Characteristics of Leuconostoc spp. isolated from radish kimchi and its immune enhancement effect (무김치에서 분리한 Leuconostoc 속의 특성과 면역증강 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the characteristics of Leuconostoc spp. isolated from radish kimchi and to investigate the potential for the use of functional ingredients by evaluating enzymatic characteristics, safety, and immune-enhancing effects among the isolates, including Lactobacillus rhamnosus ATCC53103 (LGG) as a control strain. All test strains exhibited β-glucosidase enzyme activity that releases β-1,4 sugar chain bonds. In addition, as a result of antibiotic resistance assay among the isolates, MIC values on 8 antibiotics were below compared to the EFSA standard, and hemolytic experiments confirmed that all showed gamma hemolysis without hemolytic ability. As a result of the antibacterial activity experiment, the Leu. mesenteroides K2-4 strain showed a higher activity than LGG against Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus. Additionally, the activity of the NF-kB/AP-1 transcription factor increased when the isolates were treated in macrophage RAW cells. These results were related to increasing the high mRNA expression levels on TNF-α and IL-6 by Leu. mesenteroides K2-4 strain to be treated at low concentration. Consequently, we suggest that it will be useful as a candidate for functional food ingredients.

Evaluation of Agronomic Characteristics, Nutritional Contents, and Insect Response of the Transgenic Potato Resistant to Glufosinate Ammonium (제초제 저항성 형질전환 감자의 농업적 특성, 영양 성분 및 해충 반응성 평가)

  • The agronomic characteristics, nutritional contents, and insect response of the potato clones transformed with a glufosinate ammonium resistance gene were evaluated. Among the 4 transgenic potato clones, the Bar 3 clone was selected as a promising one for commercialization. The Bar 3 clone showed similar tuber yield capacity but higher herbicide resistance as compared with the non-transgenic potato cv. Dejima. The herbicide resistance of the Bar 3 clone was more than 5 times higher when tested with the herbicide concentration recommended by the producer. The major agronomic characteristics of the Bar 3 clone were not different from those of the non-transgenic Dejima. The annual variation in yields and agronomic characteristics showed similar tendency for 2 years from the third to fourth generation after transformation. The tubers of the Bar 3 clone also showed low occurrence in common scab and physiological disorders such as cracking and secondary growth. But the reasons for such results are yet to be studied. Also, it was considered that the Bar 3 clone have a potential of reducing not only common scab occurrence but also soil erosion during potato cultivation in field. The nutritional contents (mineral compound, vitamin C and amino acid) and response to Spodoptera exigua of the transgenic potato clones were not significantly different.

Rationalization of Fertilizing and Development of Fetilizer (시비(施肥)의 합리화(合理化)와 비종개발(肥種開發))

  • The objective of this paper is to review the changes in fertilizer use pattern and to discuss some aspects of the fertilizer development in Korea. Fertilizer consumption in Korea have steadily increased to triple the application rates of N, P and K during the 15 years from 1965 to 1980, and Korea became one of the countries which apply fertilizers at the highest rate. The ratio of N: $P_2O_5$: $K_2O$ in fertilizer consumption changed from 55.4 : 31.4 : 13.1 in 1965 to 54.0 : 23.8 : 22.2 in 1980. It can be said that Korean farmers practise a balanced fertilization at least in view of fertilizer consumption as compared to other developing countries. However, differences in soil properties, crops, and climate varying as region were not reflected on fertilization. In the technological development of fertilizer, the chemical form and composition of the fertilizer as well as the suitability to the specific crops must be taken into consideration for the efficient use of fertilizers. Although organic fertilizers and manure are accepted as minor element suppliers, it is necessary to add minor elements into chemical fertilizers on the industrial process. Industrial waste may be used for the agricultural production as a measure of pollution control providing careful study on the waste.

