  • This study is to suggest a classification system to classify the agricultural information resources on the internet. In the first part, I analyzes KDC's class 520(agriculture science). The second part compares the agricultural classes of Yahoo! Korea with those of Empas search engine. The third part compares the classes of AFFIS with Agri_Directory. Based on the comparative analysis, it proposes a classificatory system for the agricultural information resources on the internet.

  • The purpose of this study is to devise a classification scheme to arrange the agricultural information efficiently. In the first part it defines the agricultural science and studies the content and system of the agricultural science. It compares current KDC with DDC, UDC and NDC used to agriculture parts, and it studies AGRICOLA SCC. On the basis of it, this study is displayed the new classification for the agricultural science. The new classification scheme Is classified by the basic theories related to agriculture, agriculture of plants, animal agriculture, food products, and auxiliary disciplines in turn. The number of main divisions are set up 23 items.

  • This study intends to analyze the library classification of agriculture in DDC, from the Int edition to the 21th edition. Since Dewey Decimal Classification(DDC) was the first published in 1876, number of total items increased significantly a newly-organized and subdivision of them in the 8th, 10th and 12th edition. According as the discipline developed and was specialized, the agricultural division in DDC was fractionized, and new subjects were continuously added to it. After that time the first edition, the major changes arranged an class and order in the 15th and 17th edition. That is to say, ‘Farm economics’ in 631.1 was relocated to 338.1 in the 17th and ‘Veterinary sciences’ in 619 was relocated to 636.089 in the 15th. Especially, up to now ‘Farm Economics’ deals with an important branch in the science of agriculture. Here the matter of argue heatedly arranges it from economics to agriculture.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the problems of classified items by directly applying the domestic literary publications of agriculture field one by one and to present revision scheme having KDC as the subject of the study. In order to do this, I directly applied and analyzed KDC's 4th edition to the 5,400 literatures of agricultural field from the collection list database at the National Library of Korea. Revision scheme of KDC's agricultural field that's been made based on the above revision scheme tried to follow the basic classified systems and items of KDC's 4th edition, if possible, and in terns of necessary items, it includes only addition of cycles and the minimum subdivided extension.

  • This paper reports on the development of an automatic book classification system using the faced classification principles of CC(Colon Classification). To conduct this study, some 670 words in the botanical field were selected, analyzed in terms [P], [M], [E], [S], [T] employed in CC 7, and included in a database for classification. The principle of an automatic classification system is to create classification numbers automatically through automatic subject recognition and processing of key words in titles through the facet combination method of CC. Particularly, a classification database was designed along with a matrix-principle specifying the subject field for each word, which can allow automatic subject recognition possible.

  • Studies on the role of agricultural science colleges are mostly divided into agricultural production, which is the primary function of agriculture, and other functions, which have recently begun to be emphasized as a result of social needs. With the green revolution and the aging of the farming population, there is a strong view that the role of agricultural science colleges should remain as it is. However, agriculture is expanding in terms of concept and content by converging with other industries not traditionally associated with agricultural production. Thus, the fields that now need to form part of agricultural science knowledge are becoming more detailed and expansive. The government's perception remains at the level of merely fostering farmers. This was evident in a survey on the employment rate, a factor used to evaluate colleges, in which the role of agricultural science colleges was limited to fostering farmers. Agro- industry fields, other than agriculturalists, include general industries in which the academic fields of agricultural science are combined with other academic fields. Thus, even when someone is employed in an industry that requires background knowledge of agricultural science, there is often a perception that he or she is employed in a field that is irrelevant to the major. This study examines the role of agricultural science colleges in agriculture and farm villages by focusing on the employment of graduates of these colleges within agro-industry. We categorize academic research on agricultural science into 16 fields, based on the medium level of the National Standard Science and Technology Classification Codes. Then, we categorize the employment fields into 168 fields, based on the small classification level of the inter-industry relations classification. Thus, we investigate 220 departments of 37 colleges, nationwide. Our findings show that the average employment rate of graduates of agricultural science colleges is 69.0%. Furthermore, 33.0% of all employees work in agro-industry fields that require background knowledge in agricultural science, which is one out of three job seekers. Then, 3.6% of employees work in business startups in agro-industry. The aforementioned government survey showed that only 0.1% of all college graduates in Korea were employed as agriculturalists in 2013. However, our results showed that 13.3% of graduates were working as agriculturalists, which is significantly different to the results of the government survey. These results confirm that agricultural science colleges contribute greatly to the employment of graduates, including farmers, agro-industry, and business startups in agro-industry fields.

  • Raw food materials including agricultural, fishery and livestock products have been classified differently from either production or consumption aspects. Though a unified classification scheme based on residue potential of chemicals such as pesticides, veterinary drugs and environmental contaminants is needed for tolerance setting and regulatory work, diverse classification of food mateials brought about much confusion. This study attempted to point out problems encountered in applying the residue limits toward several food commodities and to propose more reasonable classification of food materials in accommodation of Codex standards. Some suggestions were proposed in establishing residue limits of chemicals including pesticides on the basis of food classification scheme attempted here.

  • This study was focused on the investigation of the phytoplankton flora and community structure for changing of water environment at the rivers in the lower part of Nakdong river, The samples for this study were collected every month from Jan. 2004 To Dec. 2004. the 196 species belonged to 94 genera were identified during this study periods. The number of species was recorded the maximum 124 taxa in summer and the minimum 69 taxa in winter, We observed the maximum taxa (92 taxa) at the site No. 20 and the minimum taxa (55 taxa) at the site No. 8, respectively. Among the phytoplankton communities, diatoms were dominated over 40% of total phytoplankton groups. Subdominant groups were green algae (over 20% of total phytplankton groups). During this study periods, the 60 species were investigated ecologically significant species (46 cosmopolitic species, 25 pollution indicator, 21 redtide causative species, 8 dominant species, and 7 frequently occurred species). According to the cluster analysis by similarity index, the study sites could be divided into 4 groups.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify interdisciplinarity among eight research areas based upon the correlations between researchers' department affiliations and research areas. More specifically, eight research areas and their sub-areas, 153 sub-areas with researchers' department affiliations were analyzed in terms of Pearson correlation analyses. The findings demonstrated that there was interdisciplinarity between Social Science and Multiple Science Areas, Social Science and Medical & Pharmaceutical Area, Natural Science and Medical & Pharmaceutical Area, and Medical & Pharmaceutical Area and Agricultural Science.
