  • The paper presents the economic analysis of optimized-rehabilitation area method considered as one of the preventive maintenance methods in asphalt concrete pavement. The optimized-rehabilitation area was selected based on the analysis of traffic lane characteristics. The main concept of the selected method was to minimize the maintenance cost. The effective width of traffic lane in this method was 70 cm of each wheel path. According to the traffic survey conducted in this research, more than 95% of vehicles passed within the width of each wheel path. The new preventive optimized-rehabilitation area method showed less maintenance cost than the conventional overlay. In addition, traffic congestions and the user cost can be reduced. The research results revealed that the total maintenance cost was reduced by 35% by using the new method compare to the conventional one.

  • This paper presents minimum area repair method that is one of the preventive maintenance techniques in asphalt concrete pavements. In this method, a 70cm-width as an effective repair zone was suggested considering the conventional longitudinal damages (rutting and fatigue cracking) in early stages. In addition, the repair zone can be readjusted according to the pavement damage levels. A field test bed was constructed to verify the adaptness for the repair method. Test results revealed that the minimum area repair method can be adopted as a preventive maintenance technique in flexible pavements to recover an appropriate serviceability level. The preventive maintenance method may be one of the major maintenance methods of flexible pavements with an appropriate application. It is also noted that the method may be a long term maintenance cost effective and pavement life ensuring one.

• An underwater structure is made to put with serious damage state by special environmental factors. If this damage phenomena persist, as for the structure, it is generated a structural serious problem because of the corrosion of a reinforcing bar and the loss of the concrete cut end. Repair work of an underwater structure is very harder than repair work in land, and it is actual that certification about a maintenance effect is uncertain. And the existing repair method is applied to a structure damaged with you without verification of a repair effect by a foreign reward and experience. In this study, a repair method about an underwater structure was proposed and observed a behavior characteristic and interface failure of an specimens. and comparison analyzed an effect of a proposed maintenance method.

  • Recently, the damaged concrete structures are often strengthened or repaired using the polymer concrete or the polymer cement mortar. In the repaired concrete structures at early ages, internal stresses could be developed due to the differential drying shrinkage of the repair material. Due to the difference of the thermal coefficients of the repair material and existing concrete, additional stresses also could be developed as the structures are subjected to the ambient temperature changes. Theses environmentally-induced stresses can sometimes be large enough to cause damage to the structures, such as debonding of the interface between the two materials. In this study, a rational procedure was developed where anchors can be designed and installed to prevent damages in such structures by thermally-induced stresses. Finally, through the experimental study and numerical study, the effects of the repair method using anchors with debonding was investigated and discussed the results.

  • Structures in our surroundings deteriorate over time due to environmental and chemical factors, resulting in a decrease in their performance. The primary causes of degradation in concrete structures are carbonation, salt damage, and freeze-thaw cycles. Various maintenance methods exist to address these degradation issues. However, research and technological development for existing maintenance methods have been ongoing, but the accuracy and effectiveness of repair materials and techniques have not been extensively validated. Therefore, in this study, we conducted a material performance evaluation of various manufacturers' repair materials. Based on this evaluation, we applied corrosion inhibitors and epoxy, which are the methods most closely related to crack repair, to assess the durability performance against carbonation, salt damage, and freeze-thaw cycles. The results show approximately a two-fold performance improvement against carbonation and salt damage, and a 5% enhancement in repair performance against freeze-thaw cycles. Thus, it is considered effective in preventing rebar corrosion when appropriate maintenance is carried out according to environmental and chemical factors during structural repairs.
