The study aims to gain information for developing educational contents to support LPSMB(low-performing students with multicultural backgrounds) through the survey on their personal characteristics, attitudes related to learning, and learning environment. We analyzed a survey of 2,091 students from 200 schools who were low-performing Korean students, LPSMBs, and normally performing students with multicultural backgrounds. Normally performing students with multicultural backgrounds showed statistically significant higher scores on most questionnaires than low-performing Korean students and LPSMBs. However, normally performing students with multicultural backgrounds and LPSMs showed statistically significant lower scores on identity and social relationships. LPSMBs showed lower scores on parents' culture than normally performing students with multicultural backgrounds. We suggested how to support LPSMBs' learning and learning environment based on the survey results.

The study aims to gain information for developing educational content to support LPSMBs (low-performing students with multicultural backgrounds) in elementary and middle schools. The procedure involved surveying students about their personal characteristics, attitudes related to learning, and learning environment. I analyzed responses from 1,147 students from 200 elementary schools and 3,760 students from 320 middle schools who were LPSMBs and NPSMBs (normally performing students with multicultural backgrounds). LPSMBs in both elementary and middle school showed statistically significant lower scores on most questionnaires related to learning and learning environment than NPSMBs. LPSMBs in elementary schools showed higher scores on teachers' learning support, LPSMBs in middle school showed higher scores on classmates' learning support. LPSMBs born in foreign countries need to be given opportunities to learn Korean as well as their father's and mother's culture. I give suggestions for how to support LPSMBs' learning and learning environment based on the survey results.

Multi-cultural students have a variety of problems, such as the lack of Korean communication skills, learning slump and psychological anxiety. In order to solve these problems, It is developed to design a software education program for learning attitude, friendship interaction and sociality. It is developed on the basis of the major steps in the ADDIE model, Use-Needs-Design-Implementation-Share for multi-cultural elementary school students. To analyze the effects of software education Program, we chose the 15 elementary school students of 4th, 5th and 6th grade and adapted the program. Then, we analyzed the educational effects through the results of pre to post tests. Consequently, the software education program developed for this research revealed that it affected the learning attitude, friendship, sociality and programming interest of multi-cultural students.

This case study examines the experiences of an African American student's successful second language acquisition in Korea. There is an increasing number of multicultural families in Korea; but few research on African American students' second language learning. In the past, some American researchers have analyzed African American students as academic underachievers for learning and there is a scarcity of research on African American students' successfully acquiring a second language. With this qualitative research design, the researchers interviewed, and observed an African American girl named Mary. The researchers also interviewed Mary's mother, teacher, and peers about Mary's Korean language development. The results of this study revealed Mary's determined efforts to become a fluent Korean speaker with support from family, community and friends. Mary underwent unique social and systematic supports for her language development. This paper concludes with the educational implication for multicultural language learners in Korea and the possibility to diminish the common stereotypes of African Americans as underachievers.
