  • Satellite imagery information have not been fully utilized due to the low R&D investment in remote sensing application though Korea had succeeded in developing series of earth observing satellites during the last decades. However, another series of earth observing satellites such as KOMPSAT 3, 3-A, 5 are going to be launched in the near future. And recent global warming issues stimulate both private and public sectors to make the most of satellite imagery information. Therefore, it is inevitable to promote the utilization of Korean satellite imagery information. In this study, we analyzed the demand and restrictions in exploitation of satellite imagery information in Korea through the online survey and interview. The results showed that the standardization of pre-processing, service of detailed technical information, fast and reliable image data delivery system are mostly required.

  • FTL(Fuel Test Loop) is a facility that confirms performance of nuclear fuel at a similar irradiation condition with that of nuclear power plant. FTL consists of In-Pile Test Section (IPS) and Out-Pile System (OPS). FTL construction work began on August, 2006 and ended on March, 2007. During Construction, ensuring the worker's safety was the top priority and installation of the FTL without hampering the integrity of the HANARO was the next one. Task Force Team was organized to do a construction systematically and the communication between members of the task force team was done through the CoP(community of Practice) notice board provided by the Institute. The installation works were done successfully overcoming the difficulties such as on the limited space, on the radiation hazard inside the reactor pool, and finally on the shortening of the shut down period of the HANARO. Without a sweet of the workers of the participating company of HEC(Hyundae Engineering Co, Ltd), HDEC(HyunDai Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd), equipment manufacturer, and the task force team, it is not possible to install the FTL facility within the planned shutdown period. The Commissioning of the FTL is on due to check the function and the performance of the equipment and the overall system as well. The FTL shall start operation with high burn up test fuels in early 2008 if the commissioning and licensing progress on schedule.

  • This study was carried out in order to produce useful material for the forest multiple use and forest protection management by soil physio-chemical analysis of studied area in Mt. Namsan. The result of soil physio-chemical analysis and statical analysis represented as following. In side of physical properties of forest soil in Mt. Namsan, Soil depth was average 31.4cm and available soil depth was average 20.0cm. Soil type was Brown forest soil that representative soil type in Korea. Soil texture was sandy loom(SL) except valley area. In side of chemical properties, the range of soil acidity was 4.29 ~ 5.19 (average 4.76), organic matter content was 3.17% that compared the lowest value to organic matter content of Korea forest soil. Available phosphorus was 3.64ppm that was lower than others forest soil. Exchangeable cation content was similar to the Korea brown forest soil. Cation exchange capacity(CEC) was $8.22cmol_c/kg$ in Mt. Narnsan.

  • Aerial imagery, Satellite imaging and Hyperspectral imaging(HSI) are widely using at mapping those of agriculture, woodland, waters shoreline, and land cover, but are rarely applied at the Cadastre. There are many study cases on the overlay of aerial imagery and satellite imaging with Cadastral Map and the upgrade and registration of Cadastre' Land Category, however, reported as successful. Therefore, this study has been aimed to show the use of the Hyperspectral Imaging technology for Cadastre, especially for the land category. Also, the HSI sensor could function as a geospatial acquisition tool for error checks of the existed land categories, and as a helpful tool for acquiring the attributes and spatial data, such as the agriculture, soil, and vegetation, etc. This result indicates that HSI sensor can implement the Multipurpse Cadastre(MPC) by fusing with the cadastral information.

  • Bidet is widely used and is being developed for multipurpose. However, use of this bidet varies by the elderly and disabled people. Therefore, this research compares and analyze need of bidet for elderly and disabled people and by many different types. This survey was conducted targeting 39 elderly and 120 disabled people. This survey is consist of questions that varies by bidet companies and includes questions like UI cognitive abilities, automatic water flushing, position of control box and necessary of embossment for icons. As a result, elderly and disabled people showed similar in result but for visually impaired person, the ratio of preference showed 1:9 which is opposite. As for visually impaired person, the ratio of preference showed 1:9 which is pretty high.

  • This research aims to find an optimal space program and analysis of optimal land of the national model of the scientific and technical information center. And the objective of this study is to contribute to strengthen the need of the building of information center and provide operation programs and vision toward information center which will be established later. We suggested a basic plan of scale and space program for proper space uses and optimal facilities and state-ofthe-art equipment of building. Also, we selected alternative land by document study, and suggested optimal land by field works and studies.

  • The FTL has been developed to be able to irradiate test fuels at the irradiation hole(IR1 hole) by considering its utility and user's irradiation requirements. FTL consists of In-Pile Test Section (IPS) and Out-of-Pile System (OPS). Test condition in IPS such as pressure, temperature and the water quality, can be controlled by OPS. For safety assurance IPS is designed to have dual stainless steel pressure vessel and OPS is composed of main cooling water system, emergency cooling water system, LMP(letdown, make-up, purification) system, etc. FTL Conceptual design was set up in 2001, basic design had completed including a design requirement, basic piping & instrument diagram (P&ID), and the detail design in 2004. In 2005, the development team carried out purchase and manufacture hardware and make a contract for construction work. FTL construction work began on August, 2006 and ended on March, 2007. After FTL development which is expected to be finished by 2008, FTL will be used for the irradiation test of the new PWR-type fuel and can maximize the usage of HANARO.

  • With the advent of uniquitous life, changes of users' demands make a public library accomplish roles and functions of a complex service center providing information, education and culture service. As a multi-function center, a public library provides various services based on physical and digital space in ubiquitous environment. Information commons is a basement of physical space in an u-Library. Especially, with the advent of ubiquitous environment, design and use of physical space will be a critical issue for a public library to perform its role and function as a multiple complicated space. This study derives facilities and components for designing and implementing information commons in a public library as a physical space. To perform the goals, this study focuses on the newest trends and requirements through literature study, case study and survey. As a result, this study proposes components of facility and principles of design to implement information commons as a physical space in a public library.
