A Psychodynamic Inquiry into the Self-Esteem of a Middle-Aged Man via Bibliotherapy (중년남성의 자존감 향상을 위한 독서치료 - 성서와 일반도서 활용을 중심으로 -)

  • This paper applies bibliotherapy in order to restore the self-esteem of a middle-aged man in particular. The Bible and six self-help books are used for its therapy. In conclusion, the middle-aged male clients have restored their self-esteem and improve their sense of human dignity in the counseling program which used the Bible and self-help literatures. Bibliotherapy has also proven itself as an important method of psychotherapy which educates the clients to resolve their psychological issues.

  • The aim of this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness of bibliotherapy program for university students. Bibliotherapy program was designed and apply to crash course of 'Library Science' at Graduate School of Library, Archive & Information Studies in Pusan National University for fall semester 2006. A evaluation way of bibliotherapy program was a self-evaluation method for 5 cases of 39 university students participated in bibliotherapy program with examining of self-identity. The results have two obtains. 1) This program has a effectiveness in change of inner world. 2) Bibliotherapy program has a effectiveness in establishing ego-identity of university students.

  • I have discussed some problems of distortion in reading education. I think we must give careful consideration to the true meaning of reading to overcome the matter.   • This study is to examine the research trends of bibliotherapy in Korea through an analysis of databases(monograph, master's and doctor's dissertations, and journal articles) in National Assembly Library and to analyze the citations and documents in various aspects(year, field, object, pattern) . The study is to present basic data for bibliotherapist and researcher and to indicate the direction of their study in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of bibliotherapy for developing children's social competence. Specifically, this study investigated the relationship between bibliotherapy and social competence for elementary school children. In this study, social competence includes self-esteem, self-control, peer-relationship. As a result, bibliotherapy was significantly to related to self-control, self-esteem, peer-relationship. These results will be contributed to learn and develop social competence through bibliotherapy.

  • Generally, Bibliotherapy is aimed to cure the emotional or psychological wounds by using books for common users as self-treatment. But, Bibliotherapy for disabled people is carried out by alternative formats instead of a book. In library for the disabled, it is developing various bibliotherapy programs, but not yet activated. In order to carry out bibliotherapy, it is necessary to improve the bibliotherapy catalog preferentially. However, most Bibliotherapy catalogs are created for the common users, not for disabled people specially. How to make the special catalog for disabled people and catalog of alternative formats according to pathological symptom or situation is still a big problem. Basing on this premise, the author examined the necessity of bibliotherapy catalog for disabled people, and the present situation of alternative materials for the bibliotherapy. And then, the author proposes plans of bibliotherapy for how to build the bibliotherapy for disabled people.

  • This study is a case study with four classes of sophomore majoring in library & information science in S woman's college, with a questionnaire, firstly to research the students' recognition of their experience on bibliotherapy and the time, their preference of the materials' genre for the bibliotherapy. usefulness of the bibliotherapy' subject, apply possibility into library work, and the field of science that must be supplemented for the bibliotherapy. Secondly. a direction of development is presented analyzing researched contents and lecture experiences, centering on the factors that should be complemented and prepared in studying or lecturing the course of bibliotherapy as a school subject in the field of library & information science hereafter.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate if bibliotherapy is effective for the retirees suffering from depression and enervation caused by early retirement in order to help them to accept their situations positively, lessen their illnesses and actively live new lives. The study used 15 people and executed 1:1 interview investigation among early retired employees from 45-years old to 56-years old. They were all inhabitants of the Kunsan area and visited the S University library, and used the S University library conference room for bibliotherapy. A. T. Beck's 'Beck Depression Inventory' (BDI) was used to collect the data for this research, and the before- and after-data analyses were performed.

  • Adolescence is a critical period of mental disorder. A teacher, as a significant other, is an important social supporter for adolescents. The purpose of this study is to develop bibliotherapy programs for teachers as a school-based prevention program which helps improve the mental health of adolescents. Two programs are designed for teachers. One is for a teacher as an ordinary person in his/her daily life and the other is for a teacher as a significant other of adolescents.