Response of Structural, Biochemical, and Physiological Vegetation Indices Measured from Field-Spectrometer and Multi-Spectral Camera Under Crop Stress Caused by Herbicide (마늘의 제초제 약해에 대한 구조적, 생화학적, 생리적 계열 식생지수 반응: 지상분광계 및 다중분광카메라를 활용하여)

  • The response of vegetation under the crop stress condition was evaluated using structural, biochemical, and physiological vegetation indices based on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images and field-spectrometer data. A high concentration of herbicide was sprayed at the different growth stages of garlic to process crop stress, the above ground dry matter of garlic at experimental area (EA) decreased about 46.2~84.5% compared to that at control area. The structural vegetation indices clearly responded to these crop damages. Spectral reflectance at near-infrared wavelength consistently decreased at EA. Most biochemical vegetation indices reflected the crop stress conditions, but the meaning of physiological vegetation indices is not clear due to the effect of vinyl mulching. The difference of the decreasing ratio of vegetation indices after the herbicide spray was 2.3% averagely in the case of structural vegetation indices and 1.3~4.1% in the case of normalization-based vegetation indices. These results meant that appropriate vegetation indices should be utilized depending on the types of crop stress and the cultivation environment and the normalization-based vegetation indices measured from the different spatial scale has the minimized difference.

  • 연구목적: 생산자와 소비자의 물리적 사회적 거리가 가까워지고, 1일 유통체계 준수에 의한 높은 신선도 유지, 먹거리에 대한 생산자와 생산정보 공유에 의한 농산물 안전성 향상 등 여러 장점 때문에 늘어나고 있는 로컬 푸드의 지속발전을 모색하고자 로컬 푸드 참여농가의 농작업 어려움 조사 및 기계화 방안 제시 조사방법: 전북 완주군 소재 용진농협에서 운영 중인 로컬 푸드 직매장에 농산물을 공급하는 농업인 21인을 대상으로 2016년 11월에 로컬 푸드의 어려운 점, 주요 생산품목, 가장 힘든 농작업, 기계화가 시급한 농작업, 농기계 도입에 어려운 점, 의견 및 건의사항을 설문 조사 분석하였음 결과 및 고찰: 로컬 푸드 참여 농가들은 4~5개 품목을 소량 생산하고, 농가에서 수확 소포장 라벨 부착 후 매장에 직접 진열하고 있었음. 농협은 정선 선별기, 소형 도정기, 포장기, 바코드 기계 등을 설치하여 농가 공동이용, 안전성 신선도 관리 등 교육, 스마트폰 앱을 매장 재고 현황을 농업인에게 실시간으로 제공 등 지원하고 있음. 조사에 응한 농업인 21명 중 60대(13명) > 50대(5명) > 70대(3명)로 모두 50대 이상이었음. 어려운 점에 대한 물음에 대해서는 '판매가 어렵다'(45%) > '인력이 부족하다'(40%) > '생산비가 많이 든다'(8.5%) > 기타(6.5%) 순이었음. '인력부족'은 파종과 수확 시기에 노동력이 집중적으로 필요한 것에 기인하고, 경지 규모가 다소 큰 농가에서는 농사일을 전문으로 하는 외국인 노동자를 고용함으로 노동력 부족 문제를 해소하지만, 소규모 농가는 품삯을 주고 고용할 경우 오히려 적자이기 때문에 고되더라도 자체 노동력으로 해결하고 있는 것으로 조사되었음. 가장 힘든 작업은 수확(81%) > 파종 정식(19%)으로 수확이 절대적으로 힘든 작업이라고 응답하였고, 기계화가 시급한 작업은 수확(71%) > 파종 정식(29%)으로 응답하였음. 힘든 이유로는 적기에 수확을 끝내야 상품성을 인정받을 수 있기 때문에 단기간에 많은 노동력이 요구된다고 응답하였음. 농기계 도입에 어려운 원인으로는, '적합한 수확기계가 없다'(48%)와 '재배면적이 적어 필요성을 못 느낀다'(29%)가 대부분이었고, 이밖에 '가격이 비싸다'(10%), '기계 정확도가 떨어진다'(10%), '기계 조작이 어렵다'(5%)로 나타났음. 결론: 로컬 푸드 참여 농가를 대상으로 농작업 기계화 현황에 대하여 조사하였음. 로컬 푸드의 지속 발전을 위한 방안을 제시하면; 첫째, 중 소농을 위한 수확기 개발이 가장 시급한 것으로 조사되었고, 둘째, 농기계가 아니더라도 우선 힘든 일을 해소하면서 편하게 자세를 유지할 수 있는 작업 보조기구 또는 편이장비의 개발 보급이 필요함. 셋째, 농가의 영세성과 지역의 특성을 고려하여 기술센터 농기계임대사업이나 시군 보조사업을 통해서 소형 농기계, 농기구, 보조 및 편이장비 보급이 확대되어야 함.

