Immigrants', Multicultural Experts' and Librarians' Perception and Needs Analysis on Current Multicultural Library Services (도서관 다문화서비스에 대한 이주민과 다문화전문가 및 사서들의 인식과 요구조사)

  • The research aims to investigate immigrants', librarians' and multicultural experts' information needs and perception on current multicultural services in Korean libraries, and to suggest the directions for providing multicultural library services. The research collected the data through conducting both in-depth interviews and focus group interviews with immigrants, librarians and multicultural experts. The research found the significant and emergent features on immigrants' and librarians' requests and perception about current library multicultural services. On the analysis of the findings, the research discussed the implications of the policies for library multicultural services and the alternatives to improve library multicultural services and librarians' multicultural competencies.

Relationship between College Students' Multicultural Contact Experiences and Multicultural Competency: Mediating Effects of Perspective Taking and Prejudice (대학생의 다문화 접촉경험과 다문화 역량의 관계: 조망수용과 편견의 매개효과)

  • This study investigated effects of college students' multicultural contacts on multicultural competency. This study also examined mediating effects of perspective taking and prejudice. Multicultural contacts were divided into quality of contacts and quantity of contacts. Effects of quality and quantity of contacts on multicultural competency through perspective taking and prejudice were separately analyzed using two models. For the purpose, 642 Korean college students completed the questionnaires including multicultural contacts, multicultural competency, perspective taking, prejudice and demographic information. The results indicate that both quality and quantity of contacts are associated with multicultural competency, but quality of contacts are more strongly associated with multicultural competency. Also, perspective taking and prejudice mediate the relationship between quality of contacts and multicultural competency while mediators did not mediate the relationship between quantity of contacts and multicultural competency. The results indicate that intimate and positive contacts with outgroup members help enhance college students' multicultural competency through increased perspective taking and prejudice reduction. Future multicultural education for undergraduate students should focus on increasing the quality of multicultural contacts and help them with perspective taking, and reducing prejudice.

The Research on Multicultural Experiences Influence the Multicultural Understanding and Characteristics toward Multicultural Education of Early Childhood Preservice Teachers in Korea and the United States (한국과 미국 예비 유아교사의 다문화 관련 경험에 따른 다문화 이해 및 다문화교육 관련 특성에 대한 연구)

  • This research examines how experiences related to multicultural issues influence the understanding, perception, attitudes, and self-efficacy of early childhood preservice teachers toward multicultural education in Korea and the United States. 512 early childhood preservice teachers in Korea and the United States participated. Their multiculture-related experiences and their understanding, multiculture-related characteristics(perception, attitudes, and self-efficacy concerning multiculture) were measured using questionnaires. The key findings are as follows. First, more preservice teachers in the United States took multiculture-related courses, had experiences with children from multicultural families, traveled to other countries, and took courses with students from multicultural background than their counterparts in Korea. Second, there were no significant differences in understanding of multiculture according to their multiculture-related experiences between Korean and the United States preservice teachers. Third, there were no significant correlations between preservice teachers' multicultural experiences and perception and attitude toward the multicultural education in the United States. On the contrary, Korean preservice teachers who took classes with students from multicultural families showed better perception and attitude toward multicultural education. Regarding self-efficacy, there were no differences with varying multiculture-related experiences in the United States, whereas Korean preservice teachers who took multiculture-related courses exhibited higher degree of self-efficacy toward multicultural education.

  • 본 논문은 다국어 자동번역시스템에서 다국어의 번역지식(사전,규칙,정보)구축을 위해 언어유형론을 도입하는 방법론을 제안한다. 다국어 번역지식의 구축과 관련하여 기존 다국어 자동번역 시스템들에서 항상 문제가 되고 있는 것은 번역지식의 구축, 관리, 재활용의 문제이다. 번역지식의 구축은 다국어를 위한 번역지식의 크기, 다국어의 수용정도와 관련되며, 번역지식의 관리는 번역지식의 단순화 정도와 관련되며, 번역지식의 재활용은 기존에 구축된 번역지식을 새로운 언어들에 재사용 정도와 관련된다. 이러한 문제점들을 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 한국어를 포함한 다국어의 언어 친족성에 따라 번역지식을 공유하도록 하는 언어유형론에 기반한 다국어 공용 번역지식 구축 방법론을 제안하고자 한다.

