  • Authigenic minerals found in sandstones and mudrocks of the Lower Hayang Group (Cretaceous) in the central part of the Kyungsang Basin are carbonate minerals (calcite, dolomite), clay minerals (illite, chlorite, C/S, I/S and kaolinite), albite, quartz and hematite. Characteristic diagenetic mineral assemblages are as follows: albite-chlorite (including C/S)-hematite in the Chilgog Formation, albite-illite-calcite in the Silla Conglomerate, illite-chlorite-hematite in the Haman Formation and albite-chlorite-dolomite in the Panyawol Formation, respectively. Among clay minerals reflecting the physical and chemical change of the diagenetic process, illite, the dominant clay mineral, occurs in every formation in the study area. Chlorite occurs mainly in green or gray sandstones and mudrocks, or in sandstones and mudrocks of the Chilogok Formation which contains a high content of volcanic materials. Based on the mineral assemblage, diagenetic minerals are strongly related with source rocks. Judging from the illite crystallinity, diagenesis of sandstones and mudrocks in the study area reached the late diagenetic stage or low grade metamorphisim. The diagenetic process was much influenced by intrusion of the Bulguksa granite, content of organic materials, grain size, and depositional environment rather than burial depth.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the production of C$_2$H$_4$ and CO$_2$, and the change of flesh firmness and peel color in 'Fuji' apples during CA storage. ACC oxidase activity was more inhibited by the low O$_2$ concentration, and the low level of internal C$_2$H$_4$ in apples was maintained under the low O$_2$ conditions during 8 months storage. Especially, the level of internal C$_2$H$_4$ in apples was maintained below 1 ppm during storage under 1% O$_2$+1% CO$_2$ at 0$^{\circ}C$, and not much changed for 7 days in air at 20$^{\circ}C$ after storage. The influence of CO$_2$ on the C$_2$H$_4$ production was dependent on the O$_2$ concentration. Increasing of CO$_2$ concentration with 3% O$_2$ decreased the C$_2$H$_4$ Production during storage, but that with 1% O$_2$increased. Internal C$_2$H$_4$ concentration and the rate of CO$_2$ evolution in apples showed the close correlation. Internal CO$_2$ concentration of apples was positively related to the rate of CO$_2$ evolution and maintained the lower level in 1% O$_2$+1% CO$_2$ than the other conditions during storage but nu different in the increment after storage. The relationship between C$_2$H$_4$ and CO$_2$ production was exhibited in CA and the short-term air stored apples, but not in the long-term air stored apples. Loss of flesh firmness and green color in apples was more less in storage condition retarded effectively the production of C$_2$H$_4$ and CO$_2$.

  • The exposure of Clamydomonas reinhardtii to low temperatures resulted in an accumulation of cellular pyruvate that dissipated when the chilled cells returned to ambient temperature. The dissipation of pyruvate accumulation was accompanied by an increase in the production level of superoxide radicals $(O_2^-)$ in cells. The formation of $O_2^-$ at an excessive level during the post-chilling period was apparently countered by a substantial activation of superoxide dismutase (SOD). All these results are similar to those observed previously in rice seedlings subjected to the cold-treatment, implicating that a common mechanism is probably underlying for the primary processes of chilling injury both in higher plants and in algae. It was also observed that the activation of Mn-containing SOD contributes the major share in the increase of SOD activity of whole algal cells. Because Mn-SOD is present only in mitochondria, the observation corroborates the concept that the $O_2^-$ scavenging enzyme would be induced to cope with the cold treatment-caused adverse situation in mitochondria where the toxic active oxygen is produced at rates far exceeding the normal rate.

