  • In this paper, we developed a big data platform to store, process, and analyze effectively on such education longitudinal study data. And it was applied to the Seoul Education Longitudinal Study(SELS) to confirm its usefulness. The developed platform consists of data preprocessing unit and data analysis unit. The data preprocessing unit 1) masking, 2) converts each item into a factor 3) normalizes / creates dummy variables 4) data derivation, and 5) data warehousing. The data analysis unit consists of OLAP and data mining(DM). In the multidimensional analysis, OLAP is performed after selecting a measure and designing a schema. The DM process involves variable selection, research model selection, data modification, parameter tuning, model training, model evaluation, and interpretation of the results. The data warehouse created through the preprocessing process on this platform can be shared by various researchers, and the continuous accumulation of data sets makes further analysis easier for subsequent researchers. In addition, policy-makers can access the SELS data warehouse directly and analyze it online through multi-dimensional analysis, enabling scientific decision making. To prove the usefulness of the developed platform, SELS data was built on the platform and OLAP and DM were performed by selecting the mathematics academic achievement as a measure, and various factors affecting the measurements were analyzed using DM techniques. This enabled us to quickly and effectively derive implications for data-based education policies.

  • Upon selecting preferred bidder in Public-Private Partnership projects, multi-dimensional procurement auction, where price factor and non-price factor are evaluated, is used. This paper tries to analyze bidding data in BTO road projects. It is shown that a winner tends to get higher score in bidding evaluation, which is partly due to increase in base score as well as fiercer competition among bidders. It turns out that score margin in non-price factor was determinant in selecting winner. Also, there was no competition when the level of bonus point was set too high. For price factor, it costs 730 million KRW per score in construction subsidy by government, while it costs 2.43 billion KRW per score in toll revenue. For non-price factor, it was estimated to cost 2.30 billion KRW. Based on the results, it was suggested that we should have appropriate level of bonus point for first initiator, change in scoring rule in construction subsidy part, adjustment of base score in evaluation.

  • The main goal of this study was to investigate the factors influencing the life satisfaction of elderly individuals living alone. We analyzed the data obtained in 2016 through "Survey on Residents'Quality of Life in Gyeonggi Province", performing stepwise multiple regression on 824 cases. The results were as follows: First, age, income, and education had a significant impact on life satisfaction, while sex, marital status, and employment had no influence on life satisfaction. Second, as individual-level factors, self-rated health, exercise, and participation in religious activities and social associations had a significant and positive impact on life satisfaction. Third, the results showed that both helping others in neighborhood and trusting people in the neighborhood, between-person factors, positively influenced their subjective quality of life, but receiving help from the neighborhood did not significantly affect life satisfaction. Fourth, satisfaction with cultural facilities, one of the physical environmental factors, was associated with life satisfaction. These results suggest that multi-level factors influencing life satisfaction should be considered to enhance the quality of life of elderly individuals. In particular, they suggest that when planning measures, it is necessary to consider built-environments for the elderly.
