As artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a promising future technology among the fourth industrial revolution, we are trying to apply artificial intelligence technology across all area of society, including libraries. This study investigated the effects, issues, and implications of artificial intelligence on university library services. As a research method, in-depth interviews were conducted with IT experts of university libraries in North America, and conclusions and discussion were drawn from interview results and related documents. Research results revealed that university libraries in North America were trying to build an infrastructure that facilitates information access and retrieval based on artificial intelligence systems and to provide new services in collaboration with AI research institutes in universities. This study raised issues regarding the expansion of the role of libraries and librarians, privacy, and data quality. It was also discussed that the need for re-education of university librarians to become software engineers who play a role in disseminating knowledge. In addition, this study suggested the investment for the establishment of the information system and an artificial intelligence research center in the library. The study discussed limitations of research due to changes in the research environment and suggestions for future research.

This study aims to investigate the influence of undergraduate students' personal characteristics on the use behaviors of library mobiles and its contents. We used gender, major, grade, university, perceived usefulness, personal innovativeness, and smartphone dependency variables to measure their personal characteristics. We conducted a survey with 309 undergraduate students who belong to two universities. The results showed that the major, grade, perceived usefulness, and innovativeness variables significantly influenced the use frequency of library mobiles, while the gender, major, university, and smartphone dependency ones did the use pattern of library mobile contents. Based on the results, we proposed three methods for constructing an efficient university library mobile.

Libraries have a variety of resources due to the endless changes of the library environment. Electronic resources have become the one of the important library resources. As an electronic resource, e-Book has emerged recently and is worth of notice to be a great resource in the libraries. This study reviews the history and special features of the e-Book. This paper analyzes the functions and problems of e-Book and changes of the library services related e-Book. The purpose of the study is to point out the problems and suggest the possible solutions of e-Book usages in the university libraries by the survey.

Libraries both in South Korea and abroad have been adopting 3D printers and related service. This indicates the need for documented 3D printer use policy to facilitate the service. This study investigates 3D printer use policies of libraries in Korea and best practices of the United States, and suggests contents for 3D printer use policies in Korea. The finding shows that Korean libraries with 3D printers did not have systematic and documented 3D printer use policies. After conducting content analysis of 16 best practices of 3D printer use policies from libraries in the United States, the authors identified five themes (purpose, users, procedures, limitations of use, and liability) and 21 sub-themes. The findings are informative for Korean libraries to develop 3D printer use policies and to understand various considerations in implementing 3D printer services.

효율성 평가는 그동안 주로 영리를 추구하는 기업들의 주된 관심사였다. 이에 반해 학교, 도서관 및 정부단체 등 비영리조직을 대상으로 한 성과평가는 이들 조직의 존립목적이 특별할 뿐만 아니라 조직활동의 성과인 산출물에 대한 계량화가 어렵다는 이유로 방치되어 왔다. 그러나 최근 들어 비영리조직에 대한 효율성이 이슈로 등장하면서 이러한 기관을 대상으로 한 효율성 측정방법론에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있다. 프랑스의 경우, 공공서비스의 효율성 또는 생산성 측정의 방안으로 가장 널리 이용되고 있는 방법론은 전문가집단에 의한 항목별 평가다. The rapid advances in information technologies have resulted in not only the proliferation of the amount of information available but also the variety of information formats. Information literacy is the set of skills needed to find, retrieve, analyze, and use information. Therefore, information literacy which should be the core goal of the university education has been a new trend of the library instruction. Nevertheless, despite the increasing Interest in the information literacy. there has been little discussion about educational Programs. and there has been little coordination between faculty and librarians on the programs. Under such circumstances, campus-wide teamwork is needed so that the library instruction can become part of the entire learning Processes of university education. This Paper presents an overview of the models adopted by foreign university libraries and also analyses the successful cases of the campus-wide partnership of each model of information literacy programs. Based on these. the outline of the needed procedure for the enforcement of the information literacy in the university of our country is suggested.

The purpose of this study is to suggest ways to improve development plans of academic libraries in Korea, comparing development plans of academic libraries in Korea and strategic plans of academic libraries in advanced countries. For this purpose, development plans and strategic plans of academic libraries in and out of Korea were collected and analyzed. And a rubric evaluation was applied to the case plans. The findings indicate that development plans of academic libraries in Korea are written for present problems and individual work, and lack mission and vision statement. On the other hand, strategic plans of academic libraries in advanced countries present distinct mission and vision statement, and set up goals, objectives, concrete activities in the framework. As a conclusion, this study suggests that academic libraries in Korea need mission statement and vision statement, task force of librarians, links among mission and vision and concrete activities. This study can contribute for librarians of academic libraries to develop strategic plans in Korea. This study can be used as a basic consideration for the establishment and evaluation of strategic plans at academic libraries in Korea. As follow-up studies, further case study about academic library which develops and activates strategic plan in Korea, comparative study on development plans and strategic plans of national libraries and public libraries in Korea and overseas are needed.

Many university libraries, facing financial difficulties, have been forced to operate on a tighter budget. Such trend has created the need for an objective standard that will prioritize current library services. This study derives service quality factor via open coding from internet postings posted in the last five years on the Korean National Open University's library website, and also calculates the customer satisfaction quotient and dissatisfaction quotient using the Kano Model and Timko's Customer Satisfaction Coefficient. The result draws 25 service quality factors across 3 categories consisting of: (i) 8 attractive qualities, (ii) 15 one-dimensional qualities and (iii) 2 reverse qualities. The study, through the calculation of Timko's Customer Satisfaction Coefficient per service quality, proposes an intensive service that can prioritize the efficient use of library budget.

This study, by case investigation of book review, one of user-participation services in university library, and questionnaire investigation on librarians, aims at suggesting current statuses, problems, and improvement. This study investigated the services performed at 35 4-year universities establishing the department of library and information science. This study, except 7 ones which doesn't offer the service, investigated the service offered by 28 universities, classifying with 3 contents. As a result, the publicity and method in university library including event had an influence on use. This study was performed to increase participation rate and to promote reading activity. This study judged that book review is indispensible to university libraries. Libraries presented the opinions that, for the purpose of promoting active book review, libraries have to perform positive publicity, attractive event, support in the level of schools, librarians' wills, expansion of discussion cultures, offer of unified book review among universities, and linkage method with other organization reading program.
