Spatial and temporal variation of phosphorus in response to intensity of summer monsoon was evaluated in Taechung Reservoir during 1993${\sim}$1994. Total phosphorus (TP) averaged 31 ${\mu}$g/l during the study and varied from 6 to 197 ${\mu}$g/l. Concentrations of TP were highest in the headwaters during the monsoon of July${\sim}$August 1993, and these values were mainly made of particulate P and were closely associated (R$^{2}$=0.74, p<0.001) with high inorganic suspended solids (NVSS). In-lake TP in the headwaters was mainly influenced by the watershed runoff and declined toward the dam. Values of TP downlake was only one-fifth of the peak in the headwaters and had no correlation with NVSS. In 1994, inlake TP was markedly lower relative to 1993 and showed low spatial and temporal variation. Maximum TP during monsoon 1994 in the headwaters and mid-lake was 72% and 52% lower, respectively, than in those two zones in 1993 whereas TP downlake was similar between the two years. These results suggest that temporal variation downlake is much less influenced by seasonal inflow compared to the haedwaters. In 1993, mean TP before fall overturn, based on average value for all sites, was significantly (t=5.99, p<0.001) greater than the mean after fall overturn, whereas in 1994 mean TP after fall overturn (32 ${\mu}$g/l) was greater. This outcome indicates that in 1993 major P-input originated from the external source from the watershed during the intense monsoon, whereas in 1994 internal processes dominated during the weak monsoon. Overall data suggest that annual budget of inlake P is regulated by intensity of the summer monsoon, and phosphorus data measured at single site near the dam or headwater zone may not be represent seasonal trends of the system due to large spatial variation of Taechung Reservoir.
One of the most important purpose of multi-purpose reservoir is storing a large amount of water for utilization in a dry season. However, multi-purpose reservoirs that were constructed according to the limited hydrologic information available at the time of construction may encounter problems such as decreased water inflow due to climate change and an inability to cope with a water shortage. To solve these problems, in 2015, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport suggested a revised water supply standard in case of water shortage for reservoirs. However, the revised standard has not been sufficiently discussed to determine its effectiveness. In addition, multi-purpose reservoirs in South Korea have secured and stored water for emergencies, but there is currently no way to utilize the stored water. Determining how to utilize the stored water effectively may be a useful method for preparing drought. Therefore, this article discusses the revised water supply standard as it relates to a water shortage in reservoirs and a method of utilizing the water stored for emergencies in multi-purpose reservoirs. The options for utilizing the water storage were evaluated using a water shortage safety degree index, and the results showed that the options may slightly and limitedly increase the water supply capacity. However, the evaluation also showed that a complex application of two options may overcome the exisiting problem and to supply water more effectively.
The objective of this study is to evaluate TOPLATS land surface model performance through comparison of results of water and energy balance analysis. The study area is selected Nakdong river basin and high resolution hydrometeorological components of which spatio-temporal resolution is 1 hr and 1 km are simulated during 2003 to 2013. The simulated daily and monthly depth of flows are well fitted with the observed one on Andong and Hapcheon dam basin. In results of diurnally analysis of energy components, change pattern throughout the day of net radiation, latent heat, sensible heat, and ground heat under energy balance analysis have higher accuracy than ones under water balance analysis at C3 and C4 sites. Especially, root mean square errors of net radiation and latent heat at C4 site are shown very low as 22.18 $W/m^2$ and 7.27 $W/m^2$, respectively. Mean soil moisture and evapotranspiration in summer and winter are simulated as 36.80%, 33.08% and 222.40 mm, 59.95 mm, respectively. From this result, when we need high resolution hydrometeorological components, energy balance analysis is more reasonable than water balance analysis. And this results will be used for monitor and forecast of weather disaster like flood and draught using spatial hydrometeorological information.
Water budget analysis in the groundwater system was conducted in order to understand water budget distributions in the ground water system in Geum-gang watershed. The annual amounts of precipitation, runoff, evapotranspiration, dam storage change and water supply over the sub-watershed in Geum-gang watershed were evaluated the residual groundwater from 2002 to 2006, based on the water budget considering inflow and outflow. Then we are able to expect residual groundwater of each sub-basin. According to the result of study, the year 2003 and 2006 were recorded the highest and the lowest precipitation value, respectively. Average run-off percentage against precipitation was 60.44%. Annual evapotranspiration in each of years didn't show the remarkable variations but the values were high in the lower reaches of the basin. The residual waters in Geum-gang basin were determined to be 133.36 in 2002, 77.64 in 2003, -19.40 in 2004, -82.25 in 2005 and -128.07 mm in 2006. The residual water in Geum-gang basin was high in the main and up stream such as Maepo. Also the residual water showed low distributions in Nonsan and Seokhwa.
