Life Satisfaction of Older Adults using Hierarchical Model Analysis focused on Individual and Community Factors (다층모형을 활용한 노인의 삶의 만족도 분석: 개인적 요인과 지역적 요인의 특성을 중심으로)

  • This study aims to observe the effect of age friendliness of cities on life satisfaction and to suggest ways to improve quality of life of older people. The secondary data sets were used in this study, which were '2014 Survey of Living Conditions and Welfare Needs of Korean Older People.' It's a nationwide data collected by the Korean Institute of Health and Social Affairs. A multilevel analysis model was used to analyze the data because the level of age friendliness has a hierarchical data structure. Results showed as follows: First, life satisfaction of older adults is affected by the level of age-friendliness of cities in which they live. Second, on the personal level, older people showed low life satisfaction when they are more older and have more chronic diseases and more depressed. On the contrary, life satisfaction of older adults increased when they have higher education and income. Third, on the city level, older people showed higher life satisfaction when they live in high employment rate area and participation rate of lifelong education. Cautions should be placed when interpret the result because the variables that represent the characteristics of age friendless of cities were constituted arbitrary. Based on the results, suggestions for improving the city environment age-friendly and implications for social welfare practice were provided.

Investigating Drivers of Housing Vacancy in Old Town Incheon using Multi-level Analysis (다층모형을 활용한 인천광역시 원도심 빈집 발생의 영향요인 분석)

  • Housing vacancies have become a major issue in urban areas, there have been many efforts to address this issue at the national and local levels. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the factors contributing to housing vacancies in old town Incheon in South Korea. In particular, the research focuses on examining the effects of multiple levels of factors on housing vacancies in a comprehensive way; the three levels of factors were identified with a literature review including housing (Level 1), Neighborhood (Level 2), and Region (Level 3). A multi-level logistic regression model was used to examine the relationship between 13 factors in three spatial levels and housing vacancies. As a result, the factors in all three levels were able to explain housing vacancies including site area and shape, proximity to major roads (Level 1), ratio of houses in designated urban renewal area and slope (Level 2), and ratio of the elderly living alone, land price, changes in land price and ratio of new houses (Level 3). These results show that the combination of the physical inferiority of the housing site and the neighborhood environment and the economic and social vulnerability of the region is likely to increases the number of vacant houses. This study also suggested that a multi-dimensional policy strategy is needed to solve the problem of housing vacancies, and urban policies, such as supplying new housing or urban renewal area designation, should be carefully implemented in a way not to create housing vacancies.

Lateral Resistance Behavior Analysis of Drilled Shafts in Multi-layered Soil (다층지반에 근입된 현장타설말뚝의 수평 지지거동분석)

  • In this research, load-transfer-function method was selected, because that is widely used in geotechnical engineering among the analysis methods to verify the behavior of load-lateral displacement. Lateral loading test of field scale was conducted, this measured data was analyzed. From the analysis, the model of load-lateral displacement was suggested. The test results were studied and compared to the commercial programs, 'LPILE', which contain the load transfer functions proposed before. By analysis of measure data of load-lateral displacement that expressed to several functions, $y=ae^{bx}$ model was the simplest and applicable to the field. In that case a value converged about 1.3, b value had a tendency to converge about 0.02. From the comparison analysis between measured data and load transfer function by 'LPILE', it is examined that if the lateral load is small, calculated displacements of them show a similar value compared to measured values. Furthermore, the bigger lateral loads, the bigger calculated values compared to the measured data. If the results are compared by Matlock-Reese method and Matlock-API method, Matlock-Reese method shows result of safe side because lateral displacement is calculated greatly relatively.

  • The emergence of the digital age has changed the paradigm of education. Recently, the new paradigm needs new digital books that contain more interactive contents. Our goal is to design the digital textbook with convenient interfaces and cutting effects for interactive and effective education. To achieve these goals, we propose interfaces and contents which are designed after a lot of discussion with educational experts. In the implementation step, cutting algorithm is proposed to generate the cut planes of the 3D objects, based on the free strokes specified by the users. In order to test the performance of the contents, the testbed was implemented so that students try our digital book and present their evaluation results on the convenience and the effectiveness.

Performance Comparison of Machine Learning Algorithms for TAB Digit Recognition (타브 숫자 인식을 위한 기계 학습 알고리즘의 성능 비교)

  • In this paper, the classification performance of learning algorithms is compared for TAB digit recognition. The TAB digits that are segmented from TAB musical notes contain TAB lines and musical symbols. The labeling method and non-linear filter are designed and applied to extract fret digits only. The shift operation of the 4 directions is applied to generate more data. The selected models are Bayesian classifier, support vector machine, prototype based learning, multi-layer perceptron, and convolutional neural network. The result shows that the mean accuracy of the Bayesian classifier is about 85.0% while that of the others reaches more than 99.0%. In addition, the convolutional neural network outperforms the others in terms of generalization and the step of the data preprocessing.

