A Study on the Prediction of Gate In-Out Truck Waiting Time in the Container Terminal (컨테이너 터미널 내 반출입 차량 대기시간 예측에 관한 연구)

  • Due to the increase in container cargo volume, the congestion of container terminals is increasing and the waiting time of gate in-out trucks has significantly lengthened at container yards and gates, resulting in severe inefficiency in gate in-out truck operations as well as port operations. To resolve this problem, the Busan Port Authority and terminal operator provide services such VBS, terminal congestion information, and expected operation processing time information. However, the visible effect remains insufficient, as it may differ from actual waiting time.. Thus, as basic data to resolve this problem, this study presents deep learning based average gate in-out truck waiting time prediction models, using container gate in-out information at Busan New Port. As a result of verifying the predictive rate through comparison with the actual average waiting time, it was confirmed that the proposed predictive models showed high predictive rate.

A Review on Ocean Acidification and Factors Affecting It in Korean Waters (우리나라 주변 바다의 산성화 현황과 영향 요인 분석)

  • The ocean is a significant sink for atmospheric anthropogenic CO2, absorbing one-third of the total CO2 emitted by human activities. In return, oceans have experienced significant declines in seawater pH and the aragonite saturation state also called ocean acidification. This study evaluates the distribution of aragonite saturation state, an indicator to assess the potential threat from ocean acidification, by combining newly obtained data from the west coast of South Korea with previous datasets covering the Yellow Sea, East Sea, northern South China Sea, and southeast coast of South Korea. In general, offshore waters absorb atmospheric CO2; however, most of the collected water samples show aragonite oversaturation. On the southeast coast, the aragonite saturation state was significantly affected by river discharge and associated variables, such as freshwater input with nutrients, seasonal stratification, biological carbon fixation, and bacterial remineralization. In summer, hypoxia and mixing with relatively acidic freshwater made the Jinhae and Gwangyang Bays undersaturated with respect to aragonite, possibly threatening marine organisms with CaCO3 shells. However, widespread aragonite undersaturation was not observed on the west coast, which receives considerable river water discharge. In addition, occasional upwelling events may have worsened the ocean acidification in the southwestern part of the East Sea. These results highlight the importance of investigating site-specific ocean acidification processes in coastal waters. Along with the above-mentioned seasonal factors, the dissolution of atmospheric CO2 and the deposition of atmospheric acidic substances will continue to reduce the aragonite saturation state in Korean waters. To protect marine ecosystems and resources, an ocean acidification monitoring program should be established for Korean waters.

Atmospheric and BRDF Correction Method for Geostationary Ocean Color Imagery (GOCI) (정지궤도 해색탑재체(GOCI) 자료를 위한 대기 및 BRDF 보정 연구)

  • A new correction method is required for the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI), which is the world's first ocean color observing sensor in geostationary orbit. In this paper we introduce a new method of atmospheric and the Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function(BRDF) correction for GOCI. The Spectral Shape Matching Method(SSMM) and the Sun Glint Correction Algorithm(SGCA) were developed for atmospheric correction, and BRDF correction was improved using Inherent Optical Property(IOP) data. Each method was applied to the Sea-Viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor(SeaWiFS) images obtained in the Korean sea area. More accurate estimates of chlorophyll concentrations could be possible in the turbid coastal waters as well as areas severely affected by aerosols.

Investigation of correlation between ambient particulate matter and rainwater quality during heavy rain (호우 시 대기 중 미세먼지와 빗물 수질 간 상관성 분석 연구)

