Throughput Performance of Slotted ALOHA Communication System with Guard Time and Capture Effect (신호점유 현상과 보호시간을 고려한 슬롯형 알로아 통신 시스템의 성능분석)

  • In a bursty user traffic mode, ALOHA random multiple access protocol achieves higher performance than any conventional fixed assignment technique. One of central problems in slotted ALOHA is synchronization. Because of the long propagation delay in satellite mobile communication, packet may be spilt over into adjacent slots and thus guard time may be included between packet intervals. In conventional ALOHA channels, simultaneous transmission by two or more users results in a collision : the unsuccessful packets have to be retransmitted according to some retransmission algorithm. However, in a radio environment, users are often at different distances from the receiver : therefore, their received signals have substantially different power levels. The packet arriving with the highest energy now has a good chance of being detected accurately. Similarly, in some spread-spectrum random access systems, the earliest arriving packet dominates later arriving packets and thus captures the channel. In this paper slotted ALOHA channel with non zero guard time and capture probability is studied. Using the Markovian model, the performance of slotted ALOHA with guard time and capture effects is derived and compared with that of the conventional ALOHA via numerical analysis.

  • In this paper, we measured and analyzed propagation characteristics in a subway tunnel that is recently increasingly becoming one of the radio communication environments. The measurements are carried out in a subway tunnel with frequency bands of 2.45㎓ and 5.8㎓. The length of tunnel we used for this study is 175m of LOS (Line-of-sight) and 270m of NLOS (Non Line-of-Sight). The subway tunnel is curved and its cross section is horseshoe type. The measurement systems we employ in this study are a narrow-band system and a wide-band system. The narrow-band system is used to get path loss measurement and the wide-band system is used to figure out delay profile measurement. In particular, the wide-band system consists of 1023 length PN sequence generator using a chip rate of 80MHz based on a sliding correlation technique. The omni-directional antennas and directional antennas are used to analyze propagation characteristics for beam type of antenna. The path loss displays only pure path loss of a tunnel environment. The delay profile indicates the mean excess delay and RMS (root mean square) delay spread.

Adaptive Synchronization Method of Frequency Hopping Communications (주파수도약 통신의 적응동기 방법)

  • In frequency hopping spread spectrum(FHSS) communication systems, exact frequency synchronization is required due to the random hopping of carrier frequencies between transmitter and receiver even under harsh channel conditions. For synchronization of FHSS communications, multi-frequency hopping synchronization(MFHS) method has been used in which a small set of frequencies are repeatedly sent several times for long duration. But this long duration resulted in being easily detected by the unauthorized users as well as long duration of acquisition time. In this paper, motivated by these problems, an adaptive synchronization method(ASM) is proposed. ASM is technics to reduce the synchronization time where the number of synchronization frequencies and repetition numbers is adaptively changed (increased or decreased) according to the channel conditions. The performance analysis showed that the time duration of synchronization was reduced to 0.2sec, and the influence of jamming or interference was decreased to 46% in ASM.

  • The Bluetooth technology represents an attractive approach to enable short distance wireless connectivity. The Bluetooth standard operates at the 2.4 GHz ISM band and offers the advantage of establishing ad hoc networks, called piconet and scatternet. The spread of Bluetooth implementation in consumer products opens up a new short range wireless networking applications. Bluetooth MAC avoids packet collision within a piconet by simple time multiplexing. But lack of synchronization among independent neighboring piconets introduces packet overlapping within a time slot. In this paper, the wireless network throughput of Bluetooth packet transmission system applying the pure-ALOHA and slotted-ALOHA MAC is investigated according to the impact of channel environment. From the obtained results, the throughput of the Bluetooth MAC protocol shown to offer good performance in wireless channel, and the results are useful for the implementation of Bluetooth networks.

  • We propose optimal interference rejection weight for multistage parallel nulling (MPN) partial parallel interference cancellation (PPIC) receiver previously proposed to enhance the performance of V-BLAST for downlink multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) multicarrier (MC)-code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. MPN-PPIC method proposed in [1] was based on the parallel interference cancellation (PIC) with fixed interference rejection weight obtained experimentally. However, the fixed weight can not be adapted to various systems efficiently, thus we proposed method for the optimal interference rejection weight based on the received signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR), and the performance of the proposed method was evaluated through computer simulation comparing with the previous method. We obtained performance gains of 2.5 dB ~ 5 dB for BER of 10$^{-3}$ .

