An Introductory Study for Developing the Urban Street Design Manual (도시부 도로의 구조시설.기준 작성 기초 연구 - 횡단구성을 중심으로 -)

  • Urbanization of Korea reaches up to 90% in the year 2003. What that means is that 90% of population live in the city areas. This phenomenon emphasizes importances of urban streets where people feel accessibility and level of environmental amenity, enjoy recreational activity, and live for a life. However, the current Korean manual for designing road is not enough to accomodate various activities of urban streets since its target is basically rural roads. This study proposes the necessity of a new design manual of urban streets via analyzing the practices of the development countries, and aims to recommend what should be prepared and how those are defined for developing a design manual of urban streets in Korea. It is inevitable that the design manual of urban streets be based on the flexibility and diversity. The manual should be made through consensus among the related stakeholders such as designers, residents and officials. And it also should reflect the characteristics of each city. It is somehow true that without the manual, designing of urban streets can be done although it is not fully acceptable. This does not mean that the necessity of the manual can be ignored. Rather, we should remember that the related stakeholders may not want to reveal what are hidden in developing the design manual of urban streets. What are hidden is that developing the design manual of urban streets is difficult problem to solve. It is a wish that this study triggers the on-going research and interests on developing the design manual of urban streets.

Classification Analysis of Road Network-Based Land Use Considering Spatial Structure (공간구조를 고려한 도로망 기반 토지이용의 분류분석)

  • To understand urban space and make appropriate plans, the integrative analyses considering road and land use simultaneously are required. In addition, studies that involve both horizontal and vertical spaces must be taken into consideration. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to conduct a classification analysis of road network-based land use considering spatial structure. The methods of this study were as follows; first, a space syntax theory considering the structure of road network was introduced for roads. For land use, to consider both horizontal and vertical development densities of residential and commercial buildings were used. And the explanatory power of three variables-Euclidean distance, global integration and length-reflected global integration-were compared. Third, based on road as an appropriate variable, modified-IPA was conducted with land use and the results were categorized into four areas. The proposed method was applied to Gangnam-gu, a CBD area in Seoul, and results were analyzed and visualized using GIS.

  • 고속도로에서 주행속도가 높아지게 되면, 도로의 노면 상태에 따라 차량의 안전과 쾌적한 운전자의 환경이 변화될 수 있다. 이처럼 도로의 노면 상태를 결정하는 주된 인자는 도로의 평탄성과 소성변형에 의한 노면의 요철이라고 할 수 있다. 평탄하지 못한 도로를 자동차가 고속으로 주행하게 되면, 자동차의 속도에 의한 도로와의 마찰이 발생하여 자동차에는 매우 큰 흔들림이 발생하게 된다. 또한, 도로의 경우에도 자동차의 차축과 도로면에서 발생하는 충격에 의해 미세한 진동이 발생하게 된다. 그리고 광섬유 브래그 격자(FBG)센서는 외부에서 작용하는 매우 미세한 물리량에 의한 변화의 측정이 가능한 매우 우수한 계측 센서로 사용이 가능하기 때문에 온도보상형 광섬유진동센서를 제작하였고, 이를 고속도로 포장면의 평탄성 모니터링에 활용하고자 하였다.

Improvement of Flexural Structural Performance and Applied Section Shape for Sound Proof Wall Structures Using Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer(GFRP) (GFRP를 활용한 도로 방음벽 구조물의 구조성능 및 단면형상 개선에 관한 연구)

  • This research presents the structural performance and an improving technique for flexural capacity of road safety facilities based on the damage cases by wind pressure. Among road safety facilities, a support frame of soundproofing walls is considered as a prototype structure and its corresponding structural behaviors and section design are performed mainly by analytical and experimental studies. On the basis of analytical results, glass fiber reinforced polymer(GFRP) with an epoxy matrix which is high stiffness-to-weight ratio was used for applied one of strengthening techniques and their results shows that support frame strengthened by GFRP is the most effective compared to other cases proposed in this research for advancing its flexural improvement, Finally, optimum section design was performed analytically to evaluate wind-resistance capacity and its result would be very useful for developing a practical design guideline for Road safety facilities under strong wind.

