Comparing Performances of Factors for Reducing Energy at Deteriorated Elementary School Buildings (노후 초등학교 건물에너지 절감을 위한 요소기술의 성능 비교)

  • Faced with the international issue of environmental problems from global warming and energy consumption, the Korean Government has made many efforts on reducing energy and $CO_2$ emission under the motto of "Low-Carbon Green Growth". In order to reduce energy in the building sector, severe design standards and regulations on saving energy in new buildings have been established. Now, it is necessary to focus on deteriorated buildings where applications of energy saving designs and techniques have been insufficient, for maximizing energy saving in the building sector. Specially, it is very important to reduce energy through the remodeling process at deteriorated school buildings which were built over 20 years ago and sharply changed into the excessive energy consumption structure from new educational curricula. Thus, this paper examined the effects of potential factors to reduce energy at deteriorated elementary school buildings using the energy simulation on the Visual DOE 4.0 program. Among applied factors of insulations, southern louver, window's SHGC, indoor setup temperature, and system efficiency, all factors except window's SHGC turned out contribute to reduce energy at the deteriorated elementary school buildings, compared with the baseline energy performance.

An educational needs analysis of precautions against of safety accidents for school foodservice employees in the Jeonbuk area using Borich priority formula and the Locus for Focus Model (Borich 요구도와 The Locus for Focus Model을 이용한 전북지역 학교급식 조리종사자의 안전사고 예방관리를 위한 교육요구도 우선순위 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to analyze the priorities for educational content regarding precautions to be taken to prevent safety accidents for employees in school foodservice using the Borich priority formula and the Locus for Focus model. Methods: A survey was conducted in February 2019 on 194 employees in elementary school and 122 employees in middle- and high school foodservice in the Jeonbuk area. Demographic characteristics, status of safety accidents, safety education, and their importance and performance levels were assessed using a self-administered questionnaire. The priorities for the educational content on precautions to prevent safety accidents were based on a 3-step analysis method, including the paired sample t-test, Borich priority formula, and the Locus for Focus Model. Results: The average perceived importance of the precautions to be taken against safety accidents of employees in elementary-, middle-, and high schools was higher compared to the average performance of the employees (p < 0.001). The top priority for elementary school employees was caution against falls during the cleaning of the gas hood and the trench in the kitchen. In addition, 'awareness of chemical signs' was added as one of the top priorities of middle- and high school employees. The second highest priority items were 'do stretching', 'safely adjusting workbench height', 'keeping the right attitude', 'using assistive devices when moving heavy things', and 'checking the material safety data sheet', which were the same for all elementary, middle- and high school employees. Conclusion: Thus, to improve the educational preparedness of employees in the area of safety precautions, eight safety/accident prevention items should be included in the safety education program.

  • This study investigated and analyzed the rise and fall trend of enrolled students during the recent 30 years with the subject of 607 elementary schools in 11 Education Support Centers (25 Gu-districts) in Seoul to provide the basic data related to establishing the school accommodation plan of the Seoul Education Office. In particular, the study focuses on the 53 small schools in Seoul and examines whether a correlation exists between the 8 factors of the school accommodation plan and the increasing and decreasing of enrolled student numbers. First, 'school establishment policy' should not be a short-term therapy but a long-term and predictable sustainable policy. Second, among the eight factors, there seems to be a very high correlation between the 'aged low-rise house districts' and 'spatially isolated areas'. Third, 'close-packed apartment complexes' and 'rental apartment complexes' are also highly correlated. Fourth, the planning factors such as 'joint school districts, the reconstruction of apartment complexes and the connection to commercial districts' seem to be correlated to some degree. Therefore, further studies are needed to overcome these problems.

  • To obtain basic data used for establishing the criteria of deterioration in renovation of educational facilities, current problems of material and method and quality improvements were examined. In this study, the elementary schools built 20 and 70 years ago were unintentionally chosen and studied. With the data of the repair of old educational facilities, the results are as follows. The First problem is that the construction priority which was based on non-experts decision. The Second problem is that maintenance method which changes the materials after their life was ended. So, refer to remodeling of educational facilities, the selections of proper materials and methods to use of each function were main object in this study.

  • Recently, as interest in programming and artificial intelligence has increased, software education has been compulsory from elementary school. In order to achieve this goal of programming education, it is necessary to basically establish a lab environment suitable for students and teachers. However, there is a problem with performance problems caused by old computers in the lab environment of the school, and there is a problem that students must purchase and use the existing online platform while implementing an algorithm contest program in which students access and evaluate their problem-solving ability at the same time. Therefore, in this paper, to solve this problem, we propose a web-based online practice environment and algorithm contest scoring system using React and Spring boot. Through this, it is believed that even in a computer with low specifications, programming can be studied using only a web browser.

  • Recently, interest in programming and artificial intelligence is continuously increasing, and software education is being implemented as a mandatory education from elementary school. For efficient programming education, it is basically necessary to build a lab environment suitable for students and teachers, but there are performance problems due to the inadequacy of old computers and network equipment. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a web page-based online practice environment and algorithm competition scoring system using React and Spring boot to solve the problem of the programming practice environment. Through this, it is thought that programming learning can be carried out using only a web browser even on low-spec computers. In addition, since various programming languages can be learned irrespective of the language to be learned, it is considered that the time cost for establishing a practice environment can be reduced.
