Database teaching and learning effects applying the situated learning theory (상황학습 이론을 적용한 데이터베이스 교수 학습 효과)

  • To determine efficient methods of database teaching, this paper applied the situated learning theory to the teaching and learning method and analyzed the effects. Previous related studies were also examined, with the essential contents in database analyzed based on Bloom's taxonomy of educational objectives. Moreover, this paper presented a strategy wherein the contents of database learning are classified into two categories: basic knowledge and technical and extended knowledge. Experimental and control groups were selected based on related studies, and the effects of database teaching and learning method, determined by technique and attitude area as well as knowledge area. After preparing and applying to the teaching and learning method the actual educational curriculum, the following results were drawn: (1) the experimental group showed better performance in terms of understanding the concept of database, operating database, and constructing a database table when the situated learning theory was applied to the teaching method, and; (2) the experimental group was also more receptive compared to the control group, which opted to take technique-oriented database courses. Therefore, various teaching and learning methods aside from the situated learning theory should be applied and analyzed in database and computer science fields for maximum effects.

  • 전력 회사의 효율적인 운용과 전력 시장에서의 경쟁을 위하여 고객의 전력 소비 패턴 분석 및 정확한 예측이 이루어져야 한다. 이를 위해서 이 논문에서는 원격 검침 시스템에 의한 전국의 고압 고객 데이터를 대상으로 고객의 전력 소비 패턴을 정확히 예측할 수 있는 마이닝 기법을 제안하였다. 먼저, 국내 계약종별 고객 특성에 맞는 부하 패턴의 정확한 구별을 위한 9가지의 특징 벡터를 추출하였고, 기대치-최대화 군집화 알고리즘을 사용하여 고객의 34개 대표 부하프로파일을 생성하였다. 마지막으로 추출된 특징 벡터로부터 각 대표 프로파일에 대한 출현 패턴 기반의 분류 모델을 구성하여 고객의 전력 소비 패턴을 분류하였다. 국내 원격 검침 시스템에 의해 측정된 총 3,895명의 고압 고객 데이터에 대한 실험 결과 약 91%의 분류 정확성을 보였다.

  • A literature analysis for the planning and realization of meta database system was carried out to establish the ocean electronic resources, the first in Korea. The study targeted from web resources and to oceanographic survey data. The focus of the analysis lies in the providing practical information retrieval service for ocean electronic resources based on the framework of effective Dublin Core metadata with network resources description. The analyses included ocean electronic resources, metadata descriptive elements, metadata classification, system organization and retrieval for planning and implementation of meta database system.

  • This paper suggests a new model connecting various knowledge activities through classification systems such as classifications of research, technology, industry, major and job. Although research activities are linked to technology and industry areas or to education and job areas, there is no effort to link these kinds of activities. There are a few studies to link research and technology or research and education respectively. But, there have been no studies to connect technology-industry linkage and education-job linkage. This paper suggests that research area can be a basis of link between technology-industry linkage and education-job linkage. The methods building the links are not simple, but easy; 1) setting up new science/research classification system having two dimensions of research and application, 2) building electronic systems and databases allowing fields for several classification systems, and 3) making rules using multi-dimensional classification systems following the purpose of the programs. The model is designed to meet the needs of nationwide R&D and human resources policies, and for the preparation of knowledge society to grasp the relationship between sequential activities using knowledge. If we know the interactive relationships between various areas, we can trace related phenomena in different activities with restricted information.

Building Database using Character Recognition Technology (문자 인식 기술을 이용한 데이터베이스 구축)

  • Optical character recognition(OCR) might be the most plausible method in building database out of printed matters. This paper describes the points to be considered when one selects an OCR system in order to build database. Based on the considerations, we evaluated four commercial OCR systems, and chose one which shows the best recognition rate to build OCT-text database. The subject text, the KT-test collection, is a set of abstracts from proceedings of different printing quality, fonts, and formats. KT-test collection is also provided with typed text database. Recognition rate was calculated by comparing the recognition result with the typed text. No preprocessing such as learning and slant correction was applied to the recognition process in order to simulate a practical environment. The result shows 90.5% of character recognition rate over 970 abstracts. This recognition rate is still insufficient for practical use. The errors in OCR texts are different from those of manually typed texts. In this paper, we classify the errors in OCR texts for the further research.

  • The Non-Sampling Error can happen any time by means of the intended or unintended error by the interviewer or respondent, but it is very difficult to find the error in survey database because it can hardly be computed mathematically and systematically. Until now, we have found it accidentally through the simple relation between the items or through the inspection from the random field. Therefore we introduced an heuristic methodology that can detect the interviewer's error by statistical decision-making or data mining techniques with a case study. It will be helpful so as to improve the statistical duality and provide efficient field management for the supervisor.

Fingerprint Classification Using Core Points and Flow-line Tracing (Core point와 Flow-line 추적을 이용한 지문 영상의 분류)

  • 지문영상의 분류는 데이터베이스의 용량이 클 경우 검색시간을 효율적으로 단축시킬 수 있는 핵심적인 기술이다. 따라서 본 논문에서 core point 와 flow-line 추적을 이용한 효율적인 지문 영상 분류 기법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법은 특히 압착 날인된 지문 영상의 분류에 적합한 방법으로 크게 2단계로 이루어져 있다. 첫 번째 단계에서는 먼저 Poincare index를 이용하여 core point를 찾아내고 이를 바탕으로 개략적인 분류를 수행한다. 그 다음 두 번째 단계에서는 core point를 중심으로 flow-line을 추적하여 그 결과를 가지고 세부적인 분류를 수행한다. 세부분류 단계에서는 평활화된 블록의 방향정보를 이용한 효과적인 flow-line 추적 알고리즘과 이를 이용한 새로운 분류 방법이 제안된다. 제안한 방법은 회전이나 이동 그리고 약간의 잡음에 강인한 지문 분류 방법으로 지문입력기를 통하여 획득된 700장의 지문 영상에 적용해 본 결과 93.6%의 분류율을 나타내었다.