Automatic Drawing and Structural Editing of Road Lane Markings for High-Definition Road Maps (정밀도로지도 제작을 위한 도로 노면선 표시의 자동 도화 및 구조화)

  • High-definition road maps are used as the basic infrastructure for autonomous vehicles, so the latest road information must be quickly reflected. However, the current drawing and structural editing process of high-definition road maps are manually performed. In addition, it takes the longest time to generate road lanes, which are the main construction targets. In this study, the point cloud of the road lane markings, in which color types(white, blue, and yellow) were predicted through the PointNet model pre-trained in previous studies, were used as input data. Based on the point cloud, this study proposed a methodology for automatically drawing and structural editing of the layer of road lane markings. To verify the usability of the 3D vector data constructed through the proposed methodology, the accuracy was analyzed according to the quality inspection criteria of high-definition road maps. In the positional accuracy test of the vector data, the RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) for horizontal and vertical errors were within 0.1m to verify suitability. In the structural editing accuracy test of the vector data, the structural editing accuracy of the road lane markings type and kind were 88.235%, respectively, and the usability was verified. Therefore, it was found that the methodology proposed in this study can efficiently construct vector data of road lanes for high-definition road maps.

Differences in Breeding Bird Communities Caused by Different Distance from the Road (도로로부터 거리가 다른 지역에서 번식기 조류군집의 차이)

  • This study was conducted to clarify the influence of national road construction on breeding bird community from April to June 2002 in 8 fragmented forest areas of Baekdudaegan mountain ranges, Korea. There were more observed birds in 50∼100m areas than in 50m areas from road. Guild structures were different between both areas. Number of species and individuals belong to hole nesting and canopy foraging guilds were lower in 50m areas than in 50∼100m areas from roads. Habitat structure of breeding bird community would be changed by road construction.

  • 균열성 암반이나 강도가 부족한 지반을 굴착할 때, 그들의 개량을 목적으로 "주입공법(Grouting)"이 채택된다. 최근, 이 주입공법으로 경사진 건물이나 구조물을 복구하는 공법이 개발되었다. 이 공법은 Jacking of Grout(JOG공법)로 이름이 붙여져, 한신 아와지 대지진 재해나 대만의 집집지진으로 기울어진 빌딩과 건물에서 암거까지 100건 이상의 현장에서 이들의 복구에 실적을 올려 왔다. 여기서는 이 신기술의 원리와 적용사례를 소개한다.

Database Design for Development of the GIS-based Earthquake Damage Evaluation System of Highway Bridges (도로교의 GIS 기반 지진피해평가체계 구축을 위한 데이터베이스 설계)

  • The essential information elements for the Earthquake Damage Evaluation System (EDES) of highway bridges are defined in this study, and a database construction method, which fits the circumstances of Korea, is proposed. The information elements for the EDES of highway bridges are categorized in two groups: structure related information, location related information. The structure related information is composed of the fragility curve information which is necessary for earthquake damage evaluation of highway bridges. The data structure of road network, which represents the location related information, is defined in more detail than the existing GIS-based data structure of road network for modeling of junctions. A pilot GIS-based EDES subjected to 110 bridges on expressway in Korea is developed, and it is verified that the proposed database construction method for the EDES can be used to develop a decision making system for quick retrofitting of the seismic damages of highway bridges and road network.

  • In this study, our purpose is to identify a causal relationship in consciousness relating to the public involvement for current road improvement projects in Seoul Some of hypotheses about causal relationships among the psychological factors are assumed to develop a structural equation model. This model includes latent variables determining the consciousness relating to public involvement procedure, such as distrust feeling for administration (public sector) the knowledge and satisfaction about the road project, and the comprehensive faculty on the public involvement. The estimated model indicates that these assumed hypotheses are proved and that the administrative distrust strongly determines the consciousness as well as understanding of the road project and the knowledge of PI procedure.
