  • In this paper, a land and maritime unified tourism information guide system is proposed which employs robust speech recognition in ship noise environments. Most of conventional front-ends for speech recognition have used a Wiener filter to compensate for stationary noise such as car or babble noises. However, such the conventional front-ends have limitation in reducing non-stationary noise that are occurred inside the ship on voyage. To overcome such a limitation, the proposed system incorporates nonlinear multi-band spectral subtraction to provide highly accurate tourism route recognition. It is shown from the experiment that compared to a conventional system the proposed system achieves relative improvement of a tourism route recognition rate by 5.54% under a noise condition of 10 dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

  • Self-configuration network model is to overcome the limits of data communications at sea. As a research for enhancing the connectivity and scalability of data networks at sea using the diversity and heterogeneity of the data networks on land, in this paper, a routing scheme (NLTCR) based on not conventional hop counts but distances to destination ships is introduced. The NLTCR seeks an optimal route by normalized distances to a destination, and transmission characteristics of applications and carriers. Performance is evaluated and compared with those of the max-win (MWR) and the normalized transmission characteristics (NTCR) based schemes.

  • his study discusses the design of an automatic berthing control algorithm for ships with a haw thruster and a stern thruster, as well as a rudder. A nonlinear mathematical model for the law speed maneuvering of ships was used to design a MIMO (multi-input multi-output) nonlinear control algorithm. The algorithm consists of two parts, the forward velocity control and heading angle control. The control algorithm was designed based on the longitudinal and yaw dynamic models of ships. The desired heading angle was obtained by the so-called "Line of Sight" method. An optimal control force allocation method forthe rudder and the thrusters is suggested. The nonlinear control algorithm was tested by numerical simulations using MATLAB, and showed good tracking performance.

  • A maritime object detection system is an intelligent assistance system to maritime autonomous surface ship(MASS). It detects automatically floating debris, which has a clash risk with objects in the surrounding water and used to be checked by a captain with a naked eye, at a similar level of accuracy to the human check method. It is used to detect objects around a ship. In the past, they were detected with information gathered from radars or sonar devices. With the development of artificial intelligence technology, intelligent CCTV installed in a ship are used to detect various types of floating debris on the course of sailing. If the speed of processing video data slows down due to the various requirements and complexity of MASS, however, there is no guarantee for safety as well as smooth service support. Trying to solve this issue, this study conducted research on the minimization of computation volumes for video data and the increased speed of data processing to detect maritime objects. Unlike previous studies that used the Hough transform algorithm to find the horizon and secure the areas of interest for the concerned objects, the present study proposed a new method of optimizing a binarization algorithm and finding areas whose locations were similar to actual objects in order to improve the speed. A maritime object detection system was materialized based on deep learning CNN to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed method and assess the performance of the algorithm. The proposed algorithm performed at a speed that was 4 times faster than the old method while keeping the detection accuracy of the old method.

  • Organizational culture represents values and beliefs that members share and is a factor that influences the behavior of organizational members. Understanding organizational culture is a source of competitive advantage to increase the rate of success and efficient management of the organization. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between job satisfaction and the turnover intention of sailors. To achieve its purpose, the study was developed by examining the properties to be used for the demonstration and the purpose of the study, and verifying the hypothesis through empirical analysis. Empirical analysis showed that developmental, rational, and group cultures among organizational culture have a significant impact on job satisfaction. When the organizational culture has a group culture and an extrinsic factor to job satisfaction, it has a negative effect on turnover intention. This implies that the shipping company needs to foster organizational culture to feel like growing for Sailors themselves and to improve relationship and cooperation with other sailors rather than trying to control strongly. The shipping company will need to educate members and manage its organizational culture consistently for improving the organizational culture.

  • Eco-friendly and renewable energy sources are actively being researched in recent times, and of shore wind power generation requires advanced design technologies in terms of increasing the capacities of wind turbines and enlarging wind turbine installation vessels (WTIVs). The WTIV ensures that the hull is situated at a height that is not affected by waves. The most important part of the WTIV is the leg structure, which must respond dynamically according to the wave, current, and wind loads. In particular, the wave load is composed of irregular waves, and it is important to know the exact dynamic response. The dynamic response analysis uses a single degree of freedom (SDOF) method, which is a simplified approach, but it is limited owing to the consideration of random waves. Therefore, in industrial practice, the time-domain analysis of random waves is based on the multi degree of freedom (MDOF) method. Although the MDOF method provides high-precision results, its data convergence is sensitive and difficult to apply owing to design complexity. Therefore, a dynamic amplification factor (DAF) estimation formula is developed in this study to express the dynamic response characteristics of random waves through time-domain analysis based on different variables. It is confirmed that the calculation time can be shortened and accuracy enhanced compared to existing MDOF methods. The developed formula will be used in the initial design of WTIVs and similar structures.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the ship valuation model by utilizing the neural network model. The target of the valuation was secondhand VLCC. The variables were set as major factors inducing changes in the value of ship through prior research, and the corresponding data were collected on a monthly basis from January 2000 to August 2020. To determine the stability of subsequent variables, a multi-collinearity test was carried out and finally the research structure was designed by selecting six independent variables and one dependent variable. Based on this structure, a total of nine simulation models were designed using linear regression, neural network regression, and random forest algorithm. In addition, the accuracy of the evaluation results are improved through comparative verification between each model. As a result of the evaluation, it was found that the most accurate when the neural network regression model, which consist of a hidden layer composed of two layers, was simulated through comparison with actual VLCC values. The possible implications of this study first, creative research in terms of applying neural network model to ship valuation; this deviates from the existing formalized evaluation techniques. Second, the objectivity of research results was enhanced from a dynamic perspective by analyzing and predicting the factors of changes in the shipping. market.

  • Recently there have been much interest in the performance improvement of maritime communication system. In the maritime communication system, the wireless channel is likely to be time-invariant and the retransmission scheme is not proper because it does not provide time diversity. For the improvement of reliability, we consider MIMO ARQ scheme using Alamouti-type signal which can provide space and time diversity. In this paper, we also propose the criterion of optimal retransmission order and provide its performance of error probability and packet throughput. The proposed MIMO ARQ scheme with optimal retransmission order has performance gain over random ordered MIMO ARQ and conventional Chase combining method. Therefore we expect that it can be adapted to the next generation maritime communication system.

  • As various communication services have emerged due to the development of mobile communication technology, there is a need for a wideband antenna supporting multiple communication services with one antenna. In this paper, we propose a planar slot wideband antenna that can support all the communication services of 3.1~4.99GHz, the low frequency band of 5G, in addition to the existing communication services such as WiFi, LTE 2300/2500, and WiMAX. Through the simulation, the optimized antenna design parameters were obtained, and the antenna was fabricated to implement an antenna with a frequency bandwidth of 1.96~6.01GHz (S11 <-10dB) and presented the radiation pattern and gain of the antenna. The proposed antenna is a multi-band antenna that can provide all the services of LTE, Wifi, WiMAX, and 5G low frequency bands. It can be used as a repeater antenna in radio shadow area such as buildings, dense areas, and ships.
