A simplified analysis method is first proposed in order to determine an optimized initial shape of cable-stayed bridges including all unstrained element lengths without using complicated nonlinear FE analysis. The unstrained-length based FE method is then presented using the unstrained lengths by the simplified analysis. To demonstrate validity and accuracy of the proposed method, Incheon bridge model having the fabrication camber is constructed and initial shaping analysis is performed using the presented method and commercial finite element analysis program, MIDAS. Resultantly it is shown that the initial solutions by the proposed algorithm are well optimized and in good agreement with those by MIDAS except for axial displacements of the main member.

Estimating the nonlinear seismic response of structure in earthquake engineering is important. Nonlinear static analysis is a typical method, and a variety of methods and techniques for estimating the stiffness of structural system at a certain analysis stage have been introduced and used in numerical structural analysis. On the other hand, such methods have many difficulties in practical usage because they use time-consuming iterative methods or simplified algorithms for calculating the structural stiffness at specific points in the time of nonlinear static analysis. For this reason, this study suggests an accurate and effective method for estimating the stiffness of a structure in nonlinear static analysis. For this goal, existing theories of an incremental step-by-step solution was investigated first. Subsequently, an algorithm available for calculating the precise stiffness of a structural system, each element of which has a bilinear material model, was developed based on the investigated methods. Finally, a computer program, sNs, was developed with the algorithm used.

A numerical procedure is developed to analyze the time-dependent deflections of prestressed concrete bridges constructed by the segmental cantilever method. The developed computer program accounts for the time-dependent properties of prestressed concrete materials due to the varying modulus of elasticity, creep and shrinkage of concrete and the stress relaxation of prestressing steel. It also accounts for the stiffness increase due to the presence of the steel reinforcements and the effects of the shear deformation of the prestressed concrete bridge girders. The program is applied to a multi-span continuous segmental prestressed concrete bridge to demonstrate its capabilities and to explore the behavior characteristics of the segmental bridges.

In this paper, we studied to improve Inoue's[1] and Kijima's[2] model used to predict ship's manoeuvrability at initial design state. To perform this work, we carried out PMM(Planar motion Mechanism) test and rudder open water test for 12 models of low-speed blunt-ship which have horn type rudders and bulbs in afterbody. As we adopted MMG(Mathematical Modelling Group) model, we could analyze hydrodynamic and MMG experimental coefficients. The regression analyses by principle parameters were carried out for hydrodynamic and MMG experimental coefficients. The regression analyses by principle parameters were carried out for hydrodynamic and MMG experimental coefficients and the equations by regression analysis wee used to search sensitivities and to estimate ship's manoeuvrability. We had simulated ship's manoeuvrability to check revised MMG.
In general, a three dimensional ground behaviour during tunneling is simulated by using two dimensional analysis programs in consideration of a certain ratio of stress or strain distribution to take into account the effect of construction stage by a tunnel face advance. A series of trree dimensional analyses was conducted to deduce a normalized displacement (surface or crown settlement) curve in longitudinal direction, of which curve is reflecting an effect of a tunnel advance under a various condition. And, by using try and error technique, two dimensional analyses were carried out to determine an optimum stress distribution ratio for a settiement curve coincided with the curve obtained by three dimensional analyses. Finally, monitored results from a subway tunnel were compared with two dimensional analysis results for varification of the deduced stress distribution ratio as well as the two dimensional analysis program employed in this study.

In this paper, a new adaptive analysis scheme for element-free Galerkin method(EFGM) is proposed. The novel point of this scheme is that the triangular cell structure based on the Delaunay triangulation is used in the numerical integration and the node adding/removing process. In adaptive analysis with this scheme, there is no need to divide the integration cell and the memory cell structure. For the adaptive analysis of crack propagation, the reconstruction of cell structure by adding and removing the nodes on integration cells based the estimated error should be carried out at every iteration step by the Delaunay triangulation technique. This feature provides more convenient user interface that is closer to the real mesh-free nature of EFGM. The analysis error is obtained basically by calculating the difference between the values of the projected stresses and the original EFG stresses. To evaluate the performance of proposed adaptive procedure, the crack propagation behavior is investigated for several examples.

In this study, an analytical method was proposed to correct the analysis results and minimize the errors between column shortening predictions and real values in high-rise buildings. In this regard, the construction sequence analysis of 41-story reinforced concrete buildings was performed and the results were compared to four assumed field measurements that were divided into the column and the core. The analysis correction was applied at a stage over the error limit in the column and at all stages in the core. Since the error occurred continuously after the analysis was corrected, additional corrections of the analysis resulted in a smaller error. By applying the proposed analytical correction method, it was confirmed that the long-term shortening value can be accurately predicted.

The objective of the present study is to analyze material flow in the metal forming processes by using computer simulation and experiment with model material, plasticine. A UBET program is developed to analyze the bulk flow behaviour of various metal forming problems. The elemental strain-hardening effect is considered in an incremental manner and the element system is automatically regenerated at every deforming step in the program. The material flow behavior in closed-die forging process with rib-web type cavity are analyzed by UBET and elastic-plastic finite element method, and verified by experiments with plasticine. There were good agreements between simulation and experiment. The effect of corner rounding on material flow behavior is investigated in the analysis of backward extrusion with square die. Flat punch indentation process is simulated by UBET, and the results are compared with that of elastic-plastic finite element method.
