  • It is impossible to drive induction motor through line-commutated inverter without the forced-commutation. Therefore, the forced-commutated circuit is proposed in this paper. The line-commutated inverter is operated by load commutation in abovea half of the rated frequency. In this paper, the experimental result is presented by the IM driving.

  • The speed-torque characteristics of the squirrel cage induction motor is determined by the rotor resistance. This paper presents the fabrication and test results of an HTS induction motor. Conventional end rings and short bars were replaced with HTS tapes in the rotor. Test result shows that the speeds of the HTS induction motor were the same with synchronous speed and the starting torque was about 19Nm.

  • This paper presents a position control system for a linear induction motor(LIM) with cage-type secondary using direct thrust control(DTC). The position controller, that combines the merits of integral-proportional(IP) speed control, is designed for the LIM. The actual position of the LIM is defected by the linear scale the resolution of 100. Thrust correction coefficient due to the end effect of the LIM is utilized in estimating actual thrust. As a result, responses of the position, speed, thrust, and flux are shown.

  • This paper describes the calculation of the equivalent circuit parameters according to the slip in squirrel-cage induction motor. Recently, the induction motor is demanded of the various operation condition. In order to acquire the accurate characteristic for the operation condition of the motor, equivalent circuit parameters have to be calculated accurately. So the equivalent circuit parameters are computed by using the finite element method, the reliable characteristic analysis is carried out by application of the parameter to the equivalent circuit analysis. From the analysis result using this combined equivalent circuit and finite element method is compared with the experimental results by a detailed equivalent circuit, the validity of the method is proved.

  • In this paper, electromagnetic fields of a linear induction motor with cage-type secondary are analyzed by the finite element method. Contact resistances between end-bars and secondary conductors are considered in the finite element analysis. The field quantify is a magnetic vector potential transformed into a phasor form. As a result, the sensitivities of a phase current thrust and normal force are presented according to the variation of the contact resistance.

  • In this paper, the torque characteristics and the bar loss distribution are analyzed when a general cage induction motor with skewed slots is fed by a 6-step inverter. For the electromagnetic analysis, time-stepping finite element method is used. And the multi-slice technique and sliding surface technique are respectively utilized to consider the skew effect and the rotation of the rotor. As a result, the effects of skewed rotor bar and the inverter output voltage on the characteristics of the torque and bar loss in the rotor are investigated. The simulation results are verified by measurement of flux density distribution axially in the stator teeth.

  • This paper deals with the effect on the stress and deformation of the rotor bar of a cage induction motor by the thermal stress, centrifugal force and electromagnetic force. We use both the thermal network method(TNM) and the finite element method(FEM) to analyze the temperature and stress of the rotor.

  • The nonuniform thermal sources of a squirrel cage induction motor are obtained from the losses calculated by the nonlinear complex finite element analysis considering skew effects. Then, temperature rises of the motor are calculated using thermal equivalent network analysis and compared with some experimental values.

  • A squirrel cage canned induction motor for the main coolant pump of the integral reactor, SMART was designed, manufactured and tested. The motor was first designed using the equivalent circuit theory to determine major dimensions and then finalized through finite element analyses for electromagnetic and thermal characteristics. In order to verify the design methodology, a reduced scale canned induction motor was manufactured and tested. The experimental results have shown a good agreement with the analysis results.

  • This paper presents a method for determining of the equivalent d-q model parameters of three-phase squirrel cage induction motors. The method is based on the use of a finite-element field calculation which enables the precise slot geometry to be modelled accurately, and includes the effects of magnetic saturation of iron core. The proposed method can reduce computational costs compared with the method that needs the iterative field analysis to obtain the impedance. It is verified that the circuit inductances are shown as functions of the current.