  • This study was to identify the material characteristics and provenance of the crucibles, potteries and roof tiles from the Wonsinheungdong site in Daejeon, Korea. Similar mineral composition of each samples showed by microscopic observation and X-ray diffraction analysis. However, wall thickness and mineral characterization of each ceramic artifacts are quite different. The pottery is characterized by thin wall with 0.5 to 0.7 cm and fine grained clay matrix. While the crucible and roof tile has thick wall with 1.3 to 2.5 cm, poorly sorted texture of many quarz, orthoclase and plagioclase whithin ceramic fabric. And large elonagated voids formed by hydrocarbone of straw during the firing and loose matrix obseved in crucible. All ceramic samples and ground soil of the site show similar mineralogical characteristics geochemical behavior and clay-mineralization degree. This indicates making that the soil is probable to be a raw material of all ceramic from the Wonsinheungdong site. Also, firing temperature of most ceramic artifacts are estimated as 850 of all ceramic from the Wonsinheungdong site. Also, firing temperature of most ceramic artifacts are estimated as 850 to $950^{\circ}C$ but hardest pottery fired high temperature between 1,050 to $1,150^{\circ}C$. The vitreous molten materials interpreted in slag included segregation of copper and tin. But it can not exclude the possibility that the glass molten material because observed reddish and greenish vitreous fine structure under microscopic.

  • The morphology and photoluminescence characteristics of green light emitting hexaaluminate phosphor particles prepared by high temperature spray pyrolysis from spray solution with and without ammonium dihydrogen phosphate flux were investigated. The particles prepared from spray solution without flux material had hollow morphology at preparation temperatures between $900^{\circ}C$ and $1,650^{\circ}C$. Ammonium dihydrogen phosphate flux added into spray solution enabled the formation of particles with spherical shape and filled morphology at preparation temperatures between $900^{\circ}C$ and $1,650^{\circ}C$. The hexaaluminate phosphor particles with magnetoplumbite structure were directly prepared by spray pyrolysis from spray solution with ammonium dihydrogen phosphate flux above $1,600^{\circ}C$. Ammonium dihydrogen phosphate flux was effective in improving the photoluminescence intensity of the phosphor particles at low preparation temperatures. The phosphor particles prepared from spray solution with and without flux material by spray pyrolysis under reducing atmosphere at $1,650^{\circ}C$ had comparable photoluminescence intensities with that of the phosphor particles optimized by post-treatment.

  • Concerns on use of excess amount of chemical fertilizier and pesticide in current farming system turns both of the producer and consumer of agricultural products to an organic farming which use a less chemicals and more natural manure. Rice-duck farming system is one of the strategy to meet the purpose and this experiment was carried out to find the effect of the rice-duck farming system on the quality and yields of rice. 20day-old rice seedling were mechanically transplanted in sandy-loam paddy field and 21 day-old ducks were raised from 3 weeks after transplanting with population of 30 heads per 10a. The plots were consists of reduce fertilizer(70%) with and without duck-raising. The conventional fertilizer treatment without duck-raising was used as check. The results obtained are summarized as follows. The weeds population of test plots which were raised with duck for 3 consecutive years was less than that of test plots without duck-raising, though a speciffic population of Echinochola crusgallis were increased. The weed control effect was higer in duck-raising than in check at the maximum tillering stage but, not at later stages of rice plant. It was found that the small animals and insects inhibiting in the rice field were reduced by duck-treatment, however, there were also damages of grass leaf roller at booting stage in the plots of duck-raising. In rice-duck plot, dark green leaf color were found: 41.8 of SPAD value than 38.6 of SPAD in check plot. Higher root activity and surface soil oxidation were also observed in rice-duck plot than check plot. 3% of the increase in yield was observed by duck-treatment. However, the expected increase of the palatability wsa not observed. This may be due to the unfavorable weather conditions during the rice growing in this expriment.