5-SRICOS Method : Prediction of Scour Depth Around Bridge Piers in Cohesive Soils (S-SRICOS 방법 : 점성토지반의 교각세굴깊이 예측)

  • A new method called S-SRICOS is proposed to predict the local scour depth around bridge piers. The S-SRICOS method is a simplified version of the SRICOS method which was developed to predict the scour depth versus time curve around bridge piers. The SRICOS method which considers the time effect based on the soil properties and the hydraulic parameters can handle a multi-flood hydrograph and multi-layer soil systems with the SRICOS program. An attempt was made to simplify the method to the point where only hand calculations would be required. The concept of the equivalent time was developed leer this purpose. The S-SROICOS method requires only 4 parameters such as pier width, design bridge life, design velocity corresponding to the design bridge life, and initial scour rate of the soil. The S-SRICOS method was verified against 55 cases of the scour depth results using the SRICOS method.

  • A new analytical inversion technique is developed to determine the shear wave velocity profiles of natural soils and pavement systems from the dispersion curves of Rayleigh waves. Haskell's theory on the dispersion of the surface waves in multi-layered elastic solids is utilized. A frequency-unlimited dispersion equation is developed by use of the delta matrix technique. Rigid halfspace is assumed at the depth of the one wavelength of Rayleigh waves. Computer program is coded and validity of the technique is verified through the numerical model tests.

  • 현재 전국적으로 $\blacktriangle$ 전기, 가스, 상수도, 하수도, 열수송관 등을 공동 수용하는 '지하공동구'가 14개 도시 30개소에 160.4km $\blacktriangle$ 보행공간으로 병용되는 '지하도로'가 23개도시 118개소에 63만 $m^2$ $\blacktriangle$ 지하도로내 설치된 지하점포가 1만1천798개소 23만$m^2$이 있다. 이와 같이 현대 도시내에서 지상공간의 과밀도 개발로 인하여 지하공간의 수요가 증대되어 지하공간 구조물이 많이 설치되고 있는 반면, 지하상가, 지하천 등과 같은 지하공간 시설에서 발생할 수 있는 침수피해 대책이 미흡한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 과거 지하공간의 침수피해 실태를 조사하고 그 사례에서 원인을 분석하여 기술적 해결책을 도출해 내며, 침수방지를 위한 대책으로 국내에서 사용하고 있는 기숙이나 국외(미국, 일본)의 침수방지 기술 및 대책, 침수시 가이드라인 등을 조사하였다. 또한 지하공간이 침수되었을 때 일어날 수 있는 위험성에 대하여 이론적인, 기술적인 조건에 대하여 조사하였다. 이를 토대로 지하공간의 유형 즉, 지하주택, 지하상가, 지하공공시설(지하차도, 지하철, 전철, 지하변전소)에 대한 구체적인 침수방지 기숙에 대한 기준을 제시함으로써 궁극적으로는 지방자치단체, 관련기관, 연구기관에서 지하공간 침수방지대책에 대한 기초자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

  • Since 1980's in U.S.A and Japan, the studies on increasing the bearing capacity of railway roadbed using geocell system have been conducted for repair and reinforcement of railways constructed on soft soils. In this study, the railway roadbed reinforced with geocell system, used for repair and reinforcement of existing railways in Korea, has been analyzed and investigated the results of the previous studies conducted in Korea and other nations. And the method for estimating the railway roadbed thickness was developed based on the equivalent method using the multi-layer theory and the deformation modulus Ev.

  • Ultimate lateral loaded pile capacity is influenced by soil conditions. Methods of calculating ultimate lateral loaded pile capacity in homogeneous soil were suggested by a lot of previous researchers.(Broms 1964, Petrasovits & Award 1972, Prasad & Chari 1999, Zhang et al. 2005) There is only few homogeneous soil in actual condition, however, it could be not conviction that the methods from previous researchers are correct in multi-layered soil. In this study, the variation of ultimate lateral loaded pile capacity was analyzed in the various multi-layered conditions, ultimate lateral loaded pile capacity was calculated by the methods from previous researchers. For this study, the Lateral Pile Load Tests (LPLT) were performed in calibration chamber, the soil was composed by 3 layers and each layers had a various relative density. The results of LPLT were compared with calculated results from the previous researchers.