This Study deals with the comparative analysis on the estimation of surface soil erosion volume between South and North Korea using RUSLE model in Imjin River basin located on DMZ of Central Korea. Comparatively North Korea areas have been more eroded three times as much as South Korea parts. Because of cropland development such as com Held in the hillslope, in North Korea, more surface soil erosion and transportation to the river bed has given rise to frequent flood hazards. It seems that the study can dedicate to mitigation of environmental problems such as soil erosion and flooding in unaccessible Imjin River basin located on DMZ.

This study is to develop a web-based real-time agricultural flood management system(RAFMS) for 378 agricultural reservoirs equipped with auto water level gauge stations. The RAFMS was designed to operate linking with Rural Agricultural Water Resource Information System(RAWRIS) which supports data viz. real-time rainfall and water level necessary for RAFMS. The system was constituted to monitor the floods simultaneously at each reservoir by calculating the real-time reservoir inflow from watersheds, water level, and release to downstream. In addition, the system has the prediction function for the flood by applying weather forecasting data from Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA).
This study hydrologically re-analysed the Muskingum channel routing method to represent it as a linear combination of the linear channel model considering only the translation and the linear reservoir model considering only the storage effect. The resulting model becomes a kind of instantaneous unit hydrograph, whose parameters are identical to those of the Muskingum model. That is, the outflow occurs after the routing interval ${\Delta}t$ or concentration time $T_c$, and among the total amount of inflow, the x portion is translated by the linear channel model and the remaining (1-x) portion is routed by the linear reservoir model with the storage coefficient $K_c$. The application result of both the Muskingum channel routing method and its corresponding instantaneous unit hydrograph to an imaginary channel showed that these two models are basically identical. This result was also assured by the application to the channel flood routing to the Kumnam and Gongju Station for the discharge from the Daechung Dam.
The generated sequences of monthly flows were analyzed based on the range concept. With the optimum operation rule of the reservoirs as the one which maximizes the wateruse downstream the waterrelease from the reservoir was determined and with \ulcorner consideration to the mean inflows and the range of monthly flows the required reservoirs capacity was stochastically determind. It is suggested that the result obtained in this study would be applied to approximately estimate, in the stage of preliminary design, the required capacity of a reservoir in question with the limited information such as the mean monthly inflow and the period of reservoir operation. For the determination of a reservoir capacity Rippl's mass-curve method has been long used with the past river flow data assuming the same flow records will be repeated in the future. This study aims to find out a better method for determining the reservoir capacity by employing the analytical theory based on the stochastic process. For the present study the synthetic generation methods of Thomas-Fiering type was used to synthetically generate 50 years of monthly river inflows to three single-purpose reservoirs and three multi-purpose reservoirs.

BACKGROUND: To investigate distribution and seasonal variation of concentration and flux of pesticides in Han river basin, water samples were examined at 24 sites in 2012 and 2014. METHODS AND RESULTS: Water samples were collected four times per year and subjected to liquid-liquid partition extraction followed by GC-ECD/NPD analysis. Of fifteen pesticides detected, iprobenfos, diazinon, isoprothiolane, endosulfan sulfate and oxadiazon were detected in a higher frequency, while fenoxanil, carbofuran, fenitrothion, butachlor and metolachlor were only detected in a sample. Pesticides with high occurrences, iprobenfos, diazinon, isoprothiolane, endosulfan sulfate and oxadiazon were detected in residue level of 0.01-0.46, 0.01-0.24, 0.03-0.85, 0.02-0.06 and 0.05-0.24 ㎍/L, respectively. Carbofuran and acetanilide herbicides were found at lower frequencies, but their concentrations were one order of magnitude higher than those of the others. CONCLUSION: Discharge of pesticides in downstream area were mainly contributed from rice farming and suburban horticulture, while pesticide occurrences in upstream area, such as Donggang river basin were caused by highland agriculture for cabbage and potato production. Despite the influx of pesticides from tributaries through intensive agriculture areas, pesticide concentration in the main stream water was low due to the dilution effect from the upstream. Therefore, the water quality was considered to be good at the most downstream, the effluent of Paldang dam.