  • In this paper, we quantiatively analyze the broadband CDMA systems with high chip rate, which virually eliminates the multipath fading effects by distinguishing each reflected paths in the process of despreading. We model the broadband multipath propagation channel with random time-variant impulse response as a linear filter of tapped delay line to evaluate the performance of broadband CDMA systems in multipath fading environment. This statistical model, based on extensive experimental data, was established to characterize the urban radio propagation medium in various environments. We perform computer simulation of the transmission and reception of broadband CDMA systems by applying it to abve channel model. From the simulation results, we confirm that the broadband CDMA systems inherenly reduce the effects of multipath fading phenomena which causes to degrade the performance of mobile communication systems, based on the results of eye-diagram and BER curve.

Optimization and Improvements of Field Uniformity in a Reverberation Chamber with Schroeder Diffusers (Schroeder 확산기를 이용한 전자파 잔향실내의 필드 균일도 향상 및 최적화에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents an improvement of field uniformity in a reverberation chamber with QRDs(Quadratic Residue Diffuser) and also shows the optimal dimension of the QRDs. The QRD is designed for $1{\sim}3\;GHz$ frequency band and the FDTD(finite-Difference Time-Domain) method is used to analyze the field characteristics. At 2 GHz, the standard deviation of test volume in the reverberation chamber is the smallest when the QRD has $30{\sim}60\;%$ coverage of one side of the reverberation chamber and the field uniformity is worsened when the coverage of the QRD is either below 20 % or above 70 % of the area of the side wall. Particularly, the standard deviation of test volume in the reverberation chamber with 30 % coverage of QRD is improved by 1.53 dB compared to that of the reference chamber with no QRDs.

Performance Analysis of DMF Acquisition System in Frequency-Selective Rayleigh Fading Channel (주파수 선택적 레일리 페이딩 채널에서의 DMF 초기동기 장치의 성능분석)

  • In frequency selective channels, conventional PN code acquisition schemes are not ideal candidates. This is because they are primarily designed for the AWGN channel. In this paper, a direct-sequence spread-spectrum(DSSS) PN code acquisition system based on digital matched filtering (DMF) with automatic threshold control(ATC) algorithm is presented and analyzed with regards to probability of detection and probability of false alarm. These two important probabilities, the probability of detection ($P_D$) and the probability of false alarm ($P_{FA}$) are derived and analyzed in considering Doppler shift, sampling rate, mean acquisition time, and PN chip rate in frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel when using serial-search method as detection technique. From computer simulation results of a DMF acquisition system model, it is shown that the performance of the acquisition system using ATC algorithm is better than that of constant threshold system.

Dual-Cell Combining Detection Method for Reduction of Residual Frequency Offset Influence on Code Acquisition Systems (나머자 옵셋이 부호획득 시스템에 미치는 영향을 줄이기 위한 듀얼셀 결합 검파 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose a new detection method called dual-cell combining (DCC) detection for the acquisition in time of spread spectrum codes in the presence of residual frequency offset (RFO). When the RFO exists, the correlation peak used for detection during the acquisition process is split into two neighboring peaks with smaller amplitudes, resulting in considerable degradation in the overall acquisition performance of conventional methods. In the DCC detection method, the decision variable for detection is formed by combining two consecutive correlator outputs so that the influence of the reduction in the correlation peak due to the RFO can be alleviated. Numerical results show that the DCC detection method can offer better mean-time-to-synchrouization performance than the conventional method based on the cell-by-cell detection.

  • Recently, Population has been concentrated in cities due to rapid economic growth. As a result, urban buildings are becoming more dense, high-rise, and diversified. The shape of these urban buildings increases the risk of fire, accidents and crime. The narrow living space has the characteristic of the unchanged floor. In case of a fire, the living space of the narrow residence is large in the damage because the smoke diffusion rate is fast. The radio wave transmittance and transmission distance of wireless communication used in fire fighting operations vary depending on the type of building materials and buildings. Therefore, this paper analyzes the building materials and structural characteristics of the narrow residential space for efficient fire fighting operations. We have developed a communication environment solution for a narrow residential space for the optimal fire fighting operation through the measurement of the radio wave transmittance and the transmission distance of the wireless communication.
