Experimental Study on Chloride Penetration into Concrete under Combined Exposure Conditions of Chlorides and High Concentrated Sulfates (고농도 황산염 이온이 함께 존재하는 경우의 염소이온 침투특성에 관한 실험 연구)

  • Recently, the durability of concrete structures has received great attention as the number of sea-side structures, such as new airport, bridges, and nuclear power plants, increases continuously. In this regards, many studies have been done on the chloride attack in concrete structures. However, those studies were confined mostly to the single deterioration due to chloride only, although actual environment is rather of combined type. The purpose of the present study is, therefore, to explore the effects of combined deterioration due to chlorides and sulfates in concrete structures. To this end, comprehensive experimental program has been set up to observe the chloride penetration behavior for various test series. The test results indicate that the chloride penetration is more pronounced for the case of combined attack than the case of single chloride attack. The surface chloride content is found to increase with time and the diffusion coefficient for chloride is found to decrease with time. The prediction equations for surface chloride content and diffusion coefficient were proposed according to test results. The equations for chloride penetration considering the time-dependent diffusion coefficients and surface chlorides were also suggested. The present study allows more realistic assessment of durability for such concrete structures which are subjected to combined attacks of chlorides and high concentration sulfates but the future studies for combined environment will assure the precise assessment.

A Study on Driving Characteristics of Drivers at the Enforcement System Based on Speed Data (무인속도위반단속시스템 설치구간에서의 운전자 운행특성 분석)

  • The increasing interest in the use of automated photographic equipment in Korea enables to detect speed violation and enforce traffic laws. Since 1996, Korean National Police Agency has been promoting a project for installation of Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) system aiming at reduction of accidents. Recently, point to point speed cameras operate to measure a driver's average speed across length of road and/or the spot speed at individual camera sites along the road length. In this study, we were analyzed to driver's operating characteristics in point to point speed cameras. The point to point speed camera system has link-long influence on drivers and their speeds despite enforcement being visible only at the start and end of enforced road length. Then, mean and 85th percentile speeds were below speed limit along enforced road length by the two camers. Also, Female drivers were driving at low speed than male drivers along the road length.

STUDY ON THE MORPHOLOGICAL VARIATIONS OF MUSSEL MYTILUS CORUSCUS GOULD (담치의 형태변이에 관한 연구)

  • The followings are the results of study about morphological variation of mussel, Mytilus coruscus collected respectively from Sanyang-myeon Tongyeong-goon Gyeongnam on 13th January, Yeonwha-do Yokji-myeon Tongyeong-goon Gyeongnam on 15th May and down below the Yeong-do Bridge Busan on 20th August, 1964. The biggest mussel of the above three areas have been from Yeong-do Bridge, whose shell height is 164.1 mm, shell length 77.8mm, shell breadth 52.2mm, total weight 291,9g and shell length is as follows : from Yeong-do Bridge L=0.4954H + 1.9516, from Sanyang-myeon L=0.3718H + 14.145, from Yeonwha-do L=0.4074H + 9,6610 The relationship between shell height and shell breadth is as follows : from Yeong-do Bridge B=0.3426H + 0.2052, from Sanyang-myeon B=0.3084H + 3.6183, from Yeonwha-do B=0.3507H + 0.8028 In view of the above relationship, it is concluded that the slope value of mussel, nearer to the inshore from the off-sea, is similar to that of M. edulis, from which are can presume that M. coruscus could be changed in shell form according to its environment. Analysis of MODIS LAI and NDVI Patterns of Broad-leaved Trees by the Timesat Program on the Korean Peninsula (Timesat 프로그램에 의한 한반도 활엽수의 지역별 MODIS LAI 및 NDVI 패턴 분석)

  • This paper analyzed MODIS data from 2006 to 2013 to determine relationship between meteorological changes and vegetation index. The experimental area was divided into the northern, central and southern regions according to the regional characteristics, and the smoothed MODIS LAI and NDVI were obtained using Timesat. In the case of precipitation, MODIS NDVI had correlation coefficients of 0.66, 0.44 and 0.35 in the northern, central and southern regions and the correlation was the highest in the northern region. In the case of temperature, MODIS LAI had correlation coefficients of 0.66, 0.64 and 0.68, and MODIS NDVI had 0.89, 0.89 and 0.80. The correlation of MODIS NDVI was higher and showed similar positive correlation regardless of region. In addition, The accuracy between Timesat plant seasonal start and actual plant seasonal start in MODIS NDVI was higher than MODIS LAI. The average error in MODIS LAI was 19 days in the central region and 20 days in the southern region. And the average error in MODIS NDVI was 6 days in the central region and 8 days in the southern region.