A Study on the Nonpoint Source Pollution Management Guideline for Golf Course Construction (골프장 개발에 따른 비점오염 관리를 위한 지침마련에 대한 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to establish the management guideline for golf course construction nonpoint source pollution reduction. For this, the characteristics of nonpoint source pollution from golf course construction and current management status were investigated. Investigated results showed that before and after monitoring for golf course construction sites are necessary as well as during the construction. It is important to focus on erosion and sediment control during the construction. To reduce a nonpoint source pollution from golf course construction, it is necessary to analyze the nonpoint source pollution movement through effective monitoring system and make a effective pollution reduction strategy considering construction stages, origin of the pollution and diverse management practices.

Flora and Restoration Plan of Hanon Paddy Fields Made in Maar Crater, Jeju Island, South Korea (제주도 마르형 분화구 내에 형성된 하논의 식물상과 복원 방안)

  • Hanon made in the largest maar crater in Korea, is the only paddy field ecosystem in Jeju Island that has been conducting rice farming, for the past 500 years. Flora surveys were conducted eight times, 2015-2018, to understand floristic characteristics and a restoration plan of the study area. As a result, vascular plants of Hanon paddy fields were listed 225 taxa that consist of 55 families, 151 genera, 194 species, 1 subspecies, 25 varieties, and 4 forms. The taxonomic group including the most species, was Gramineae (36 taxa). The next families were Compositae (29 taxa), Cyperaceae (20), Leguminosae (13), and Polygonaceae (11). Biological type of the Hanon was $Th-R_5-D_4-t$ type. The rare plants revealed 3 taxa; Ottelia alismoides(L.) Pers., Acorus calamus L., Pseudoraphis ukishiba Ohwi. Endemic plant revealed 1 taxon; Saururus chinensis(Lour.) Baill. Forty three taxa were naturalized plants composed of 15 families, 24 genera, 41 species, and 2 varieties. The urbanization index and naturalized index were 13.3% and 16.9%, respectively. The Hanon has high plant diversity, including endemic plant and rare plants, and is the only rice paddy in Jeju Island. So, the Hanon has sufficient values in ecological and socio-cultural aspects, so it should be maintained continuously in the future.

Evaluation of N2O Emissions by Nutrient Source in Soybean and Pepper Fields (콩과 고추재배지에서 양분 공급원별 N2O 배출량 평가)

  • Nitrogen fertilizers, hairy vetch, and slow-release complex fertilizers were applied to the soil during the cultivation of crops. The impact of these factors on $N_2O$ emission was quantitatively assessed and the GHGs reduction effect comprehensively evaluated. Among the three factors, the significant factors affecting $N_2O$ emission were mineral nitrogen>soil moisture>temperature. Yield and fertilizer utilization efficiency were highest in the slow-release complex fertilizer treatment. There was no significant difference in $N_2O$ emissions between the slow-release complex fertilizer treatments and the NPK+hairy vetch treatments. Comprehensive results showed that slow-release complex fertilizers treatment has high yield and fertilizer utilization efficiency but low $N_2O$ emission.

