The Study of Aerodynamic Characteristics of Jet-Vane Affected by the Shroud (Shroud의 영향에 따른 제트 베인의 공기역학적 특성 연구)

  • Thrust vector control system is a control device which is mounted on the exit of the nozzle to generate pitch, yaw and roll directional force by deflecting flow direction of the supersonic jet from the nozzle. Thermal and aerodynamic loads are acting on the surface of jet vane when it is exposed to the jet flow. Axial thrust loss and side thrust loss are affected by shock patterns and interactions between jet-vanes which varies with jet-vane geometry and turning angle. In this research, the performance estimation using the numerical simulation analysis of the nozzle is given and the investigation of the flow visualization and aerodynamic performance with the enforced power to the vane is taken.

  • In this study, we analysed the influence of the performance and inflow flow of a radial inflow turbine with the variation of vane nozzle exit angles for a 100kW class turbine applicable in the waste heat recovery system. For this, three-dimensional CFD analysis was performed using commercial code called ANSYS Fluent 12.1. As the vane nozzle exit angle was more increased the reattachment region near blades of the vane nozzle got smaller, and also the Mach number at vane nozzle exit was observed to be 1 due to the effect of the cross section reduction. Through this study, we expect that the analysed results will be used as the design material for the composition of the turbine optimal design parameters corresponding to the target output power.

A Study of Operating Forces on a Partially Admitted Turbine Blade (부분분사에 의한 터빈익형에서의 작동력 변화에 관한 연구)

  • An experimental study has been conducted to analyze the operating forces on a partially admitted turbine blade using a linear cascade apparatus. Axial-type blades were used and the blade chord was 200mm. The rectangular nozzle was applied and its size was $200mm{\times}200mm$. The experiment was done at $3{\times}10^5$ of Reynolds number based on the chord. The rotational force and axial force on the blade were measured at steady state by moving the blade to the rotational direction. The operating forces were measured at three different nozzle install angles of $58^{\circ}$, $65^{\circ}$ and $72^{\circ}$ for off-design performance test. In addition, three different solidities of 1.25, 1.38 and 1.67 were applied. From the results, the maximum rotational force was increased when the solidity was decreased and the nozzle install angle was decreased. The axial force was increased by decreasing the nozzle install angle. The reverse axial force was obtained in the partially admitted region when the nozzle install angle was increased to $72^{\circ}$.

  • 분무량(噴霧量) 및 유량계수(流量係數)에 관(關)한 많은 연구(硏究)가 실험결과자료(實驗結果資料)에 기초하여 수행(遂行)되어졌다. 그러나 공시체(供試體)의 노즐의 특성(特性)에 따라서 유선(流線)의 특성(特性)이 다르므로 많은 실험결과(實驗結果) 및 해석(解析)이 서로 상치되는 점이 많다. 본(本) 연구(硏究)에서는 이론분석결과(理論分析結果)가 실험결과(實驗結果)와 다소 다르더라도 노즐 설계(設計)의 실제응용면(實際應用面)에서 필요(必要)한 노즐구조(構造)의 기본기능(基本機能)을 이론적(理論的)으로 분석(分析), 이해(理解)시키고저 한다. 이론분석(理論分析)의 결과(結果)는 다음과 같다. 공동면적(空洞面積)은 분구경(噴口徑), 와실경(渦室徑), 중자도구경(中子導溝徑) 및 중자도구각(中子導溝角)에 관계되고 있으며, 특히 중자도구각(中子導溝角)이 공동현상(空洞現象)에 큰 영향을 미친다. $$r_r{^6}-3r_o{^2}r_r{^4}+[3r_o{^4}+\frac{r_c{^4}r_o{^2}}{(r_c-r_g)^2\;tan^2{\theta}}]r_r{^2}-r_o{^6}=0$$ 반경방향(半徑方向) 힘의 요소(要素)로 인(因)한 유량계수(流量係數)($C_t$)는 산출식(算出式)은 아래와 같다. $$C_t=[1-(\frac{r_r}{r_o})^2]^{3/2}$$ 분무각(噴霧角)(${\alpha}$)은 공동반경(空洞半徑) 및 분구반경(噴口半徑)에 의(依)하여 변화(變化)된다. $${\alpha}=2\;tan^{-1}\(\frac{r^r}{\sqrt{r_o{^2}-r_r{^2}}}\)$$분무각(噴霧角)은 특히 와실유선각(渦室流線角)의 영향을 많이 받음을 시사하고 있다.