Influence of Bias and Multicultural Attitude on Multicultural Efficacy in Elementary Students (초등학생의 편견과 다문화적태도가 다문화효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of bias and the multicultural attitude of elementary schoolchildren on the multicultural efficacy and to seek for the right direction of multicultural education in elementary school. To attain this purpose, this study asked 416 elementary schoolchildren to questions in Jeonbuk Province. The results are as follows. First, there is a significant difference on bias, multicultural attitude, and efficacy to gender and grade. Second, there is a meaningful correlation among bias, multicultural attitude, and multicultural efficacy. Third, the elementary schoolchildren's bias has a significant influence on the multicultural attitude and efficacy. Fourth, the elementary schoolchildren's multicultural attitude exercises a meaningful effect on the multicultural efficacy. According to this survey, a variety of multicultural programs for the elementary schoolchildren are needed to develop and apply in substance at the level of their eyes. In addition to that, a diversity of studies are needed constantly for making the elementary schoolchildren get some positive understanding on various cultures.

다국가 시나리오를 포함하는 사용후 핵연료 관리(저장, 재처리, 처분)의 전략

  • 지속가능 에너지원인 원자력은 또한 글로벌 에너지원의 특성을 갖추고 있다 핵연료는 원자로에 장전되는 신규 핵연료를 구성하고 있는 우라늄 채광 단계에서부터 연소 후에 발생하는 사용후 핵연료 (SNF 또는 SF) 관리 단계에 이르는 전과정에 걸쳐 핵연료 사이클로 파악되고 있다. 이러한 전과정 관점에서 볼 때, 핵연료 사이클에 관여하는 이해관계자는 자국뿐만 아니라 다국가 (multination)를 포함하고 있다. 특히, 후행 핵연료 사이클인 사용후 핵연료의 저장, 처리, 처분 단계에서는 다국가 시나리오를 배제하지 않는 사용후 핵연료 관리 전략의 도입이 고려될 수 있다. 여기서 다국가는 접경 국가, 인접 국가, 핵연료 공급 국가, 재처리 제공 국가, 재처리 위탁 국가, SNF 통과 허용 국가, SNF 저장 부지 제공 국가, SNF 향후 이용 국가 등이 될 수 있다 [김성호 2006]. 현재 우리나라에서는 여러 국가로부터 수입되고 있는 신규 핵연료 물질을 연소시켜 나온 사용후 핵연료를 부지내에 임시 저장하고 있다. 사용후 핵연료 발생량의 추산에 따르면, 2016년쯤에 현재 임시저장 용량이 포화될 예정이다 이러한 상황에서 다국가 시나리오를 포함한 관리 전략은 다국가 시나리오를 배제한 관리 전략과 다각적인 측면 에서 비교 검토될 필요성이 있다. 사용후 핵연료의 영구 처분장 부지 확보를 해결하기 위한 선행 단계로 공론화 단계가 지금 준비되고 있다. 예컨대, 단기 공론화 관리 방안의 하나로 비록 소극적인 입장이지만 타국 위탁 재처리 방식이 고려되고 있다 [KRS 2009] 이 연구에서는 단기적인 사용후 핵연료 관리 전략으로 여러 가지 다국가 수준의 저장, 처리, 처분 방식으로 바탕으로 다국가 시나리오들을 제안하려고 한다. 이들 다국가 시나리오를 포함한 관리 전략은 현재 다국가 시나리오를 배제한 국내 사용후 핵연료 처분장 부지 선정이 정치적/사회적 수용성 문제로 어려운 상황에 처할 경우에 해결책을 찾는 데에 기여하리라 본다. 또한, 부지 선정 단계에서 바라지 않는 난항이 나타나는 경우에 국가 차원의 한 대비책으로 다음을 제안한다: 한편으로는 자국 저장 시설이 추진되면서, 다른 편으로는 타국 저장 부지를 확보하는 전략이 검토되어야 한다. 이러한 이중 노선 (dual track) 전략은 여러 유럽 국가에서 이미 고려되고 있는 방안이다 [Greenpeace 2005] 다양한 다국성 정도 (a degree of multinationality) 의 저장, 처리, 처분 방식을 연결하는 가능한 다국가 시나리오 구조가 Fig.1에 제시되어 있다. 다국가 시나리오를 구성하는 기본 요소는 다음과 같다’ 1) 자국 임시 저장; 2) 자국 재처리; 3) 자국 중간 저장; 4) 자국 영구 처분; 5) 다국가 중간 저장; 6) 다국가 재처리; 7 ) 다국가 영구 처분. 이들 기본 요소들을 다국성 정도에 따라 결합하면 다양한 다국가 시나리오들이 얻어진다. 이들을 포함한 SNF 관리 전략은 크게는 1) 다국가 재처리 전략, 2) 다국가 저장 및 재처리 전략, 또는 3) 다국가 처분 전략 등으로 분류될 수 있다.