  • Prunus mume is said to aid in the recovery of fatigue and improvement of liver and stomach functions. To obtain the best benefits of the whole fruit, fresh green Prunus mume was de-seeded and the fruit pulp was vacuum dried. The vacuum-dried pulp was powdered and sieved through a 250 ${\mu}m$ sieve. Then the sieved green Prunus mume powder (GPP) was granulated with water (GPPGW) and with Prunus mume extract (GPPGE) with a fluid bed coater. The physicochemical and sensory properties of GPP, GPPGW, and GPPGE were then evaluated. As a result, the water dispersibility (dispersible time) of GPP, GPPGW, and GPPGE was 21.19 sec, 6.46 sec, and 4.85 sec, respectively. The powder fluency (angle of repose) of GPP, GPPGW, and GPPGE was $11.25^{\circ}$, $8.65^{\circ}$, and $9.52^{\circ}$, respectively. The overall consumer acceptance of GPP, GPPGW, and GPPGE was 3.50, 4.62 and 5.00, respectively. Inconclusion, Prunus mume can be used as granulated whole fruit pulp with good powder fluency and dispersibility.

  • Calc-silicate rock sheet occurs within the Precambrian metasedimentary rocks in Bonghwa area, Kyungsangbuk-do, Korea. The calc-silicate rock runs parallel to bedding plane with $14{\sim}18$ meters in width. Calcite, dolomite, serpentine and tremolite are occurred as major minerals and talc is occurred as a miner mineral. Serpentine mainly occurs in the upper part and tremolite occurs in lower part of calc-silicate rock sheet. Colors of calc-silicate rock change to deeper green with increasing amounts of serpentine mineral. XRD, FT-IR analyses indicates that serpentine mineral is antigorite. Platy structure of antigorite is well observed by SEM analysis. EPMA data indicates that chemical composition of antigorite is very close to ideal ($SiO_2$: 44.3 wt% and MgO: 40.8 wt%). The chemical formula of antigorite is calculated as $Mg_{2.82}Al_{0.04}Fe^{3+}_{0.04}Si_{2.05}O_5(OH)_4$. From careful study by comparing mineralogical analysis data and occurrence, calc-silicate rock sheet was formed by metamorphism of calcareous sedimentary rocks having different mineralogical and chemical compositions. It is considered that the host rock of serpentine enriched upper part was more Mg-rich rocks than the host rocks of tremolite enriched lower part.

  • The sericite ore deposits formed in the Precambrian granitic rock at the Bonghwa area, Kyungsangbuk-do, South Korea. The geochemical and mineralogical characteristics of sericite occurred in Daehyun and Seonghwang mine were analyzed using petrographic microscope, XRD, EPMA, XRF and ICP. An alteration mechanism was also studied. Sericitization occurred within the granitic rock by hydrothermal alteration. From the careful study on the occurrence and mineral assemblage, four alteration zone were clearly identified. These zones reflect progressive hydrothermal alteration process. All sericites belong to $2M_1$ polytype and their mineralogical and geochemical properties are close to illite. The sericite ores show various colors, but the characteristics of major element compositions and crystal structures are not different. The trace element analysis, however, indicates that the difference in color attribute to the abundance of Cr and Ti: bluish green colored sericite are enriched in Cr and blackish green colored sericite enriched in Ti. The formation of sericite ore deposit in the granitic rocks are closely relate to fracture system such as fault and joint. It is considered that the sericite ore deposits in this area were formed by very simple hydrothermal alteration occurred along the fracture zones in granitic rocks with absence of other hydrothermally altered minerals such as kaolin and pyrophyllite.

  • When thinking about the essence of color, green is the image that is settled on the plant itself, and it is also the color shining by the sun. Physics tries to explain green of plants in the correlation of sun and moon, and the history of art contemplates how it is expressed on the canvas. The film attempts to represent a realistic green using camera or computer specific to the medium. Many color theorists who explore the essence of color do not trust the mechanical and reductive scientific colorism that began in Newton and seek a completely different way of exploring in psychology and aesthetics. Like Goethe, who opposed Newton, they do not distinguish the human as subject and the color as object, but focus on the internal grounds of the relationship between subject and color. The representation of color in film is a combination of physics and art. Film color can be expanded to the spiritual dimension beyond the previous emotional and aesthetic, even beyond the physical and mental domains.
