  • This study purposes to analyse what games are played and what play-songs are sung among Chinese primary and middle school children of immigrants who emigrated from Korea to 延邊 about 50 years ago. Questionnaire survey, asking about the kinds of games, play-materials, the origins of the games, and the contents of play-songs, was conducted on 50 5th-grade-children and 50 middle school students. The results are as follows: The primary school children have enjoyed physical play. While playing, they sang the songs which they learned from their mother, grand parents, siblings, and teachers. The middle school children tend to play alone more than the primary ones, watching videos and listening to music. Especially they enjoy the popular songs of South Korea. This phenomena reflects the cultural change of the communist society which is struggling to transform its system to open market system.

  • This study examined parental perceptions and use of traditional play songs for infants by parent's age and gender. The 464 subjects living in Daejeon City provided data via questionnaires and recorded tapes. Of 13 play songs for infants, parents were really acquainted only with Jjak-jjak-kkung, Do-ri Do-ri, Gon-ji Gon-ji, and Jam-jam. However, most parents thought traditional play songs are important for the education of the whole child. Mothers and parents in their thirties and forties considered traditional play songs to be more important than did fathers and parents in their twenties. Though infants liked traditional play songs, most parents didn't use them with their infants because parents knew few traditional play songs and they had little time to play with their infants. Lack of time was a more serious problem for fathers than for mothers.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the kinds of plays and the meanings of words in play songs among children of Han heritage. A total of three data sets were used. Data for two of the data sets were obtained from only South Korean children in 1990 and 2005, respectively, while the other data set contained responses from South Korean, Chinese Korean, and North Korean children collected in 1999. The three societies of Han heritage differed in the level of economic and industrial development and ideological orientation, and each society tended to socialize and educate their children in different ways. The kind of plays and the lyrics of the play songs were different in each stage by the level of economic and industrial development, and ideological orientation. In each society, a dominant play changed periodically. For instance, physical play decreased while television, video, and internet game plays increased. The increase in internet game play was related to the level of industrial development. Although three groups shared some common play songs prior to 1945, they have developed their own play songs after 1945 according to their respective social ideological characteristics. Notwithstanding these differences in play songs, common themes, materials, rhythms, and the Korean emotionality exist across all groups.

The instrumental and are played in various scenes for the accompaniment of the dance part. The musical structure of the mask play is flexible. This kind of flexibility of scene structure mainly concerned with the way of musical composition. The main structure of the mask play can be classified into two main styles according to the allocation of the vocal music. In first style, the vocal music is evenly dispersed. In second style, the vocal parts are concentrated in the rear section. As I mentioned earlier, no logical association is found in the matter of the scene arrangement. A scene arrangement has a deep connection with the arrangement of the music in each scene. • Jainpalkwangdae(慈仁八廣大) of Kyungsan area in Kyungbuk province was restored through over 50 years gap. This play basically has the structure of conflict - reconcillation, which is differentiated from a masque and a tightrope walking. The characters of this play are a nobleman, Malttuki (a servant), a legal wife and a second wife. Their personality is deviant from a existing Korean masque. This weird and artificial appearance may be a problem in the process of restoration. Otherwise, it might be a very different transmission type of masque. Therefore, we need to investigate why Jainpalkwangdae is different from a traditional masque.