Cytochemical Measurement of Lysosomal Responses in the Digestive Cells of Wild Pacific Oyster, Crassostrea gigas on the South Coast of Korea (세포화학적 방법을 이용한 남해안 조간대에 서식하는 참굴(Crassostrea gigas) 소화맹낭 세포 내 리소솜 활동 측정에 관한 연구)

  • Digestive cells of the bivalves have a highly developed lysosomal system and the system is known to be sensitive to changes in environmental qualities. In this study, we measured lysosomal responses of the digestive cells in wild oyster, Crassostrea gigas using frozen section. Oysters were collected in June 2010 from intertidal areas in the inner and outer bay of Gwangyang off the south coast of Korea. From the tissue sections, we measured the digestive cell lysosomal membrane stability (LMS), level of neutral lipids (NL), lipofuscin (LF) and the digestive gland atrophy (DGA). The DGA and condition index of oysters from the inner bay were significantly lower (P<0.05). The statistical test indicated that LMS levels of oysters in the inner bay and the outer bay were not significantly different since a shorter activity was displayed by oysters from the inner bay than that of oysters in outer bay. The LF deposition level of the oysters in the inner bay displayed significantly higher levels than the outer bay (P<0.05). In contrast, the NL accumulation measured from oysters in outer bay was significantly higher than the level observed in the inner bay (P<0.05). Different levels of DGA and LF that were observed in the inner and outer bays were thought to be associated to different level of environmental contamination and these two assays are considered to be good biomarkers.

Assessment of Immune Parameters of the Wild Pacific Oyster (Crassostrea gigas) using a Flow Cytometry and Neutral Red Retention Assay (유세포 분석기와 Neutral Red Retention Assay를 이용한 자연산 참굴(Crassostrea gigas)의 면역력 측정)

  • Hemocyte parameters of the wild Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas inhabiting intertidal zones in small bays (Gwangyang and Jinhae Bay) on the southern coast of Korea were evaluated using flow cytometry and neutral red retention (NRR) assay. Morphological features, cell count, mortality, DNA damage, phagocytosis, and lysosomal membrane stability of hemocytes were analyzed. Three types of hemocytes were identified in the oyster hemolymph: granulocytes, hyalinocytes, and blast-like cells. Immune related functions of hemocyte including phagocytosis and lysosomal membrane stability were significantly different among the study areas (P<0.05), while cell count, mortality, and DNA damage of hemocytes were not significantly different. In Gwangyang Bay, phagocytosis of granulocytes and lysosomal membrane stability of oyster hemocytes inhabiting inside bay were significantly lower than those of oyster hemocytes in outside bay (P<0.05), indicating that oysters in inside bay of Gwangyang were relatively suppressed the immunological function in hemocytes. Contrary to Gwangyang Bay, immune parameters of oyster hemocytes in Jinhae Bay not showed the difference between sampling sites. In conclusion, flow cytometry and NRR assay using oyster hemocyte has a powerful tool to investigate the cell level in a short time due to no-preprocessing of material.

A Study on the Risk of Lightning in Special Structures and its Verification Method (특수 구조물의 낙뢰 위험도와 검증 방안에 관한 연구)

  • Free-standing structures that are especially high are more likely to receive brain attacks caused by lightning. Since special structures are generally part of national industrial structures, lightning strikes mostly cause socio-economic damage. Lightning protection facilities are installed to prevent such lightning damage, but in 2015, support cables on West Sea bridges were hit by lightning, causing a lot of economic damage. Accordingly, the design of a lightning protection system shall establish protective measures after analyzing the risk of debris falling onto the structure. In this thesis, lightning strikes are analyzed directly in relation to the modeling system that operates the actual information collection system for lightning strikes, depending on the location of the tall, free-standing structures, and practical lightning hazard information is provided by a meteorological station. In addition, we propose monitoring and applying a probability correction rate to the calculation of the lightning risk based on the number of lightning strikes directly reaching the ground in order to obtain an effective lightning risk assessment.

  • GPS (Global Positioning System) made by the Department of Defense in U.S.A is positioning system to use satellite and initially it has been used only for the military forces but open to civilian in about 1987. This system has widely been used for not only surveying land, but also car navigation on the street and means to build up the data of the GIS. With GPS, recently our country is accelerating to make imbeded system and also the study on imbeded system is well under way. For example, Car navigation and the construction of the Seokang bridge between Willson Arch at Han river by using DGPS were evaluated as successful model to lead accurate location with the precision of the cm. The examples of the project performance with GPS has gradually been extended to the each department organization of the local and central government. for the example, It is true that BIS(Bus Information System) is widely spreading out. In addition, the study on the Distribution Maintenance System is expected to be well in progress to take advantage of GPS based on the data base of the NGIS(National Geography Institute System) of the NGI(National Geography Institute). This paper shows that we embodied not only the large imbeded system for car and finding the location in Korean Land Corporation but also the protype of the kinematics Wrist Held which is easily portable to pedestrian, climber and marathon runner.

