The Utilization of Electronic Journal Files in the Production of an Abstract Database: A case of KoreaMed System (초록 데이터베이스 구축에 있어서 학술지 전자출판 파일의 활용과 문제점: KoreaMed를 중심으로)

  • The study examined the current status and the use of electronic publishing files to produce a bibliographic database. In particular . it examined the problems faced in the production of KoreaMed, an abstract database of Korean medical journals. The methodology of KoreaMed to utilize the computer files which was produced in the process of publication of a print journal is found to be very effective. It assures the accuracy of data, accelerates the input speeds, and reduces the input costs. However, such a project can not be accomplished to a satisfactory level without the cooperation of the publishers involved. It turns out that many small publishers and academic societies hardly have saved the electronic publishing files of previous issues. Besides, it is hard to maintain the right channel to receive the files continuously. The input and processing of special characters are very delicate problems. In addition, the diversity of layout and formats of journals, of the electronic publishing software used, and of the storage media, makes the utilization of the electronic publishing files a very complex process. In order to operate the KoreaMed system more efficiently by requiring the publishers to submit XML files which meets the standard of the KoreaMed, it is necessary to educate and train personnels of journal publishers for the management of electronic publishing files.

Development of a mercury database for food commonly consumed by Koreans (한국인 상용 식품 중 수은 함량 데이터베이스 구축)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a mercury database for food commonly consumed by Koreans. Methods: Target foods for a mercury database were selected from dietary survey data of the 2007-2009 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). Data for mercury contents of foods were collected through literature review. Among 702 food items reported by 24 hr dietary recall method, the contents of mercury for 300 food items were selected with systematic evaluation from the literature, which provided analytical values, and those of 56 food items were imputed by using a conversion factor. Results: The mercury database developed in this study covered 50.7% of all kinds of consumed foods and 95.1% of total amount of food intake reported by 2007-2009 KNHANES. In the database, the geometric mean of mercury contents in food items was the highest in the fishes and shellfishes group ($41.13{\mu}g/kg$, n = 101) followed by mushrooms ($18.93{\mu}g/kg$, n = 12) and seaweeds ($5.92{\mu}g/kg$, n = 14), and the lowest in the meats group ($0.15{\mu}g/kg$, n = 17). Conclusion: The developed mercury database can be used to estimate the dietary mercury exposure of Korean people, and the method for development of a mercury database would be helpful to researchers in development of a new database for other food borne hazardous substances.

  • Construction delay claim occurs more often than any other claim. Delay claim impacts adversely the company's existence as well as the project's monetary problem. Because the calculation of the delay is not quantitative, owing not to have enough evidence, it is hard to solve evenly the delay claim. So, it is need to cumulate structurely the construction data or evidence during the construction. This study considers the established study about construction delay claim database and the problems and then presents the relation method between phase schedule and database. Finally, this study established the productivity claim database modeling for construction project through conceptual database modeling and logical database modeling based on information needed to make construction productivity database. So. the purpose of the study is to establish the datamodel for productivity management of construction project for calculating the delay days considering the lost productivity.

  • A reference linking service that is connection of each other different information resource need to setup the reference database and to match identifier. CrossRef, PubMed and Web Of Science etc. the many overseas agencies developed reference linking service, that they used the automatic tools of Inera eXstyles, Parity Computings Reference Extractor etc. and setup in base DOI and PMID etc. Domestic the various agencies of KISTI(Korea Institute Science and Technology of Information), KRF(Korea Research Foundation) etc are construction reference database. But each research communities adopts a various reference bibliography writing format. As, the data base construction which is collect is confronting is many to being difficult. In this paper, We developed the Citation Matcher System. This system is automatic parsing the reference string to metadata and matching DOI, PMID and KOI as Identifier. It is improved the effectiveness of reference database setup.

  • With the growing realization that the GIS data management becomes important more than ever, a great deal of the spatial data is being digitalized through various GIS projects, such as NGIS project. However, the integrated search and analysis for GIS data are highly constrained by the databases being heterogeneous and distributed among organizations. This paper is to introduce the system developed to solve the problem of interoperability in the heterogeneous and distributed databases environment. The system architecture is presented which is composed of spatial data servers, nodes, and a gateway. Also, the paper provides the implementation details of the client application to access and analyze the distributed and heterogeneous spatial data with the standardized interface. Finally, based on the technical architecture, the korea spatial data infrastructure is explained.

  • A concept of multi-layered database is proposed for the integrated operation of bridge information in this study. The multi-layered database is a logically integrated database composed of standardized information layers. The standardized information layers represent the data sets that can be unified, and they are defined by standardized information models. Classification system of bridge component was used as a basis of the multi-layered database, and code system based on the classification system was employed as a key integrator to manipulate the distributed data located on the different information layers. In addition, data level indicating priorities of information layers was defined to support strategic planning of the multi-layered database construction. As a proof of concept, a prototype of multi-layered database for object-oriented 3-D shape information and structural calculation document was built. Data consistency check of the semantically same data in the two different information layer was demonstrated, It is expected that the proposed concept can assure the integrity and consistency of information in the bridge information management.

  • This paper proposes two methods for the construction of job offer and job hunting information in order to supply an environment that can easily connects to job hunting information. First, the database expansion, category rules and ERD(Entity Relation Diagram) are designed for the construction of job hunting site with real example. Second, the prime number labeling rules are designed for the strong intimacy of label rules. Therefore, according to using the systematic and regular rules when we design and construct a database, the consistency and efficiency are improved in the database being constructed and being operated. And the convenience of application program development and operation are easily provided. In addition, the proposed code-expansion rule can be defined and be standardized in the domestic and foreign job offer and job hunting information provision agency.

  • Chemical plants should perform Quantitative Risk Assessment that evaluates types of accident, frequency and damage which can happen through using the hazardous equipment and the hazardous materials for preventing and preparing industrial disasters. It is necessary that Chemical plants should include the reliability database which efficiently evaluate the Quantitative Risk Assessment. So in this study, we suggest a which methodology applies Quantitative Risk Assessment on the basis of the constructed data to imply the reliability of industrial facilities and equipment, collection of reliability data, system analysis and development of software.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest knowledge-based digital library model that is applicable in korea university library. This paper provides brief accounts of research and development trends of digital library in referring some major digital library projects that are in progress, or just completed. There follows a suggestion of eight essential modules for knowledge-based digital library system, that are infrastructure development of dissertation presentation and database construction, management and service of collections, infrastructure construction of journal service, development of unified viewer, database conversion, distributed & integrated retrieval system, cyber campus(private work space), and database connection.
