  • In this paper, we compare the performance of representative MIMO techniques such as space-time block code, closed-loop transmit diversity, and V-BLAST, etc., in IEEE 802.22 environments. We first develope deco-ding algorithms of the representative MIMO techniques and design a MIMO-OFDM system employing QPSK, 16 QAM, 64 QAM to cover several transmission rates. Since the frequency band used for IEEE 802.22 systems belongs mostly to V/UHF band and the angular spread of the received signal at the base station is very small, there Is a significant correlation between the signals from transmit antennas. Thus, in this paper, we compare the performance of MIMO-OFDM systems employing only two Tx antennas in correlated fading environments.

  • A triangular microstrip antenna with T-shaped slits is proposed for tunable dual-band applications. The proposed antenna is designed using chip capacitors as a prototype. From this result the capacitor can be replaced to a varactor diode to control capacitance value. Since the input impedance of the antenna can be varied with the value of the chip capacitors on the T-shaped slits, the resonant frequency may be changed. The return losses are better than 10 dB at the lower band of $0.78{\sim}1.21$ GHz and 20 dB at the upper band of $1.97{\sim}2.17$ GHz, respectively. This antenna has the bandwidth of about 10 MHz and 50 MHz at each band. The peak gains of the antenna yield 0 dBi at the lower band and 3 dBi at the upper band, respectively. Details of the antenna design are described, and its performances are presented and analyzed.

  • In this paper, we designed a multiband monopole antenna for next-generation WLAN system. In conventional WLAN system, UWB antennas were used together, and, because the radiation occurs in different parts depending on the antenna structure, it has the disadvantage of having an unstable impulse response characteristic due to dispersion characteristics. Although a UWB antenna that has suitable radiation pattern for WLAN band, it does not have good impedance matching and has severe echo. Therefore, in this paper, a monopole antenna was designed by using CPW power feed so that various impedances can be easily implemented when designing an antenna and more parameters can be derived that can be used for design for optimal performance.

  • In this paper, a novel wideband crossed planar monopole antenna with the multiple resonance characteristics is proposed. The proposed monopole antenna can be designed by a wideband crossed planar monopole antenna with L-shaped slits. In order to generate multiple resonance characteristics on the proposed monopole antenna, the length of L-shaped slit and the number of L-shaped slits are determined at an interesting frequency. The proposed antenna having an omnidirectional radiation pattern and a high gain over the multiple resonance frequency bands, respectively, is suitable for a mobile antenna.

  • In this paper, an antenna which has quad band in GSM/DCS/PCS/Bluetooth is proposed. This structure is designed with miniaturization for wide band characteristic based on monopole antenna and log-periodic toothed trapezoid patch antenna which has slots. To achieve multi-bandwidth is used the microstrip line on the substrate. An antenna size is $35mm{\times}20mm$ on FR-4(${\varepsilon}r=4.4$) ground substrate of $35mm{\times}75mm{\times}1mm$ size. And proposed antenna is satisfied with impedance bandwidth(VSWR ${\leq}$ 3). The simulated maximum radiation gain is 1.92 dBi, 3.26 dBi, 3.97 dBi at the center frequency of 0.92 GHz, 1.97 GHz, 2.45 GHz, respectively.

  • This paper proposes a frequency reconfigurable antenna which operates at not only LTE but also other currently serviced bands. The high band(1,710-2,170 MHz) performance was satisfied through PIFA structure, and the low band performance through the additional RF Switch by changing the state between SW1 and SW2. When the RF switch is SW1 state, the operation bandwidth is 782-907 MHz (GSM), and 738-861 MHz (LTE) at OFF state. The proposed antenna has a omni-directional radiation pattern and measured peak gains were 0.04-4.68 dBi at the SW1 state and 0.92-1.53 dBi at the SW2 state, respectively. Judging from the results, proposed reconfigurable antenna is expected to be applied to LTE-Advanced mobile terminals since the antenna shows an outstanding performance.

  • In this paper, in order to research spectrum usage efficiency in urban canyon environment at the microwave band, measurement and channel capacity analysis of multi-antenna technology is described. The measurement data obtained from 3 - 4 stories building area used and the propagation characteristics at the 3.7 and 8GHz band are analysed and compared. In case of $2{\times}2$ MIMO, channel capacities of 3.7 and 8 GHz band are calculated to 9.1 bps/Hz and S bps/Hz and in case of $4{\times}4$ MIMO, 21 bps/Hz and 12.5 bps/Hz respectively. Considering the coverage, SNR and channel capacity in urban environment, MIMO propagation characteristics of 3.7 GHz are more predominate than those of 8 GHz.

  • This paper suggests an installation procedure of a smart skin prototype into an aircraft, flight demonstration test procedures and test results. Four communication and navigation antennas are embedded into one Conformal Load-bearing Antenna Structure(CLAS). Log periodic patch type antenna was designed as a multi-band antenna to cover four antenna frequency bands. The requirements of CLAS were verified by ground tests before aircraft installation. A CLAS speed-brake was installed into KT-1 aircraft and performances of dual antennas were verified as multi-antenna tests on the ground. Electromagnetic compatibility tests were conducted to check compatibility between the CLAS and all existing equipments. Flight demonstration tests were conducted by one sortie of flight test for one antenna. The activeness and continuity of communication and navigation signal during the flight, null area of antenna signal along the circling flight were monitored. The embedded antennas worked better than expected during four sorties of flight tests.

  • In this letter, a new approach is proposed for the design of a multi antenna for MIMO wireless devices. The proposed antenna covers various LTE(Long Term Evolution) service bands: band 17(704~746 MHz), band 13(746~787 MHz), band 5(824~894 MHz), and band 8(880~960 MHz). The proposed main antenna consists of a conventional monopole antenna with an inverted L-shaped slit for wideband operation. The proposed the LTE sub antenna is based on a switch loaded loop antenna structure, with a resonance frequency that can be controlled by capacitance of a logic circuit. The tuning technique for the LTE Rx antenna uses a RF MEMS(Micro-Electro mechanical system) to match the impedances to realize the bands of interest. Because the two proposed antennas are polarized orthogonally to each other, the ECC(Envelope Correlation Coefficient) characteristic between two antennas was measured to be very low (below 0.06) with an isolation characteristic below -20 dB between the two antennas in the operating overall LTE bands. The proposed antenna is particularly attractive for mobile devices that integrate LTE multiple systems.

  • In this paper, a microstrip-fed multiband monopole antenna for GPS(Global positioning system)/WiMAX(:Worldwide interoperability for microwave access)/WLAN(Wireless Local Area Networks) for applications was designed, fabricated and measured. The proposed antenna is based on a microstrip-fed structure, and composed of two rectangular double rings and L strips pair and then designed in order to get triple band characteristics. To obtain the optimized parameters, we used the simulator, Ansoft's High Frequency Structure Simulator(HFSS). The proposed antenna is made of $27.0{\times}54.0{\times}1.0mm3$ and is fabricated on the permittivity 4.4 FR-4 substrate. The experiment results shown that the proposed antenna obtained the -10 dB impedance bandwidth 300 MHz (1.325~1.625 GHz), 400 MHz (2.275~2.675 GHz), and 600 MHz (3.15~3.75 GHz) covering the GPS/WiMAX/WLAN bands. Also, the proposed antenna measured gain and radiation patterns characteristics for required operating bands.
