  • This study analyzed the moderating effect of mindfulness on the relationship between college students' mental health and college life adjustment. The study subjects were 246 college students. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows. First, the group with high satisfaction regarding their major showed significantly higher mindfulness and college life adjustment than the group with low satisfaction. Second, ta negative correlation was found between mental health(hypochondriasis, depression, psychopathic deviate, paranoia, schizophrenia, introversion) and mindfulness. Third, a significant negative correlation was found between mental health (depression, psychopathic deviate, paranoia, psychasthenia, schizophrenia, introversion) and college life adjustment. Fourth, mindfulness positively impacted college life adaptation. Fifth, mindfulness also had a significant moderating effect on the relationship between mental health (depression, psychopathic deviate, psychasthenia, schizophrenia, introversion) and college life adjustment. Thus, this study focused on the role and importance of mindfulness as a way to improve mental health and adjustment among college students.

Methods: A total of 472 students (47% men; 53% women) in four universities in Korea participated in this study. The following instruments were used the Reasons for Drinking Questionnaire (RFDQ) and the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). Results: In results the mean AUDIT was 9.6 (${\pm}5.4$) for men and 6.4 (${\pm}4.7$) for women, and there were high correlations between the AUDIT score and the reasons for drinking. The factors related with AUDIT score were age, the age of first smoking, and social reasons for drinking in men, but religion, age of first smoking, and negative reasons for drinking in women. • Background/Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of eating habits and self-efficacy on health promotion behavior and to improve the quality of life in each life cycle. Methods/Statistical analysis: This study is a narrative research study for nursing students at university B in C city. The data were analyzed by SPSSWIN 18.0, t-test, ANOVA and bonferroni post test, Pearson correlation coefficient calculation and multiple regression analysis. Findings: Health promotion behaviors were positively correlated with eating habits and self-efficacy. Multiple regression analysis showed that 53.8% of the parents, caregivers, health status, eating habits, and self - efficacy of the nursing students showed the health promotion behaviors of the nursing students. The higher the self-efficacy(t=6.06, p<.001), the better the health-promoting behaviors(t=3.28, p=.001). Application/mprovements: Development of programs for strengthening health education and self-efficacy is required for proper eating habits and health promotion.

  • This is a convergence study to investigate the factors affecting the physical health status of college students and to present a strategy for effective program development. The participants of this study were 200 college students in a region and collected data by self-reported questionnaire. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results were as follows: 1) The physical-health status of the college students was positively correlated with the subjective perception of health status(${\beta}=-.323$, p<.01), health awareness(${\beta}=-.278$, p<.01), gender(${\beta}=-.197$, p<.01), and breakfast habit(${\beta}=-.192$, p<.01). And the explanatory power($R_2$) by 4 variables was 33.1%. As a result, it was confirmed that strengthening subjective perception, positive reinforcement of health awareness, and habit of breakfast were important for improvement of physical health status. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a health promotion program based on the factors influencing on the physical health status and to analyze its application effect.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a health education program on the health promoting behavior and self-efficacy in university students and evaluate its effects. Method: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The subjects were 148 students [experimental(N=80) and control(N=68) groups] from a university in J City. The experimental group members participated in thirteen sessions of a health education program for fifteen weeks and the degree of their health promoting behavior and self efficacy was evaluated. The instruments for this study were the health promoting lifestyle profile developed by Walker et al.(1987) and self-efficacy scale developed by Sherer & Maddux(1982). Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, t-tests, and paired t-test using SPSS 10.0. Result: The experimental group had a significantly higher health promoting behavior score(F=10.389, p=.002) than the control group, while no significant difference was found in the self-efficacy score(F=.481. p=.489). Conclusion: The results suggest that the health education program can be utilized as an effective program to promote health promoting behavior in university students.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this descriptive study was to identify predictors on health promoting behaviors of university students. Methods: The participants were 310 students by convenience sampling in G city. The data were collected through a questionnaire given to the students between September 10 to November 6, 2006. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression were used to analyze the data. Results: The mean score for the level of health promoting behaviors and optimism was 2.60(${\pm} .31$) and 2.70(${\pm} .55$) respectively. The most frequently used coping skill was the pursuit of social support. There were positive correlations between health promoting behaviors and optimism, between health promoting behaviors and active coping skill, and between health promoting behaviors and passive coping skill. In stepwise multiple regression analysis, the most powerful predictor of health promoting behaviors was active coping skill. Conclusion: The results suggest that coping skills with optimism can be considered when developing a health promotion program for university students.

  • This experimental research is aimed to apply a health promotion program based on Cox's interaction model to such college students as are on the brink of dyslipidemia, so as to investigate the effects of the program on the subjects' blood lipid indexes including total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoproteins (LDL). The subjects are 39 in all including the experimental group comprising 20 and the control group comprising 19. The analyses applied include descriptive statistics using SPSS WIN 18.0, $X^2$-test, independent t-test, and paired t-test. By means of nursing interventions which are an element of client-professional interaction, the following were offered including health information (exercise management, dietary management, health education), emotional support (sharing of experiences, encouragement, self expression), decision-making controlling (counselling by phone), and professional/ technical abilities; and blood lipid indexes were measured before and after the interventions. The results of this research found that TC, TG and LDL decreased significantly and HDL increased significantly in the experimental group, which indicates that the health promotion program was effective.