Evaluation of Resistance to Rice Sheath Blight (Rhizoctonia solani Kühn) of Rice Germplasms at Seedling Stage (유묘접종에 의한 벼 유전자원의 벼잎집무늬마름병 저항성 평가)

  • Rice sheath blight (ShB), caused by Rhizoctonia solani K$\ddot{u}$hn, is one of the serious fungal disease resulting in severe yield loss in rice field worldwide. There are limited sources of genetic resistance and no commercial cultivar with high level of ShB resistance is currently available in Korea. In order to seek available resources with high level of resistance to ShB, 40 rice germplasms were used to evaluate disease reactions including ShB, leaf blast and bacterial leaf blight and these germplasms also examined agronomic traits such as days to heading, culm length, panicle length, No. of panicles, No. of spikelets per panicle and so on. There is wide variation in agronomic characters and disease reactions. Rice germplasms also showed considerably different ShB reaction caused by inoculation at seedling stage. Areumbyeo, Gayabyeo, IR579-Es44 and IR64 showed more strong reaction to ShB than the others. Especially, Gayabyeo is considerably available to develop a new variety with resistance to ShB in Korea.

  • 정도 높은 유량자료는 수자원 분야의 연구와 실무에 있어 대단히 중요하다. 이런 유량자료를 연속적으로 측정하는 것은 현실적으로 어려운 문제이므로 하천에서 직접 측정된 수위-유량자료를 통해 수위-유량관계곡선을 작성하고, 이를 이용하여 연속적으로 관측된 수위에 대한 유량을 산출한다. 산정된 유량자료의 신뢰성을 평가하기 위해서 유출평가의 과정을 거치게 되며, 이를 위해 유출률 검토, 상 하류 유량검토, 누가유출량 평가, 첨두홍수량 및 저 평수기 동시유량 검토 등의 다양한 평가를 하게 된다. 정확한 유출평가를 위해서는 대상유역의 수계망도 및 배수계통도를 조사해야 하며, 하천 취수량, 댐 및 하수 방류량 등의 자료를 수집하여 물수지 분석을 실시해야 한다. 하지만 농업 지역의 경우 농업용수 공급을 위해 관개수로가 많이 설치되어 있어 배수계통이 매우 복잡하고, 관개수로를 통해 공급되는 정확한 용수량을 파악하는데 한계가 있어 정확한 유출평가가 어렵다. 국내 유역 중 농업 지역으로 복잡한 배수계통를 가지는 대표적인 유역은 동진강 유역이다. 동진강 유역은 섬진강 유역에 위치한 섬진강 댐에서 발전 및 농업용수 공급을 위해 유역변경식으로 동진강 유역으로 용수가 공급되고 있으며, 방류량은 동진강 본류 및 동진강 도수로, 김제간선, 정읍간선, 기타 간선 공급되는 복잡한 배수계통을 가지고 있다. 그리고 방류량 및 각 간선으로 공급되는 용수량은 인위적인 수문조작에 의해 운영되고 있어 유량자료의 평가를 위한 유출검토가 매우 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 복잡한 배수계통을 갖는 동진강 유역에서 2007년 유량측정을 통해 개발된 수위-유량관계 곡선 및 유량자료의 평가를 위해 유출평가를 실시하였다. 대상지점은 동진강 본류의 옹동과 태인 지점이며, 정확한 유출평가를 위해 수계망도 및 배수계통도를 조사하였고, 댐 방류량 및 각 간선으로 공급되는 용수량을 파악하여 물수지 분석을 하였다. 그 결과 2007년 전 기간 유출률은 옹동 53.4%, 태인 47.2%로 분석되었고, $6{\sim}$9월 주요 홍수기의 유출률이 옹동 60.1%, 태인 64.8%로 두 지점의 유출률 차가 심하지 않았고, 자연하천의 일반적인 유출률과 비슷한 결과를 보였다. 상 하류 유량검토를 통해서는 하류의 태인 지점이 상류의 옹동 지점보다 큰 정상적인 상 하류 관계를 나타내었다. 이러한 결과로서 동진강 유역의 옹동, 태인 지점의 유량자료는 적절하며, 측정된 유량자료를 토대로 개발된 수위-유량관계곡선식도 신뢰성이 높다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
