This study attempted to demonstrate the interaction effects between attitudinal frames of nine daily newspapers and community structure in the 1994s Michigan gubernatorial election. It was theoretically guided by framing research and the self-presentation theory of social-cognition perspective and empirically tested with archival data. For the purpose of this study, content analysis of nine statewide daily newspapers was employed in order to provide data on news framing. Data on voting rates for John Engler, winner of the 1994 Michigan Gubernatorial election, in each county of Michigan were used for vote choice while Michigan census data were used for constructing an Index of community structural differentiation. The results indicated that majority compliance frames were slightly more related with vote choice in homogeneous com-unities rather than were majority compliance frames in heterogeneous communities while social identification frames tended to have an influence on vote choice in heterogeneous communities more than did social identification frames in homogeneous communities.

In this paper, an anchor shot detection method, which is a basic technology for managing news videos for index and retrieval purposes is proposed. To do that, two most popular news program such as 'KBS 9 Hour News' and 'MBC 9 Hour News' are analyzed and 4-step rule based detection method is proposed First, in the preprocessing, video shot boundaries are detected and the 1st frame of each shot is extracted as a key frame. Then, the detected shot is declared as an anchor shot, if all the following 4 conditions are satisfied. 1) There is an anchor face in the key frame of a shot. 2) Spatial distribution of edges in the key frame is adequate. 3) Background color information of the key frame is similar to the color information of an anchor model. 4) Motion rate in the shot is low. In order to show the validity of the proposed method, three 'KBS 9 Hour News' and three 'MBC 9 Hour News', which have total running time of 108 in minute and are broadcasted at different days, are used for experiments. Average detection rates showed 0.97 in precision, 1.0 in recall, and 0.98 in F-measure.

This study explores the news frames on the U. S. beef imports and candlelight vigils covered by the two national dailies such as ChosunIlbo and the Hankyoreh Shinmun; the KwangwonIlbo, a local daily. The news frames extracted based on the models of Iyengar(1987), Semetko & Valkenburg(2000) and other researchers are attribution of responsibility, economic sequences, protest against the authorities, national health and governmental public relations and so on. The result shows that the news reports are consisted of the straight news(75.9%), feature stories(11.7%) and editorials(6.3%). More specifically, there is a comparatively hight ratio of editorials(11.0%) for the ChosunIlbo, feature stories(20.9%) for the Hankyoreh, and the straight news(89.7%) for the KwangwonIlbo. In terms of the news frames stressed by the three dailies, the ChosunIlbo focuses and stresses on the national health(17.8%) and the attribution of responsibilities(10.6%). However, the Hankyoreh have a tendency to stress on the protest against the authorities(31.3%) and attribution of responsibilities(38.4%); the KwangwonIlbo, focuses on the protest against the authorities(38.4%) and the economic sequences(17.9%). Finally, in the case of the main characteristics of the dailies, the governmental public relations frame is found only on the ChosunIlbo that has a comparatively high ratio; the Hankyoreh also has a high ratio of the feature stories on the U. S. beef imports. Even thought the KwangwonIlbo has a high ratio of the economic sequence frame, the ratio of opinion pages, such as editorial and columns, the local newspaper has not spoken up for the potential economic crisis of the local Kwangwon province beef industry, mainly caused by the U. S. import beef.

In this study, we examined the influence of news frame and involvement on risk perception. Based on individuals' optimistic bias in risk judgement and the third-person effect theory, we developed research hypotheses. An experiment was conducted in which 243 undergraduate and graduate students participated. Results indicated that societal level risk judgements were relatively invariant across experimental conditions but personal level risk judgements were influenced by the news frame and individuals' involvement in irradiated food. Based on the results, we provide explanations concerning when and how optimistic bias takes place in each experimental condition.

This research points out how the major newspapers and the Local newspaper try to report the issue of development in Incheon Free Economic Zone differently and observe how the press has played a role in a process. It is seen that the type of story-leading has been followed by properly traditional one as usual and reflected the recent trends well in both. The perspectives of ChosunIlbo to look at the regional issue is taken in the situation of a middle clear attitude but KyeonginIlbo is faithful to make the position of the monitor. In other words, a Metropolitan newspaper often deals with the regional issues in a more passive posture, while a Local daily newspaper tries to report the same issue in a more positive and active form. This kind of attitude upon news composition reflects the quality of the news, which is a standard of actual newspaper articles. The ChosunIlbo focuses on the political issues more while, KyeonginIlbo emphasizes on the cultural similarities. And they trace the economic importance, human interest but less to the structural figures.

