Qualitative Study on Organizational Culture of an Academic Library: A Case Study of New Millennium Library (대학도서관 조직문화에 대한 질적 연구 - 새천년 도서관 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the culture of an academic library, fictitiously titled the New Millennium Library(NML). The study employed various research methods: pilot interviews with academic library workers, field observation at NML, a value survey conducted among NML workers and structured interviews with selected volunteers fromthe pool of survey respondents. Information gathered on the NML's culture is presented in a chart of five cultural dimensions and three organizational layers. The study is expected to inform library culture research as well as organizational culture research through a utilization of mixed methodology.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate factors influencing individual job satisfaction and organizational commitment for maximizing organizational performance. And it aims not only for analyzing direct effects of organizational human resource management system on organizational achievement, but also for ones of high commitment system with empowerment, organizational justice, organizational culture, turnover intention and so on. Also, instead of measuring the achievement of organizational and individual level respectively, this study shows the integrated model of correlation between organizational human resource management and individual achievement.

  • This study attempts to identify use of information technology In university libraries and to analyze the relationship between utilization of information technology and organizational culture of university libraries. A questionnaire developed through literature review is used to survey staff in university libraries. In conclusion, utilization of information technology by librarian and rational goal model of culture have negative relation and two variables are correlated at .05 significant level.

A New Paradigm for Subject-oriented Service System of University Library (대학도서관의 주제별 운영을 위한 새로운 패러다임)

  • Although university libraries run by the subject-oriented serviec systems are increasing more and more, many problems are emerging as a result of tying out the subject classification of the sources without an enough advance knowledge, consideration of reality, and the study about effective management of subject-oriented sum system. Through the research of 37 university libraries run by the system of subject-oriented service, it was proved that for the effective subject-oriented service system, the reasonable classification of the subjects, considering the form and structure of the building, the number of users on each subject and the organization of the collection, and the subject librarians, who would take charge of subject-oriented service systems are indispensable. Therefore, the subject-oriented service system to be rooted strongly, the role model of the subject-oriented service system adequate to the reality of Korean university libraries should be developed, and the efforts of the people on the spot such as acquiring enough supports and training of the subject librarians should be arranged.

  • University libraries need the development of a common Internet-based reference request system in order to prevent duplicated investment and provide interoperability among them. This paper proposes a standard of Internet-based reference recluest system that serves reference request-responses and that provides reference source sites on the world wide web. Using this system, university libraries can cooperate other libraries with reference databases and may perform tasks of reference service efficiently.

  • 본 연구는 대학도서관의 효율적인 조직구조의 형성방안을 위하여 대학 도서관 조직구조의 상황변수, 기본변수, 구조형태 및 조직유효성 간에 상호영향을 미치는 요인을 규명하고자 한 것으로서 이론적인 배경을 토대로 연구모형을 설계한 후에 실증적인 검증을 시도하였다. 이 검증을 위하여 상황변수는 환경, 기술, 규모, 전략유형, 권력유형을 채택하고, 기본변수는 복잡화, 공식화, 집권화를 채택하였으며, 구조형태는 단순조직, 기능별조직, 분관조직, 주제별조직(I)(II)로 구분하였고, 조직유효성 변수는 능률성, 유연성, 정보자료관리 및 만족성을 채택하였으며, 만족성은 조직몰입과 직무만족으로 세분하였다. 연구결과 조직구조의 상황변수, 기본변수 및 구조형태는 상호간에 영향을 주며, 궁극적으로 조직유효성에 영향을 주지만 그 내용은 극히 미약한 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 모든 측면에서 조직유효성이 높은 조직은 없고, 조직유효성에 영향을 미치는 구조형태는 극히 미약한 것으로 분석되었다.

  • As a follow-up of the study on the marketing effect of undergraduates' work experience in university libraries(Choi 2012), this study aims to identify differences in the library loyalty of student employees by the managerial characteristics of student employees and analyzes the loyalty of the acquaintances of the student employees to identify the word-of-mouth marketing effect by behavioral loyalty of student employees. Based on the results from the analyses, we discuss the possibility of the management of student employees as a marketing activities in university libraries to the whole undergraduate student.

The Problems and Solutions of the Team System of University Libraries in Korea (한국의 대학도서관 팀제의 문제점과 개선방안)

  • This study was conducted to find out how the team organization works and to suggest better ways of applying the team system to a library organization. In this study, the survey was conducted to examine the characteristics of the university libraries that have adopted the team system, and the problems in operation were analysed. The findings indicate that staffs at the university libraries had a comparatively negative image of the team system, and that university library has provided insufficient training and less supports for their staffs in the process of adopting the system. This study might be applicable to any strategy which seeks to reduce bureaucracy, empower staff, create a team system culture. and enhance the delivery of high qualify services.

  • 효율성 평가는 그동안 주로 영리를 추구하는 기업들의 주된 관심사였다. 이에 반해 학교, 도서관 및 정부단체 등 비영리조직을 대상으로 한 성과평가는 이들 조직의 존립목적이 특별할 뿐만 아니라 조직활동의 성과인 산출물에 대한 계량화가 어렵다는 이유로 방치되어 왔다. 그러나 최근 들어 비영리조직에 대한 효율성이 이슈로 등장하면서 이러한 기관을 대상으로 한 효율성 측정방법론에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있다. 프랑스의 경우, 공공서비스의 효율성 또는 생산성 측정의 방안으로 가장 널리 이용되고 있는 방법론은 전문가집단에 의한 항목별 평가다.
