A Study of Main-Road Analysis for Efficient Road Management : Focusing on the Chungcheong Area (효율적 도로관리를 위한 핵심도로망 분석에 관한 연구 : 충청권을 중심으로)

  • This study analyzes the main road network for road users to manage roads efficiently and derives problematic road sections to be improved. Traditional road management has been operated by manager-oriented view and a diversified road management system based on congestion. Therefore, in this research, the mail road Network was selected from the viewpoint of passenger-oriented, logistics-oriented and tourism-oriented, and the problematic road sections were derived through Level Of Service (LOS) analysis, safety analysis using EPDO accident rate, and network service analysis. This study emphasizes the efficient user-oriented road construction and management system and the need of constructing a mail road network, and it suggests the improvement strategies.

Exploring the influence of commuter's variable departure time in autonomous driving car operation (자율주행차 운영 환경하에서 통근자 출발시간 선택의 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of commuter's departure time on transportation system in future traffic system operated autonomous vehicle using agent based model. Various scenarios have been set up, such as when all passenger choose a similar departure time, or if the passenger chooses a different departure time. Also, this study tried to analyze the effect of road capacity. It was found that although many of the scenarios had been completed in a stable manner, many commuters were significantly coordinated at the desired departure time. In particular, in the case of a reduction in road capacity or in certain scenarios, it has been shown that, despite excessive schedule adjustments, many passengers are unable to commute before 9 o'clock. As a result, it is suggested that traffic management and pricing policies are different from current ones in the era of autonomous car operation.

  • This paper provides information for quantitative evaluation of transportation technology, technology development, and transportation R&D and construction engineering policy agenda. Technology classification structure and key words were established and survey was performed to identify key words of technology for transportation. Then, competitiveness of patents and journal articles is evaluated for Korea, USA, Japan, Germany, France, and England. As a result, USA is the most competitive country for all technology categories based on patents and journal articles. Korea is grouped in upper-middle class for overall transportation technology level. However, there are some variances among the level of technologies. The results of this research can be utilized to establish a road map for transportation R&D and plans.

  • With the advent of autonomous driving, personal mobility, drones, and smart roads, it is necessary to respond to changes in the road traffic environment in the road guidance system. However, the use of road signs to guide the road is decreasing compared to the past due to the advent of devices such as navigation and smartphones. Therefore, in this study, a large-scale survey was conducted to derive road sign issues and usage plans to respond to future changes. Based on this, this study presented a strategy to diversify road sign functions by analyzing the factors affecting the use of road signs by citizens. As a result, first, it is necessary to provide real-time variable road guidance information that reflects user needs such as traffic, weather, and local events. Second, it is necessary to informatize digital road signs such as reflecting maps with precision. Third, it is necessary to demonstrate road guidance in a virtual environment that reflects various future mobility and road environments.

  • 이동 단말의 보급이 보편화됨에 따라 이동 객체의 위치 정보를 기반으로 사용자에게 사람이나 사물, 차량 등과 같은 이동 객체의 위치를 파악하여 그에 대한 정보를 제공해 주는 시스템이 필요로 하게 되었나 이러만 이동 객체관리 시스템에서는 계속적으로 위치 정보가 변화하는 이동 객체의 특성상 데이터의 빈번한 갱신이 일어나게 되고 DBMS에 명시적으로 저장되지 않은 위치 정보에 대해서도 보다 정확한 위치를 사용자에게 제공해 주어야 한다. 그러나 차량의 위치 추적과 같이 적용 개체가 차량에 한정된 경우 이동 경로가 도로상으로 제한되어 있으므로 이동 경로를 예측하기 힘든 사람과 같은 객체와는 특성이 나르나 따라서 차량 객체에 대해 보다 효과적인 서비스를 제공해 주기 위해서는 사람에 대한 위치 추적과는 다른 갱신 정책과 불확실한 위치의 추정 기법이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 공간 데이터에 저장된 도로의 위상 정보와 차량의 속도 속성을 이용한 갱신 정책을 정하여 갱신 빈도수로 줄이고 도로 레이어의 위상 정보를 통해 불확실한 과거 및 미래의 위치로 추정하는 기법을 제안한다. 제안한 갱신 정책은 차량의 속도를 고려하여 현재의 위치에서 도로상의 교차점에 도착하는 시점의 위치를 예측하여 데이터의 갱신 시점으로 결정한다. 또한 불확실한 위치에 대한 추정은 이동하는 도회와 대응되는 위상 정보를 기반으로 차량의 이동 방향을 예측하 여 불확실한 미래의 위치를 결정할 수 있으며 명시적으로 저장되지 않은 과거 위치 정보의 검색에 대한 요청이 발생했을 경우 위상 정보를 이용하여 위치를 보정하고 사용자에게 보나 높은 정확성을 지닌 정보를 제공해 줄 수 있다.다. Development of Vision-Based Monitering System Technology for Traffic (교통량 분석 및 감시를 위한 영상 기반 관측 시스템 기술 개발)

