is also important as it will be a critical stepstone for future education. This research provides information that has been taken into account for advancing online learning to enhance the quality of e-learning systems for middle school students. The study results provided eight new factors affecting the middle school students' online learning behaviors; that is 1) communication using social media as a learning tool, 2) intention to share information using ICT, 3) addiction of technology, 4) adoption of technology, 5) seeking information using ICT, 6) use of social media learning, 7) information search using ICT, and 8) immersion of technology. This study confirmed that middle school students prefer communication using social media as a learning tool, and value intention to share information using ICT for the most part. The data obtained based on factor analysis can highlight the online learning behaviors towards a mixture of social media learning and ICT to ensure a new educational platform for the future of e-learning. This research expects to be useful for both middle schools of online learning to better understand students' online learning behaviors and design online learning environments and information professionals to better assist students who particularly need digital literacy.

  • A data paper describing research data helps credit researchers producing the data while helping other researchers verify previous research and start new research by reusing the data. Publishing a data paper and depositing data to a public data repository are increasing with these benefits. A domestic academic society that plans to publish data papers faces challenges, including timely acquiring tremendous knowledge concerning data paper structures and templates, peer review policy and process, and trustworthy data repositories, as a data paper has different characteristics, unlike a research paper. However, the need for more research and information concerning the critical elements of data paper and the peer-review process makes it difficult to operate for data paper review and publication. To address these issues, we propose essential concepts of the data paper and the data paper peer-review, including the process model of the peer-review with in-depth analysis of five data journals' data paper templates, articles, and other guides worldwide. Academic societies intending to publish or add data papers as a new type of paper may establish policies and define a peer-review process by adopting the proposed conceptual models, effectively streamlining the preparation of data paper publication.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine and propose to improve the features of a simple keyword search box and faceted navigations of KOLIS-NET operated by the National Library of Korea. A record group of '2011-2020 (776)' under 'Publication date' facet, out of 3,702 records retrieved from a search of '김훈', were examined. Major findings are as follows: (1) Five facets including 'Format', 'Publication date', 'Subject', 'Language' and 'Country' are used to limit search results only in the first step, and multiple facets cannot be simultaneously used; (2) With 'Publication date' facet formed in the span of ten years, a separate publication year cannot be identified; (3) 'Subject' facet based on KDC limits the results only in broad subject classes without sub-facets; (4) Under 'Format' facet, a special format such as large print texts cannot be identified; (5) Without 'Author' facet, authors cannot be identified; and (6) 'Publication date missing', 'Language missing', and 'Miscellaneous subject' record groups cannot be clicked and displayed, a navigation to-and-fro between a brief list and bibliographic records is not smooth, etc. Therefore an application of multiple facets in all stages of limiting the search result, a construction of sub-facets for 'Publication date' and 'Subject' facets, an accurate description and coding of 'General Material Designation', etc. are suggested to improve KOLIS-NET's faceted navigation.

  • This study aims to investigate the awareness and experiences of domestic researchers regarding data publishing, which has been recognized as a new channel of data sharing as scholarly communication evolves in the open science environment. A survey is conducted among researchers from five government-funded research institutes in the field of science and technology and members of the GeoAI Data Society to confirm the awareness of data publishing. As a result of the study, domestic researchers recognized providing explanations for data, stable access to data, citation, and quality assurance through peer review as the advantages of data journals. On the contrary, a low level of recognition for data paper as one of the research outputs was presented. With regard to the properties of data publication, the respondents answered that the data description, metadata description, and permanent identifiers are highly related, however, their recognition of the relation between the properties of data publication and the data submission to a repository and data peer review was relatively low. Finally, to expand the data publication, the need for the development of an editorial system that supports data paper peer review and cross-linking to a data repository as well as the development of a repository that supports data citation was identified. This study on the domestic researchers' experience and awareness of data publishing can provide insights for the implementation of data publishing services and infrastructure in the future.