  • Variable nozzles are used to enhance the effectiveness of aircraft engines at various altitudes. Unsynchronized movements of variable nozzle flaps affect the direction of thrust in case the variable nozzle consists of many flaps. A synchronization test system was developed to verify the synchronization characteristics of variable nozzle mechanism including flaps. The test system has a capability to simulate combustion pressure in variable nozzle space. The test system was used to qualify the synchronization characteristics of a variable nozzle flaps affected by magnitude and uniformity of simulated combustion pressure, and time delay of each nozzle actuators.

  • An investigation of the thrust vectoring nozzle which can be applied to the supersonic variable exhaust system was performed. The maximum mach number of the model aircraft is 1.8 and mission radius is about 400Nm. The cycle analysis are performed at each operating regime of the aircraft and the specifications of the thrust vectoring nozzle were developed. Based upon the requirement of the thrust vectoring nozzle, two dimensional thrust vectoring nozzle were designed and flow analysis was conducted by deflection of the pitch and yaw angle.

  • An experimental study was carried out to investigate the injection characteristics of non-circular effervescent type twin-fluid nozzles. For this purpose, two types of non-circular nozzles (E1, E2) and one kind of circular nozzle (C) were used. At this time, the Aerorator mounted on the nozzle used three different diameters to match the aspect ratio with the nozzle exit area. Therefore, experiments were performed according to three aspect ratios for each nozzle, and a total experiments were conducted. Experiments were carried out by controlling the amount of air flowing after fixing the flow rate of the liquid, and the nozzle internal pressure and SMD were measured, and the jet image was taken from the nozzle. The discharge coefficients of the three kinds of nozzles were compared with the conventional equation and the Jedelsky's equation, and the Jedelsky's equation was found to be about 4 times larger. The droplet size (SMD) injected from the nozzle was found to be smaller in the non-circular shape than in the circular shape, which is expected to be caused by the difference of the discharge coefficient values.

  • An experimental study to improve the impingement characteristics of the assist gas in laser cutting was carried out. For various assist-gas pressures, and locations and installation angles of the nozzle, the characteristics of the impingement of the jet from a supersonic rectangular nozzle were compared to those previously observed for typical circular nozzles. Schlieren flow visualizations and Pitot pressure measurements downstream of the kerf surface were utilized for this purpose. The present rectangular supersonic nozzle decreased the strength of the Mach disc occurring at the corner of the kerf surface, and thus, could weaken the separation of the assist gas on the kerf surface and increase the Pitot pressures downstream compared to conventional circular nozzles.

  • A numerical analysis has been conducted to determine the pitch thrust vectoring characteristics of a two-dimensional convergent divergent exhaust nozzle for supersonic aircraft application. The numerical analysis was done by using Fluent and verified by the experimental test results. Analysis was performed with pitch angle of $0^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$ each at the ambient temperature condition. To see the effect of a ratio of pitch flap length and pitch flap height, the ratio was varied from 0.5 to 2.5. The numerical analysis shows that pitch thrust is changed greatly with pitch flap length. The big difference of the pitch thrust with pitch flap length is due to the shock interactions in the nozzle.

Thrust Loss of Propulsion System with Scarfed Nozzle (절삭 노즐 적용 추진기관의 추력 손실)

  • The nozzle exit shape is scarfed according to the external shape of missile when the nozzle axis should be canted from missile axis due to missile system application. There is inevitable thrust loss for the scarfed nozzle comparing to non-scarfed nozzle. The numerical analysis is necessary to calculate the thrust loss in design process, and ground tests of rocket motor were performed to verify the calculation results. From the comparison of non-scarfed nozzle and scarfed nozzle experiment results, the thrust loss from calculation was about 16.6% and that from experiments was about 15.0%.