Characteristics of Sediments in the Kanghwa Tidal Flat on the west coast of Korea (한국 서해 강화 갯벌의 퇴적물 특성)

  • The southern tidal flat of Kanghwa Island is one of the biggest flats on the west coast of Korea. Tide is typically a semidiurnal with maximum range of about 10m. The tidal flat receives large amount of sediments from Han River system. Surface sediments for sedimentary analyses were sampled at 83 stations in the study area in August 2003. The surface sediments consisted of five sedimentary facies. Generally, sandy mud sediments dominated in the southern tidal flat of Kanghwa Island, whereas sand sediments dominated in channel and subtidal zones of the western part of Kanghwa Island. The area of sandy mud sediment extended to eastward tidal flat compared to sedimentary facies in August 1997. Sedimentary facies analysis of three core sediments from the tidal flat to the south of the Kangwha Island revealed three sedimentary facies: trough-cross-bedded sand, laminated silt, and bioturbated silt. Distribution of the facies in the cores suggested that sedimentation rates has been generally high in the margin of main tidal channel, especially in the east of the Donggeum Island. Twelve-and-half-hour anchoring survey was carried out for measurements of hydrodynamic parameters at Yeomha channel near Choji Bridge(K1) and channel near Donggeum Island(K2) in June 2003. Residual flows indicated strong ebb-dominated tidal currents. Depth-integrated net suspended sediment loads for one tidal cycle were seaward movement with 309,217.9kg/m and 128,123.1kg/m at station K1 and K2, respectively. The higher value of net suspended sediment loads at station K1 suggested that lots of suspended sediments from Han River deposited in the eastern part of tidal flat.

Assessment of Depth-averaged Velocity Conversion Factors Using Measured Depthwise Velocities in a Natural River (하천의 수심별 유속측정자료를 이용한 수심평균유속환산계수 산정)

  • 하천에서 유량을 산정하기 위해서 전자파표면유속계를 이용하여 표면유속을 측정하고 수심평균유속환산계수 0.85를 일률적으로 적용하여 수심평균유속을 산정하고 있다. 이 수심평균유속환산계수 0.85의 적절성에 대한 논의가 지속되어져 왔으나 그 동안에는 이에 대한 현장검증을 할 수 있는 방법이 없었던 실정이다. 하지만 최근 들어서는 ADCP(Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler)의 하천용 Application인 StreamPro ADCP가 개발되어 이를 이용하면 홍수기에 수심별 유속을 측정할 수 있다. 다만 홍수기에 StreamPro ADCP의 적용시에는 여러 가지 높은 위험성이 상존하는 것은 인지의 사실이지만, 그 외의 별다른 방법이 없는 실정이다. 따라서 홍수기에 StreamPro ADCP를 이용하여 수심별 유속을 측정하고 이와 동시에 측정한 표면유속을 이용하여 수심평균유속환산계수를 산정하여 기존에 환산계수로 적용하고 있는 0.85의 적절성을 파악하고자 하였다. 흐름조건별 수심평균유속환산계수 산정을 위하여 평수기 용담 수자원시험유역의 동향지점에서 수심평균유속환산계수를 산정한 결과 0.632~1.352로 넓게 분포하고 있음을 파악하였다. 이렇게 계수가 실제 적용하는 0.85와는 크게 차이가 나는 이유로는 수심이 얕아서 바닥마찰의 영향이 크기 때문인 것으로 판단되었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 여러 지점에서 홍수기 수심별 유속의 실측을 통하여 수심평균유속환산계수 분포정도를 산정하고자 하였다. 대청댐 상류의 수통수위표가 위치해 있는 적벽대교지점에서 StreamPro ADCP를 이용하여 수심평균유속환산계수를 산정한 결과 0.735~0.986 사이에 분포하고 있다. 측정한 결과의 수심평균유속환산계수의 평균값은 0.853으로 기존에 수심평균유속의 산정을 위하여 적용하고 있는 0.85와 거의 일치함을 보이고 있다. 측정당시 수심이 3.6 m에 이르고 있고 유속 또한 1.55 m/s에 이르고 있어 홍수시 일반하천에서 발생하는 수위와 유속임을 감안할 때, 0.735~0.986의 수심평균유속환산계수는 홍수시 순간적인 변화의 폭이 큼을 알 수 있다. 이렇게 순간적인 변화가 큰 이유로는 난류의 성분이 강해서 나타나는 것으로 이를 평균하면 0.853으로 나타나고 있어 홍수시에 수심평균유속환산계수를 0.85를 사용하여도 무방함을 알 수 있다. 동향지점에서 홍수기에 수심별 유속의 실측을 통하여 수심평균유속환산계수를 산정하고자 하였다. 그러나 이 지점은 강한 와류로 인하여 ADCP가 심하게 흔들림으로 인하여 순간적인 유속의 차이가 최대 4배까지 보임을 알 수 있다. 이로 인하여 수심평균유속환산계수의 범위는 0.233~0.983에 이른다. 측정당시 표면유속이 2.07 m/s 인 것을 감안하여 이 표면유속에 상응하는 수심별 유속 자료만을 이용하여 산정시, 수심평균유속환산계수는 0.876이다. 하천의 하류지점에서 수심별 유속을 측정하여 수심평균유속환산계수를 산정하고자 한강하류로 유입하는 굴포천의 구교 및 박촌1교 지점에서 유속측정을 실시하였다. 이들 두 지점은 홍수기에 조차도 유속이 1 m/s 에 이르지 못하는 지점으로, 수심평균유속환산계수를 산정한 결과 각각 0.826, 0.833을 나타내고 있어, 수심평균유속환산계수 0.85가 홍수기뿐만 아니라 평 갈수기에도 적용할 수 있는 가능성을 확인하였다.