  • 본 연구는 호우(heavy rain) 발생 시 대기 중 미세먼지(particulate matter, PM) 저감효과를 규명하고 강우 지속에 따른 빗물 수질(pH, 전기전도도(electrical conductivity, EC), 수용성 이온) 분석을 통해 대기 중 PM이 빗물 수질에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다. 2020년 3월부터 2021년 2월까지강우 강도(7.5 mm/h)를 기준으로 총 6회의 강우를 대상으로 하였으며 빗물 샘플은 집수장치를 통해 50 mL를 연속적으로 수집하여 수질을 분석하였다. 대기 중 PM2.5 (≤ 2.5 ㎛ in diameter) 및 PM10 (≤ 10 ㎛ in diameter) 농도는 기상청 내 부산 남구 대연동 관측소의 automatic weather system (AWS)에서 측정된 일평균 자료를 이용하였다. 강우에 따른 대기 중 PM의 저감효율은 상대적으로 PM10에서 뚜렷하게 나타났으며, 특히 강우 강도 7.5 mm/h 이상(유형 1)의 호우 발생 시60% 이상의 저감효율을 보였다. 반면, 강우 강도 7.5 mm/h 이하(유형 2)일 때는 10% 이하의 저감효율을 보였으며, 강우 지속에 따라 대기 중 PM10 농도가 증가하는 경향을 보이기도 하였다. 총108개의 빗물 샘플 수질을 분석한 결과, 유형 1의 경우 초기 빗물의 평균 EC는 58.5 µS/cm으로 상대적으로 높았으며 대기 중 PM10과 양의 상관관계(r = 0.99)를 보였고 평균 pH는 4.3으로 산성도가 높게 나타났으며 대기 중 PM10과 음의 상관관계(r = -0.99)를 보였다. 반면, 유형 2의 경우 대기 중 PM10과 EC (r = -0.56) 및 pH (r = -0.41) 간 뚜렷한 상관관계가 나타나지 않았다. 또한 강우가 지속됨에 따라 EC와 수용성 양이온(Na+, Mg2+, K+, Ca2+, NH4+) 및 음이온(Cl-, NO3-, SO42-)의 농도는 지속적으로 감소하는 경향을 보였으나 pH의 경우 강우 강도에 따라 증감의 경향이 다르게 나타났다. 유형 1의 경우 강우 지속에 따라 pH가 증가하여 산성도가 낮아졌으나 유형 2는 pH의 증감 형태를 뚜렷하게 확인하기 어려웠다. 연구 결과를 통해 강우 초기 높은 강도로 강우가 지속될 경우 대기 중 PM10이 빗물 수질에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 것으로 판단되며, 이에 따라 호우 발생 시 강우가 대기 중 오염물질을 지표면으로 유입시킬 수 있는 매개체로 작용할 수 있음을 지시한다.

Generation of the Battlefield in Distributed Simulation System Based on Synthetic Environment Representation and Interchange Standard (SEDRIS) (분산 시뮬레이션 시스템에서 합성 환경 표현 및 교환 표준(SEDRIS) 기반의 전장 환경 구축)

  • Presented in the paper is a methodology for the distributed simulation of underwater warfare based on standard synthetic environment. In the case of underwater warfare simulation, it is very important to reflect environmental data, such as salinity and temperature. For the reusability and interoperability of environmental data, this paper adopts Synthetic Environmental Data Representation and Interchange Specification (SEDRIS(ISO standard for environmental data)). Although SEDRIS provides various merits as an international standard, applying of SEDRIS has been hindered by its broadness and heaviness. To relieve the difficulties, this paper proposes an efficient procedure to utilize SEDRIS technology for the atmosphere and underwater environment. This paper identifies SEDRIS structure for the atmosphere/underwater structured dimensional grid-based and implements the proposed procedure on the High Level Architecture (HLA) / Run-Time Infrastructure (RTI) to explain the generation of the battlefield in a distributed simulation system.

Reproduction of Ocean Circulation around Korean Peninsula by using a Mesoscale Ocean Circulation Model (중규모 해양모형을 이용한 한반도 주변 해역 해양순환 재현)

  • In this study, the oceanic responses to given atmospheric boundary conditions are investigated using a mesoscale ocean circulation model. The numerical experiments are divided into two parts: One is, so called, spin-up experiment and the other is reproduction experiment. The spin-up experiment simulates climatic state of ocean by integrating the ocean model with upper boundary conditions of the monthly mean atmospheric climate data. In the reproduction experiment, for the reproduction of major oceanic changes around Korean Peninsula during the period of 1980-1998 (19 years), the model has been integrated under the boundary condition of the 19year monthly mean atmosphere data. The spined-up state of ocean generated from the spin-up experiment is assigned to the initial boundary condition of the reproduction experiment. In the spin-up experiment, the model properly simulates the major features of circulation structure around Korean Peninsula; such as separation of East Korean Warm Current (EKWC), formation of the polar front, cold water band associated with the small scale eddies in the East Sea, the formation of front along west coast, and the seasonal variation of circulation pattern caused by changing upwind current in the West Sea. In the reproduction experiment, the model has shown the interannual sea surface temperature variations and a warming trend of about 0.5$^{\circ}$C during the period around Korean Peninsula, as in the case of the observation. Therefore, it is concluded that the model is capable of simulating not only the mean states but also the variabilities of ocean under the given atmosphere boundary conditions.

  • 황해의 대기환경을 종합적이고 체계적으로 조사하기 위해 한국과학기술연구원 지구환경연구센터를 중심으로 1998년 12월부터 황해종합조사사업의 일부로 "해양-대기 조사 연구"가 수행되었다 (이승복 등, 2002). 황해 전반의 대기오염 현황을 파악하기 위하여 본 연구팀에서는 황해상 도서인 덕적도에 고정 측정소를 구축하여 대기오염물질을 측정하고 있으며, 거의 직선적으로 황해를 가로지르며 항해하는 정기 여객선에 탐승하여 매년 대기오염물질을 측정하였고, 순회 조사선에 탑승하여 황해의 넓은 영역을 순회하면서 대기오염물질의 측정을 시도하였다(이승복 등, 2002; 김용표 등, 2000).