  • This paper is to grasp the current trends of national bibliographies through analyzing representative national bibliographies using literature review, analysis of national bibliographies' web pages and survey. First, in order to conform to the definition of a national bibliography as a record of a national publication, it attempts to include a variety of materials from print to electronic resources, but in reality it cannot contain all the materials, so there are exceptions. It is impossible to create a general selection guide for national bibliography coverage, and a plan that reflects the national characteristics and prepares a valid and comprehensive coverage based on analysis is needed. Second, cooperation with publishers and libraries is being made to efficiently generate national bibliography. For the efficiency of national bibliography generation, changes should be sought such as the standardization and consistency, the collection level metadata description for digital resources, and the creation of national bibliography using linked data. Third, national bibliography is published through the national bibliographic online search system, linked data search, MARC download using PDF, OAI-PMH, SRU, Z39.50, and mass download in RDF/XML format, and is integrated with the online public access catalog or also built separately. Above all, national bibliographies and online public access catalogs need to be built in a way of data reuse through an integrated library system. Fourth, as a differentiated function for national bibliography, various services such as user tagging and national bibliographic statistics are provided along with various browsing functions. In addition, services of analysis of national bibliographic big data, links to electronic publications, and mass download of linked data should be provided, and it is necessary to identify users' needs and provide open services that reflect them in order to develop differentiated services. Through the current trends and considerations of the national bibliographies analyzed in this study, it will be possible to explore changes in national and international national bibliography.

  • Seonsaengan(先生案) is the predecessor's lists. The list includes the names of the predecessor, the date of the appointment, the date of return, the previous job, and the next job. Therefore, previous studies on the local recruitment and Jungin (中人) that can not be found in general personnel information of the Joseon dynasty were conducted. However, the status and classification of the list has not been achieved yet. So this study aims to clarify the status, classification and data characteristics of the list. 176 books, are the Joseon dynasty lists of predecessors, remain to this day. These lists are in Jangseogak(47 cases), Kyujanggak(80 cases), the National Library of Korea(24 cases) and other collections(25 cases). Jangseogak has lists of royal government officials, Kyujanggak has lists of central government officials, and the National Library of Korea and other collections have lists of local government officials. However, this paper focuses on accessible Jangseogak list of 47 cases. As I mentioned earlier, the Jangsaegak lists are generally related to the royal government officails. This classification includes 18 central government officials, 5 local government officials, and 24 royal government officails. If the list is classified as contents, it can be classified into six rituals and diplomatic officials, 12 royal government officials, 5 local government officials, 14 royal tombs officials, and 10 royal education officials. Through the information on the list, the following six characteristics can be summarized. First, it can be finded the basic personal information about the recorded person. Second, the period of office and reasons for leaving the office and office can be known. Third, changes in the office system can be confirmed. Fourth, it can be looked at one aspect of the personnel administration system of the Joseon Dynasty through the previous workplace and the next job. Fifth, it is possible to know days that are particularly important for each government. Sixth, the contents of work evaluation can be confirmed. This is the reality of the Joseon Dynasty, which is different from the contents recorded in the Code. Through this, it is possible to look at the personnel administration system of the Joseon Dynasty. However, in order to carry out a precise review, it is necessary to make a database for 176 lists. In addition, if data is analyzed in connection with existing genealogy data, it will be possible to establish a basis for understanding the personnel administration system of the Joseon Dynasty.

  • In this study, we testify that network structural attributes of a citation network can explain other aspects of journal citation behaviors and the importances of journals. And we also testify various citation impact indicators of journals including JIF and h-index to verify the difference among them especially focused on their ability to explain an institution's local features of citation behaviors. An institutional citation network is derived using the articles published in 2006-2007 by biotechnology faculties of Y University. And various journal citation impact indicators including JIF, SJR, h-index, EigenFactor, JII are gathered from different service sites such as Web of Science, SCImago, EigenFactor.com, Journal-Ranking.com. As a results, we can explain the institution's 5 research domains with inter-citation network. And we find that the co-citation network structural features can show explanations on the patterns of institutional journal citation behavior different from the simple cited frequency of the institution or patterns based on general citation indicators. Also We find that journal ranks with various citation indicators have differences and it implies that total-based indices, average-based indices, and hybrid index(h-index) explain different aspects of journal citation pattern. We also reveal that the coverage of citation DB doesn't be a matter in the journal ranking. Analyzing the citation networks derived from an institution's research outputs can be a useful and effective method in developing several library services.

  • Institutional repository has been regarded as core facilities of research libraries to realize open access by collecting, preserving, distributing of intellectual asset what institution has created. In our country, many universities and research institutions are trying to introduce institutional repository system. But almost universities not only take the negative attitude to manage properly, but also never give basic training to staff members who take over institutional repository job. This study brightens up the current status of Korean training system and compares the British and Japanese cases what shows diverse advanced managing cases. Furthermore, by putting together demands of hands-on workers, suggest direction of future institutional repository staff training system. First, institutional repository staff training system has to suggest strategies to induce strong support from institution. Second, it has to give not only courses about content collecting and registering, but also practical training. Finally, the program for enhancing system management technology has to be provided, and the place where technical staffs can share their system information mutually has to be provided.