  • Recently, it is very important to establish and predict a traffic policy for expanding social infra structure like road, because the number of cars is significantly increasing. In this paper, we propose and develop an automated system technology based on vision sensor (CCTV) which can provide an efficient information for the traffic policy establishment and expanding the social infra structure. First, the CCTV image is captured as an input of the developed system. With this image, we propose a scheme for extracting vehicles on the road and classifying small-type, large-type vehicles based on color, motion, and geometric features. Also, we develop a DB (database) system for supplying a whole information of traffic for a specified period. Based on the proposed system, we verify 90.1% of recognition ratio in real-time traffic monitering environment.

Acceptability of a Freeway Travel Reservation Strategy (고속도로 통행 예약제의 수용성 분석)

  • The objective of this study is to propose a new strategy, called "freeway travel reservation strategy", to mitigate freeway traffic congestion by using advanced traffic technologies and traffic demand management policies, and to analyze its acceptability. Motorist surveys were carried out to accomplish the acceptability analysis. As a result, 73% of respondents agreed with the proposed strategy, and an increase in the inconvenience for using freeway during the major Korean Holidays, in the age, in the number of family members, and in household income resulted in higher acceptability. Additionally, married or female respondents tended to have higher acceptability. Such results can be practical for developing policies to successfully operate the proposed strategy in the future.

  • Previous management for speed in road traffic system was aimed only to the improvement of mobility and safety. However, consideration for the aspect of environment and energy consumption efficiency was valued less than the former ones. Nevertheless, economical damage scope caused by climate change has been increasing and it is estimated that environmental value will be increased because of the change of external circumstances. In addition, policy for reducing carbon emission in transportation system was assessed as insufficient in improving the condition of traffic road since it only focused on the transition of private vehicle into public transportation and development of eco-friendly car. Now it is the time to prepare for the adaptation strategy and precaution for the increased number of private vehicle in Korea. For this, paradigm shift in traffic operation which includes the policy not only about the mobility but also about caring environment would be needed. It is needed to be able to monitor the actual amount of greenhouse gas in real time to reduce the amount of emitted greenhouse gas in the aspect of traffic management. In this research, a methodology which can build on-line greenhouse gas emission monitoring system by using real time traffic data and predicting the circumstance in next 5 minutes was suggested.

A Non-strict Hub Network Design for Road Freight Transportation considering Economies of Scale (규모의 경제효과를 고려한 도로화물수송의 비제약 허브네트워크 설계)

  • Implementing hub networks in logistics is generally attractive and effective because of cost savings derived from economies of scale on network transportation, and objective of the hub network design problem is to decide optimal hub locations, and the transportation route of each origin-destination pair. This problem is generally a NP-complete problem not to solve easily, and it is almost impossible to find optimal solutions considering the big-sized network within a reasonable time. This research tried to find optimal logistics strategy in the given big-sized real network and the freight origin-destination data. The objective function, which was proposed by Honor and O'kelly (2001), that rewards economies of scale on network links with increase of transportation volumes, is applied. This thesis proposed the optimal hub network of korea within a reasonable time based on engineering approaches. And it is expected that this thesis can contribute to plan freight policies which can improve to have competitive power in the level of a company or nation by reducing logistic costs.
