Routing in UAV based Disruption Tolerant Networks (무인항공기 기반 지연 허용 네트워크에서의 라우팅)

  • Disruption/Delay Tolerant Network(DTN) is a technology for interconnecting partitioned networks. These days, DTN, especially routing in DTN, draws significant attention from the networking community. In this paper, we investigate DTN routing strategies for highly partitioned ad hoc networks where Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) perform store-carry-forward functionality for improved network connectivity. Also we investigate UAV trajectory control mechanisms via simulation studies.

  • Delay- and Disruption-Tolerant Network (DTN) has been considered as a key technology to overcome main challenges in interplanetary communications such as an intermittent connectivity and high bit error rates. The lack of end-to-end connectivity between source and destination results in long and variable delays and data loss, hence the Internet Protocols cannot operate properly in such environments because it requires an end-to-end connectivity. The DTN, which utilizes 'store-and-forward' message passing scheme between nodes, can overcome the lack of end-to-end connectivity in Interplanetary Network (IPN). In this paper, DTN is applied to 3-hop relay IPN, where messages are transmitted from Earth ground station to Lunar lander through Earth satellite and Lunar orbiter. ONE simulator is used to reflect the real environment of IPN and an efficient resource management method are analyzed to guarantee the message delivery by optimizing a message TTL (Time to Live), buffer size and message fragmentation.

  • Ubiquitous sensor network is the communication environment where sensor nodes move freely and construct network to get the services from the system. So, it does not need fixed infrastructure and can easily be placed in unaccessible regions like war or calamity area. Wireless sensor network protocol has self-organizing capability, need to adapt topology change flexibly and also has technique that sensor nodes work cooperatively, because network disconnection is frequently occurred due to the active mobility of sensor nodes. In this paper, we design a cluster based fault-tolerant routing protocol for the efficient topology construction and to guarantee stable data transmission in USN. The performance of the proposed protocol is evaluated by an analytic model.

  • 이동 컴퓨팅이란 시가놔 장소에 구애 받지 않으면서 컴퓨팅을 수행할 수 있는 것을 말한다. 현재 다양한 사용자의 요구를 수용하기 위하여 이동 컴퓨팅에 관한 연구가 세계적으로 활발히 진행되고 있다. 이동 컴퓨팅은 이동 호스트 자체의 결함, 네트워크 연결 단절, 무선 링크의 결함 등의 기존 유선 네트워크에서는 찾아볼 수 없는 새로운 결함 원인들을 포함하고 있다. 그러나 현재 이동 컴퓨팅 연구 중에서 이러한 이동 호스트의 결함을 효율적으로 대처하는 결함 허용 기법에 관한 연구는 미미한 실정이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 기지국의 결함이 발생하여도 이동 호스트가 복구가능하도록 하는 Redundant Lazy 기법을 제안하고 성능을 분석한다.

Cross-Layer Service Discovery Scheme for Hybrid Ad-hoc Networks (하이브리드 애드-혹 네트워크를 위한 크로스-레이어 서비스 검색 기법)

  • Efficient service discovery mechanism is a crucial feature for a hybrid ad-hoc network supporting extension of a wireless ad-hoc network to the Internet. We propose an efficient cross-layer service discovery mechanism using non-disjoint multi-path source routing protocol for hybrid ad-hoc networks. Our scheme has advantages of multi-path routing protocol and cross-layer service discovery. Intuitively, it is not difficult to imagine that the cross-layer service discovery mechanism could result in a decreased number of messages compared to the traditional approach for handling routing independently from service discovery. By simulation, we show that faster route recovery is possible by maintaining multiple routing paths in each node, and the route maintenance overhead can be reduced by limiting the number of multiple routing paths and by maintaining link/node non-disjoint multi-path.

  • Efficient service discovery mechanism is a crucial feature for the usability of a wireless ad-hoc network. A wireless ad-hoc network is a temporal network formed by a collection of wireless mobile nodes without the aid of any existing network infrastructure or centralized administration. We propose an efficient service discovery mechanism using non-disjoint multi-path routing protocol for a wireless ad-hoc network. Our scheme has advantages of not only multi-path routing protocol but also cross-layer service discovery.   • A VANET (Vehicular Ad Hoc Network), a subclass of MANET (Mobile Ad Hoc Network), is an ad hoc network using wireless communication between vehicles without fixed infrastructure such as base station. VANET suffers a frequent link breakage and network topology change because of the rapid movement of vehicles and the density change of vehicles. From these characteristics of VANET, geographical routing protocols such as GPSR (Greedy Perimeter Stateless Routing) using only the information of neighbor nodes are more suitable rather than AODV and DSR that are used in existing MANETs. However, GPSR may have a transmission delay and packet loss by frequent link disconnection and continual local maxima under the low vehicle density conditions. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a DTVR (Delay Tolerant Vehicular Routing) algorithm that perform a DTN-based routing scheme if there is no 2-hop neighbor nodes for efficient routing under the low vehicle densities in VANETs. Simulation results using ns-2 reveal that the proposed DTVR protocol performs much better performance than the existing routing protocols.

  • A mobile host has failure causes such as failure of the mobile host, disconnection of the mobile host, and wireless link failure that have not been seen in traditional computing environments. So far there have been few studies on fault tolerance of a mobile host in mobile computing environments. The Lazy scheme, a failure recovery technique of the mobile host, is a cost-effective one. However, this scheme has a defect that the mobile host cannot be recovered from failure of the base station with acheckpoint of the mobile host. In this paper, we propose and evaluate the Redundant Lazy scheme for performance improvement of the Lazy scheme.

Exceptional Characteristics of Cross-border Production Networks in Dandong, North Korea-China Border Region (북중 접경지역 단둥의 대북 생산 네트워크의 예외적 성격)

  • Since the late 2000s Korean foreign direct investors in North Korea and China border regions have gone through the closure of outward processing trade(OPT) networks and changes in their location due to UN security council resolution and Korean independent sanctions against North Korea's nuclear and missile tests. However, the introduction of new Chinese OPT policy has led to the invigoration of domestic market-based OPT networks towards North Korea. The main aim of this paper is to identify the exceptional characteristics of Dandong in Liaoning province, a North Korea and China border region by analyzing OPT networks towards North Korea. Fundamentally the establishment of OPT networks towards North Korea is likely to be based on the utilization of a plenty of low wages in North Korea. The main reasons for this are fallen into two perspectives: geo-economics and geo-politics. The first perspective is geo-economics centering on the consolidation of economic exchange between North Korea and China, and North Korean economic development. For example, the introduction of Chinese OPT in border region has enabled Chinese local firms based on domestic market to access a plenty of low wage in North Korea in formal and institutional contexts. The second is geo-politics for the stability of North Korean regime based on the means of geo-economics. As the invigoration of domestic market-based OPT networks might make North Korea possible promoting foreign money earning, it enable North Korea to be sustainable as a buffering region between capitalist and socialist regime for China. It shows Chinese geo-strategic attempts to deal with the economic and regime stability of North Korean as a buffering state. In other words, OPT networks in North Korea should be concerned with the discourse practice of geo-economics and geo-politics which might lead to various and contingent spatial economies in border region. As a consequence, North Korea and China border regions could defined as a space in which is applicable to exceptional institutions and policies, and an exploitative space in which create surplus and rents by utilizing a plenty of low wages in North Korea through OPT networks.