Through the Broadcasting Act, Republic of Korea regulates the broadcasting system to remain neutral regarding particular party or candidate. However, as MBC and JTBC reports the issue of President Park's impeachment in bisected way - conservative and progressive - the controversy aroused. This research paper comparatively analyzed each broadcasting company's evening news by focusing on quantity aspect, reporting tendency regarding trend of public opinion and mass rally and the news frame. Our research showed that both JTBC and MBC had partially reported; JTBC on pro-impeachment rally's side which was called candlelight rally, and MBC on anti-impeachment rally's side, called Korean National Flag rally. Regarding the way how they reported the impeachment, JTBC reported much more in depth than MBC, and MBC reported the process emotionally, standing for President Park.

This study pays attention to the fact that the fake news is attracting attention because it causes various social problems. To find out these fake news' influence, the study conducted the experiment to examine that the fake news related to the electronic voting system affects on the news users' attitude of using the system, intention to participate in the election through the system and reliability of news services. The results have shown that the fake news framed with negative contents reduced users' attitude of using the system and intention of participation in the election. Especially, as a result of examining the difference in the fake news' influence according to each news services, in the case that users recognized that the news was fake after exposing to the general internet news, the attitude of using the system and the intention of participation in the election have reduced and recovered again. However, users who exposed to Naver, Facebook believed the negative content of the fake news more strongly. Through these results, this study empirically confirmed that the fake news has a tendency to exert influence on users' cognitive dimension and to reinforce awareness in a direction consistent with the initial exposure information.

This paper regards former Samsung lawyer Kim Yong-Chul's action of claiming Samsung Group's slush fund as typical Whistle-Blowing from inside. News frames in KBS, SBS TV were examined through comparative analysis. In formal feature, 'episodic news frame' hold an absolute majority in both stations. From news sources, the group of whistle-blower such as lawyer Kim Yong-Chul and civic groups was confronted with Samsung and state authorities including the Prosecutor, financial agencies. Analysis on the theme of news coverages demonstrated 5 frames: 'public announcing frame', 'news of conflict frame' 'demanding a close inquiry frame', 'declaration of conscience frame', 'causing social upheaval frame', Analysis result shows that 'public announcing frame' was most frequently used in reporting and there was distinction between KBS and SBS in 'declaration of conscience frame' and 'causing social upheaval frame'. Relatively KBS preferred 'declaration of conscience frame' and SBS would use 'causing social upheaval frame', from which reciprocal relation as media ownership could be analogized. Both media tend to make light of in-depth news coverages on structural issues or essential settlement and it is shown that both stations treated this situation with intriguing audiences as stressing sensitive parts in this event. Follow-up of changing process of 'declaration of conscience frame' through diachronic analysis on framing informs that additional exposure of 'Lee Yong Chul', former secretary in Nov 19, 2007 influenced increasing of frequency of using 'declaration of conscience frame'. However, news reporting on whistle-blower in KBS and SBS generally adheres to passive attitude of following changes in the surroundings rather than playing an active role in improving social recognition on whistle-blowing, which can induce to the spread of negative feature on it. Thus it is assumed that terrestial television broadcasting should regard whistle-blowing as contradiction in social structures and active depth reporting seems to be neded for improving social recognition on whistle-blowing.

기존의 히스토그램을 이용한 샷 전환 탐지 방법은 연속적인 두 프레임의 전체 또는 대응되는 동일한 크기의 소 영역의 히스토그램을 사용하며, 객체의 이동이나, 프레임의 밝기 변화에 취약한 문제점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이 문제점들을 해결하기 위하여 연속적인 두 프레임(현재와 참조 프레임)을 소영역으로 분할한 후, 현재 프레임의 소 영역과 두 프레임사이에서 발생할 수 있는 객체의 이동을 고려한 참조 프레임에서의 소 영역의 비교, 그리고 참조 프레임의 소 영역에서 얻은 화소 밝기 히스토그램에 밝기 변화를 보상한 후, 현재 프레임의 소 영역에서 얻은 화소 밝기 히스토그램과 비교하는 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법은 영화와 뉴스 같은 비디오 데이터에 좋은 결과를 보였다.
