A Study on the Evaluation of Service Quality and Importance-Performance Analysis in Research Libraries (전문도서관의 서비스품질 측정과 중요도-성과분석에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine users' perceived importance for service attributes and performance in research libraries, and further to suggest the improvement strategies for research libraries. The survey was conducted for the library users of 14 government-funded research institutes. The questionnaire for this research was developed from the standard LibQUAL+. Statistical analyses were conducted to identify the relationship between service quality and users' satisfaction, and the gap between perceived importance and performance by user groups. According to the result of statistical analyses, the priority of service improvement strategies of research libraries were suggested.

  • The library manager's communication ability can influence organizational management because the types and ways of organizational management is carried out can be determined by the manager's communication ability. In that, this study intends to examine the influence of the library manager's communication ability on job performance and role-conflict of the library staff. To do so, on top of the conceptual framework of communication and the library as an organization, this study builds theoretical underpinnings on the library manager's communication ability, job performance and role-conflict of the library staff. Using a questionnaire survey method, this study surveys 127 library staff from 8 public libraries in Seoul, statistically analyzes the response through the SPSS20 statistical package, and examines the relationship between and among the variables. Based on the analysis, a discussion on the influence of the library manager's communication ability on job performance and role-conflict of the library staff follows.

  • Research competitiveness is the future of the university and the future of the country. This study is to present considerations when university libraries introduce and perform research performance analysis services and to propose guidelines for selection of analysis solutions. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, 6 university library staff were interviewed and 4 research performance analysis solutions were compared. The contents of the interview include the background of service promotion, service content, subscription solution, service provision scope and provision method. The research performance analysis solutions selected for analysis are InCite, SciVal, RIMS and Scholytics. As a result of analyzing the four solutions, it was found that most of the software has the necessary functions to perform research performance analysis service tasks, and generally subscribed to the solution according to the purpose of analysis. The results of this study can be used as reference materials for performing research performance analysis services in university libraries.

  • The University libraries need to develop the balanced scorecard concerning general management in order to measure the total performance of the organization that measure not only quantity measurement based on resources and quality measurement based on information services but also effectiveness of resource utilization, efficiency ability providing the services and potential capability of the members adopting the diverse changes flexibility as organic organization under the rapidly changing circumstances nowadays. This study developed the BSC model into the four perspectives such as customer, resource, internal process, learning and growing modifying BSC model developed by Kaplan and Norton to fit university libraries as nonprofit organization and developed the strategic map and performance measurement indicators on the strategy of each perspective. Ultimately, this study tried to provide an integrated strategic management indicators providing comprehensive picture of university libraries from strategic plan to performance applying the BSC linking strategic plan.

  • 오늘날과 같은 정보통신 발달의 시대에서 정보 전달의 신속성과 접근성을 보장하는 것은 정보서비스 기관의 경쟁력 강화에 매우 중요한 일이다. 마이크로 블로깅을 제공하는 서비스 중 하나인 트위터는 web 2.0 서비스의 대표주자로 시 공간을 초월한 도서관 정보서비스의 신속성과 접근성을 지원하는 강력한 도구로 부상하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국내외 도서관의 트위터를 중심으로 마이크로 블로깅을 활용한 정보서비스 적용사례를 조사하고 이와 같은 신기술 적용 활성화를 위한 시사점을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 조사한 사례는 미국 의회도서관, 미국 뉴욕 공공도서관, 영국 국립 도서관, 국내의 국립중앙도서관 디브러리, 포항공대 도서관인 포스텍 도서관 이고 주요하게 트위터의 수치적인 현황, 활용 목적, 내용, 이용하는 인터페이스 측면들을 조사 분석하였다.

A Study on the Outcomes Measurement of a Public Library's Reading Program for Children Using the Evaluation Framework Based-on the Logic Model (로직모델 기반 평가 프레임워크를 이용한 공공도서관 어린이 독서 프로그램 성과 측정 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to measure the outcomes of a program provided by a public library using the evaluation framework based on Logic Model. A reading program for children which was operated by a public library in Seoul was selected. The outcome evaluation was started with the analysis of the reading program process including planning, operation, and evaluation. Based on the analysis, a logic model framework for outcome evaluation was developed. For evaluation, user, bibliography, and circulation data were collected from the library KOLAS system. Additionally, the participant information were extracted from the final report drafted after the program. The research results show that the number of circulation of program participants was increased after the program. In addition, the range of reading topic was expanded. These findings indicate that the reading program is an effective program for promoting children's reading habit and that outcome evaluation might be a valid tool to measure the effectiveness of public library programs.

  • Organizational communication is an element of organizational structure formation; it is also a process of achieving organizational goals through the information sharing among the staff members in the organization as a social system. Organizational performance is a multidimensional concept composed of efficiency and effectiveness and satisfaction. Effectiveness implies service quality and the degree of goal achievement. Service quality by using the $LibQUAL+^{TM}$ model can be considered as an objective performance measure for libraries. This study aims to identify the effect of organizational communication in public libraries on service quality as a performance measure using the $LibQUAL+^{TM}$ model through statistical analyses of the results from questionnaire surveys of librarieans and users in 8 public libraries in Seoul metropolitan area. The result says the characteristics of organizational communication(upward, horizontal, downward communication) affects the three elements in the library service quality, such as affect of service, information control and library as place.

  • American Academic Accreditation System was reviewed. Current accreditation standards of the six regional accreditation associations were analysed with reference to the evaluation of academic libraries. That analysis was led to the recognition of some trends; mission and goal based assessment, qualitative evaluation, emphasis on the student learning outcomes, emphasis on the teaching role of academic librarians, distance education, and less prescriptive text. Some suggestions were made for revision of the Korean academic accreditation standards related to libraries.
