Highly Differentiated and segmented social insurance scheme in Taiwan shows its salient dimension of stratification, which has been considered as a general feature of conservative welfare regime. However, compared to Western conservative welfare states, Taiwan's social insurance scheme shows a distinct feature. First, Taiwan's social insurance scheme has offered a full coverage for various benefits. Secondly, Labor Insurance and Government employees' Insurance reveal distinct features of stratification. Labor Insurance has developed a universalistic system based on status equality and cross-class solidarity of working classes while Government employees' Insurance includes a myriad of occupational- and status-based programs. This article aims to articulate the historical origin of Taiwan's unique social insurance scheme and explains it as an unintended result of state's political intervention and various interests of each insured groups, especially, politically, economically, and ethnically conflicting identities of government employees and working classes.

In the 1980s, the rapid development of Hong Kong genre films began the myth of Hong Kong's New Wave films, which had a profound impact on Taiwanese films of the same period. Later, two leading film directors, Hou Xiaoxien and Edward Yang, appeared in the process of being influenced by Taiwanese film Ganyu Wave. In this paper, we conducted research on the art style, theme style, film language, and aesthetic narrative methods of films of Hou Xiaoxien and Edward Yang against the backdrop of Taiwan's New Wave era. In addition, the visual characteristics of Taiwan's New Wave films, and the two directors have drawn suggestions on Taiwan's new generation of directors and the Taiwanese film industry, and presented a colorful film creation scheme for the creation and innovation of the new generation of filmmakers.

This research examines individual attitudes toward immigration and the determinants of these attitudes in Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. Using 2003 National Identity module from ISSP data, descriptive statistics showed that Taiwan seems to be the most opposed to immigration, Japan in the middle, and Korea the least opposed. Despite being the least opposed to immigration, Koreans agreed most strongly with having a homogeneous sense of ethnic identity. In addition, Korean respondents saw immigrants are being good for the national economy, but not for cultural diversity. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that age is negatively associated with the individual's attitude toward immigrants in Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. Effects of educational attainment is only significant in Taiwan. Manual worker and others, and those who work in farming, mining, and fishing tend to have negative attitudes toward increases in number of immigrants. Also, individual's values toward immigrants/immigration are related to the individual's attitude toward increases in number of immigrants in Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.

This study deals with 8 species in 6 genera including 5 new species and 2 new records from Taiwan. The new ones are Neanura kentingensis n.sp., Womersleya formosana n.sp., Crossodinthina montana n.sp., Vitronura tubercula sp., Lobella nana n.sp., and 2 new records are Pseudachorucina nepalica Yosii, 1966 and Lobella perfusa Denis., 1934. The Neanuridae fauna of Taiwan accordingly is listed as 13 species in 7 genera. The biogeographic affinities with the Japan, Vietnam and adjacent countries are discussed.

A barotropic model is run over the Northwest Pacific Ocean to examine the formation and transport of the Tsushima Warm Current. The results indicate that the Tsushima Warm Current is a downstream extension of the Taiwan Warm Current. Local wind does not change the amount of transport of Tsushima Warm Current but it changes much the initial flow pattern of Tsushima Warm Current such that for southerly wind, the transport is through the Taiwan Strait but for northerly wind, it is through the eastern side of Taiwan.

우리나라와 축산물(돼지고기) 등의 무역이 활발한 동북아의 국가인 대만은 1930년 구제역의 최종 발생보고 이후 약 47년간 비발생 상태를 유지해 왔었다. 1997년 3월 20일 오전 11:00경 대만에 구제역이 발생하였다는 대만정부의 공식발표에 따라 우리나라에서는 동일자로 대만산 우제류 동물 및 그 생산물의 수입금지를 전면적으로 실시함과 동시에 `97. 2. 17. 이후 도축되어 우리나라에 수입된 돼지고기에 대하여 전량 반송조치토록 수입자에게 통보하는 등 구제역의 국내유입 차단을 위한 정부차원의 여러가지 조치 등을 지속적으로 취하고 있다. 이에 필자들은 미국의 농무성 동식물검역청(USDA, APHIS)에서 구제역 발생 및 구제역바이러스의 전파위험도를 분석한 자료 (Foot-and-Mouth Disease : Soures of Outbreaks and Hazard Categorization of Modes of Virus Transmission, December. 1994, USDA : APHIS : VS, Centers for Epidemiology and Animal Health)를 소개함으로써 구제역바이러스의 국내 유입방지 대책을 위한 기초자료로 제시하고자 한다.

Hospice and palliative care in Taiwan has been growing continuously. The 2015 Quality of Death index, as rated by the Economist Intelligence Unit, ranked Taiwan first among Asian countries and sixth in the world. In this review article, we highlight three particular areas that might have contributed to this success; the laws and regulations, spiritual care and research network. Finally, we discuss the future challenges and prospects for Taiwanese encounters. A systemic review was conducted with the keywords "hospice palliative care Taiwan" using PubMed. The passing of the "Natural Death Act" in 2000 set the example and established a landmark for patient autonomy in Asia; it guarantees the patient's right to request that medical staff do not resuscitate (DNR) them and to reject other futile medical treatments at the end of their life, thus reflecting the importance of palliative care from the policy perspective. In 2015, Taiwan passed another pioneering law entitled the "Patient Autonomy Act". This law states that a patient may decline medical treatment according to his/her own will. Taiwanese indigenous spiritual care was launched in 2000. It requires a Buddhist Chaplain to successfully complete a training program consisting of lectures, as well as bedside practicum before applying Buddhist practices to end-of-life care. The Japan-Korea-Taiwan research network was established for the purpose of enabling collaborative research for the East-Asian collaborative cross-cultural Study to Elucidate the Dying process (EASED) cohort. With consensus from the government and society to make it a priority, hospice and palliative medicine in Taiwan has been growing steadily.