One-to-All and All-to-all Broadcasting Algorithms of Matrix Hypercube (매트릭스 하이퍼큐브의 일-대-다 방송과 다-대-다 방송 알고리즘)

  • Broadcasting is a basic data communication method for interconnection networks. There are two types of broadcasting. One-to-all broadcasting is to transmit a message from one node to all other nodes and all-to-all broadcasting is to transmit a message from all the nodes that have messages to other nodes. And by the using way of the transmission port per unit time, there are two schemes of broadcasting. Single port telecommunication(SLA) is to transmit messages from one node that contains the messages to one adjacent node only and all port telecommunication(MLA) is to transmit messages from one node to all adjacent nodes within a time of unit. Matrix hypercube is that an interconnection network has improved network cost than that of hypercube with the same number of nodes. In this paper, we analyze broadcasting scheme of matirx hypercube. First, we propose one-to-all and all-to-all broadcasting algorithms of matrix hypercube. And we prove that one-to-all broadcasting times are 2n+1 and $2{\lceil}{\frac{n}{2}}{\rceil}+1$ based on the SLA and MLA models, respectively. Also, we show all-to-all broadcasting time using SLA model is $5{\times}2^{\frac{n}{2}}-2$ when n=even, and is $5{\times}2^{\frac{n-1}{2}}+2$ when n=odd.

Mediating effect of Intercultural Sensitivity on the relationship between Multicultural Awareness and Multicultural Acceptance (다문화 인식과 다문화 수용성의 관계에서 상호문화감수성의 효과)

  • Aim(s): This study aims to explore the relationship between multicultural awareness, multicultural acceptance and sensitivity of nursing students in the midst of rapid changes in multiculturalism, and to explore the direction for improving multicultural awareness as health care workers in the future. A survey was conducted among 135 nursing students from two universities in one region, and 108 students, excluding random responses and dropouts, were the final subjects for analysis. For data analysis, frequency analysis, correlation analysis, reliability analysis and mediation effects were tested using SPSS and process Macros. The results confirmed a statistically significant relationship between multicultural awareness and multicultural acceptance (r=.572, p<.001). The relationship between mutual cultural sensitivity, multicultural acceptance (r=.650, p<.001) and multicultural awareness (r=.456, p<.001) also showed a significant positive correlation. In addition, the effect of mutual cultural sensitivity was confirmed in the relationship between multicultural awareness and multicultural acceptance. As a result, in the relationship between multicultural awareness and multicultural acceptability, intercultural sensitivity ranged from 0.188 to 0.554, and the 95% confidence interval did not include 0; thus, indirect effect was statistically significant. Considering these results, it was confirmed that it is important to increase multicultural awareness and intercultural sensitivity in order to increase multicultural acceptance.

A Study on the Model of Multicultural Services in Public Libraries (공공도서관의 다문화서비스 모형 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to establish core elements required for the implementation of multicultural library services, to analyze the features of each element, and to develop a model of effective multicultural library services. This model was aimed to improve multicultural services and programs currently managed on a short-term basis by public libraries in Korea and help those libraries develop more systematic and long-term multicultural services. To proceed with this study, the literature review, a case study and a survey(the exploratory factor analysis, T-test and ANOVA analysis) were conducted. In this study, it is found that more effective operation of multicultural services in public libraries requires cooperation and integration with not only other libraries and related social and educational institutions in a community, but also international network. Based on this idea, the model of operating multicultural services in public libraries in Korea was proposed in this study.

The Effects of Elementary School Students' Multicultural Awareness and Multicultural Experience, Parents' Stereotype on Multicultural afficacy in Elementary School Students (초등학생의 다문화 인식과 다문화 경험, 학부모의 고정관념이 초등학생의 다문화 효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purposes of the study are to understand how multicultural efficacy is different and to affecting the multicultural efficacy. To achieve the goals, the study conducted surveys to examine an interrelation of multicultural efficacy on 272 elementary school students in Namyangju-si with questionnaires. First, the results showed that multicultural efficacy of elementary school students scored 2.84 on five point scale. Second, the elements that affected multicultural efficacy of elementary school students include 'openness', 'acceptance', 'respect' of elementary school student toward multiculture awareness, at the same time, elementary students' indirect experience of multiculture and direct experience also make significant influence. The study suggests to develop multiculture-related educational programs, in order to enhance multicultural efficacy and multicultural awareness of elementary students.
